zeeba-G that's going to be quite a complicated map, I think it will look great architecture wise, but will the gameplay be the same? Also ty zeeba and doodle.

...and disco stu, the owner of those clothes doesn't seem to care that it's raining :D, he would rather hide in his house to save himself from being shot by ct's / t's.

My layout is finally coming together, though I'm trying to keep everything modular for easy changes.

Also, I made myself swear not to make the map huge, and it is already fucking enormous. I'm starting to get some weird hammer glitches from having too much shit, even with massive visgroiping, lol :P

That's good. Yea cs maps that are too big just tend to have really long rounds and long dead waiting times. Though maps that are too small and simple don't provide enough routes to sneak and allude.

To keep defuse maps balanced seems easy. Give ct a little extra strength and shorter distance to bomb sites. Give terrorists multiple routes.

Gorgeous blitz, WIN! Although, i thought i herd that transparent textures are expensive to render in HL2 fsr, and you are better off using models? I could have herd wrongly!

If nothing else you could definitley propper those bad boys for EVEN MORE win. :P

ya i could be wrong tho, so double-check that. If it were goldsource i would say make them func_illusionary, but there is no such entity in source. (DO NOT use the legacy func_illusionary, NOR the func_brush set to never solid, which will end up causing more problems and poorer peformance than if you just left them func_details)

Yeah, func_illusionary is confusing. The wiki says that it is obsolete, and only in the SDK for compatability with goldsrc. However if you open up an official valve map like cs_militia in the sdk, you see that they use func_illusionarys to make some of the tree lines! Meanwhile other tree lines in the same map use func_detail! Very confusing. I just won't touch it. :lol:

Oh god that. I liked torn, but the scale made moving from one area to the next feel slower. The entire map fealt tedious, like it was coated in molasses or something.

I'm actually psyched to see someone doing torn.

Well, the theme is from de_survivor. Alpine. Snow, ice, pine trees, you get the idea. Maybe if I can find a crashed plane model I'll throw one in there to really seal the deal. I don't know if I want to give away everything yet, but the layout is a remix of another map which never got extremely popular either.

displacements are always hollow, CT. It'd be simple enough making a brushwork interior of the displacement fuselage. The difficulty would be windows & doors.

Yeah you're right Arch, there would be no reason to make the inside out of displacemts, since could easily be achieved with brushwork.

I really want to explore displacements more, but they are so scarry to me fsr! =/

Peformance and lighting-wise, how will it compare to using a model?

I hated 747 so much, and so did many other people. I think the only way to make that map good, is base it inside the plane only, and then make ct's start on one side, t's on the other, and give them like three separate areas where they will meet; like the left and right sides of passenger deck in middle of plane, and the stewards/staff deck below the passenger deck. The plane would have to be a really big.

That's a really good idea skals, and i agree, 747 was one of the worst cs maps of all time, but some people liked it fsr..

I'm still playing around with different ideas for gametypes, but i'm really gonna try hard to avoid making a hostage rescue map out of it. i DO have some ideas to make it work though.

I'm still deciding wether to go for a DE map instead of a CS map, but in my opinion, the plane was the worst part of the map. I don't think I'm going to allow entry into the plane, just around it. Because the actual airport is so extensive and the plane is made of displacements, it would just kill my map to make it hollow.

The plane is a terrible feature in the map because it was too cramped and too many holes. The CTs didn't stand a chance inside the plane because there were almost unlimited places for the T to camp, which is always what everyone would do.

So yeah, it's going to be more like cs_airport_with747feature.

Just happen to be checking out Source mapping. I've had to kill the Hammer process so much in the last 5 minutes that I'm likely going to stay away from it. Nearly anything I try to makes Hammer freeze. Also placing a "gman overwatch" made it crash straight up.

I'm sticking to GS.

It's a mess at the moment. It really is.

Valve have all but given up on their SDK tools. They crash for me constantly, for no good reason. It's a miracle when vrad actually makes it through it's process.

And to think I had such high expectations. I managed to make a test map without it crashing. Experimented a bit with the new entities: Placed a TV and Alyx in front of a camera. But so far it doesn't display, I only see a black screen :(

Oh well. I better get back to the compo map.

Oh, well there you have it. Goldsource > Source. I've had 0 crashes over the past year.

Hotdog, if you make a hostage map don't put them super far away from base like in italy. Hostages also seem silly in assault because they are too hard to rescue.

The bomb is nice because it helps make for faster rounds and less wait time.
