Inspired by shoutbox discussion, this thread is for your favourite alcoholic beverages.

I've noticed a few "I am drunk for the first time!" utterances, so us more experienced drinkers should post what's what here.

Most of you know I'm an avid scotch drinker.
For a cheap, but quality drink - Try a glass of Bell's or Whyte & Mackay.

As for cocktails, here's a few favourites of mine:

Chambulls:
Fine vodka with red bull and champagne as the mixer. Super sweet, but quite expensive. (~?9 for a pitcher)

King of Leon:
Smirnoff, Cuervo tequila & Red bull as the mixer. On fucking fire, but a really smooth after taste.

And some real advice.
Avoid the following if offered:

J?gerbull:
The most overrated Shottail ever. Jager and red bull. Still tastes like cough medicine and gives you the worst hangovers ever.

B52:
Tia Maria, Cointreau and Baileys. Painful.

Ah, here it is. As I was saying, I've mostly been having Jack Daniels and Coke, because straight, it tastes like crap. I have been told that it is much better with ice though, although I haven't been able to check. My place's freezer is too small to fit an ice tray in. Before I go to the bother of taking a cup of ice from the drinks machine in Subway, can you tell me if this is true?

Yes. Whiskey is always better on the rocks.
But JD is decidedly average anyway, so.

By the way, if you invent your own cocktail, you are more than entitled to name it.

Here's
Archie's Redhead in a Glass:
Sloe Gin with Irn Bru 32 as the mixer. Add 1 teaspoon of sugar and stir (don't shake) well. Optionally spirit the sugar and light it on fire (Absinthe style) to impress your mates.

I was going to get a bottle of Captain Morgan's on Tuesday, but the bottle of JD's was just over half the price, so I got it and some cans of Carlsberg. I think I'll either get rum next time or some other whiskey.

[Edit] I might try that actually. Sounds nice.

99% of the time I prefer to have my personal variation on a gimlet. I've dubbed it a "Goolsby":
-2 ounces chilled vodka (I use Smirnoff to keep it cheap and relatively smooth)
-2 ounces Sprite/
-1 ounce Rose's lime juice
-Mix and serve on ice
It's smooth, tasty, and gives a nice warm feeling. Not a rough drink, though.
I'm sure I'm not the first person to do it, but I call it mine anyway. People always ask me what it is when they see me with one, which makes me feel fancy :3
When I turn 21 next April I'm going to get my parents to try one.

On the off change that I'm not drinking a Goolsby, I'll probably be drinking a plain ol' rum and Coke, preferably with Captain Morgans or Bicardi 151 for a warmer kick.
Jack and Coke is all right, but I strongly dislike the wood-ish taste of Jack. On the rocks is better, but I've noticed that if you let the ice melt

Straight, I prefer Grey Goose shots by a mile.

Sorry to hear that you hate Jagerbombs. I actually think they're awesome, even if they're the quintessential guido drink.

I hate beer in all forms, and have tried plenty of different kinds to assume that it's simply that fundamental beer taste that I hate.

And I get the feeling that these expensive drinks aren't going to mix well with a teacher's payroll.

Goolsby sounds nice. I've written it down. Probably try it tomorrow night depending on who i can find to go to the pub with.

Dunno what it is about Jager... it's just so.. syrupy, and all i can think about when i drink it is that old cough medicine everyone's had to take at least once in their life - that one that makes your face go :nervous:

As for beer; gimme Tiger, Budweiser or Lucky (lager) any day

I hate beer as well. I got mine because I owed my friend a can. And then on Tuesday night I was drunk eenough to not notice the taste.
I also realised yesterday that it's about half the price of Coke. A 500ml bottle of Coke costs 1.40euro, but four 500ml cans of beer cost around 2.50euro.

If you do, be sure to make sure it's Rose's lime juice that goes into it. Regular lime juice makes it taste like shit. Have to make sure it's done right :)

I like beer. Anything darker than my skin, and anything that comes in a brown bottle - generally.
I like drinking beer because i like the taste. Full bodied, hoppy, dark beers.
Bud light and Busch and all those other cheapos are party and pong beer only.

Oh and captain morgans original spiced and Sprite (lemon lime soda) or ginger ale, tastes like cream soda = win

You didn't finish that sentence.

Shame I can't drink legally yet.

1/2 Whiskey & 1/2 Perrier, preferably on the rocks.

As for cocktails, the original or Hemmingway's Daiquiri. That's rum, lime juice or 1/3 lime & 2/3 grapefruit juice, and sugar, grenadine or something else to sweeten it (fairly cheap and easy to get)
Can't remember the exact rum dosage, but a ~1/3-1/4 of the glass should provide a nice sweet drink with a kick.

Basically, rum mixed with any kind of citrus-based juice, etc. is awesome. The two were made for each other.

As for beer, anything that's got at least some decent aftertaste in it (i.e unlike the majority of beers UK has to offer)

Huntey, judging from the fact that you have a pinky ring, I'd assume you were more of an appletini guy :P

I tried some strange drink, it was absinth mixed with something. I don't remember much after that so I assume it was potent. Absinth is my favorite alcoholic beverage by the way, 80% all the way!

As for beer, Guinness is my fave, but most beers work unless they are really watery.

Vodka, straight

kthnxbai

Actually no, I just remembered what happened. I was fucked.

I'm more of an ale drinker. Fursty Ferret, Banana Bread, Old Speckled Hen.

Also tried a christmas special brewed in my local area but it tasted like a damp facecloth.

Whoops, meant to delete that whole sentence.
Originally it said "On the rocks is better, but I've noticed that if you let the ice melt, the watered down drink is god awful."

I usually drink Vodka, I drank a huge glass of Vodka and orange about 1/4 vodka and 3/4 orange juice. I used about $5 worth of Vodka in that one drink! Haha, Otherwise I'll drink Johnny Walker or Jack Daniels with coke. I avoid the cans of Johnny Walker though. They are shit.

I must try the Chambulls, Goolsby, and the Captain Morgans with Sprite. They all sound tasty except the last one, which I'm just curious about.
