The artifact is a small mod project I've been working with. It's almost done now, just some tweaking and voice acting left.

I like the textures in the first screenshots! ;)

The mind control thing reminds me of the Spirit walk in Prey. They had some basic but interesting puzzles with that.

Yes.

You'll be able to use buttons and consoles you weren't able to use before, yes.
Can you mind control to someonewhere when your already mind controlling someone?
Nope, there is a cooldown for balance.

please say you can take over an apache, that'd rock harder than Nihlanth.

A tentacle, barnacle, or even a gargantua would be way too damn fun for your own good.

Another question, the enemies are friendly until provoked when you mind control, right? so you can sneak through.

Also, what if you kill a person you are supposed to control to get something, are you stuck or do you MC a headcrab and crawl through the vents.

so many possibilities, i would develop this in completely so you can MC anything. even snarks.

I could see some interesting puzzles. You could control a headcrab through vents or toxic areas and open up the way for Gordon, etc. There was this gamecube game called geist, it had loads of these puzzles but it had low fps :/

You'll be able to control some aliens, like the zombie and the snark.

The zombie is very tough, and the snark is fast and can run trough vents and stuff, but it will explode after 20 seconds.

Very clever that you did this...Just a crit but is it possible to make switching minds use more screen effects and so on to make it even more impressive? It just seems switching in that trailer felt a little plain aesthetically but none-the-less great work.

Actually, Rimrook's clever zoom effect he used in 6D could easily be modified to make a cool MC effect, unless he would strike me down if I use it?

And yes, you throw snarks and MC them ;)

Make a tutorial out of it and let us play with possibilities! Or you can just release the source.
Maybe this is worth a compo: Design a map and make as much use of this new feature as you can.

Yeah you can use the zoomy warp effect all you want. its just messing with the FOV and flipping through a series of cvar values for it. but be sure to keep a fade of some sort to blend the transition between leaving gordon and arriving in the target. Also, you might not want to warp the screen as much as I do for 6D, weapon models will look floaty and such.

I love the way you see Gordon's glasses, as you MC back.
The decals pwn, although I think, that the zombie movement speed should be a wee bit slower.

I thought you would warp it more. either way, i found a way around the crapped up weapons when you increase the FOV ammount. There is a command draw_viewmodels 0 which will turn off the weapon model, then switch it to 1 (on) after the effect and it looks fine, if you realy want to, play the draw animation after it.

Ok well That was impossibly hard but i managed to get through it. I like the concept but there are a few bugs i picked up on.

-When i quick loaded, collected the mind control unit, and went to MC Barney, it said "Mind control already used" or something to the same extent.
-The other Barney blocks your path into the caged area while dying. I had to crouch-jump just to get into that area. You have to pull this stunt off flawlessly in-order to not get pwnd by the steam. It needs more room for error imo.
-No MC through glass?

Other than that, the MC is great, damage decals are phenomenal and i love the scientist models.
