I suggest the admins should move old and closed threads to a 6th board.
This should clean things up a bit

I don't think it's an issue. This way you can look up older information within their respective forums rather than lumping all of them into one great clusterfuck.

Well you can group them up like this:
Closed/Old threads

• HL Engine discussion
• Source Engine discussion
• Maps and Mods
• Site Comments and Suggestions
• General discussion

That way you can avoid that "great clusterfuck"

Also, i agree that there shouldn't be more new boards. It would be hard to find what you need if everything from all 5 boards is in it.

It isn't better now.

I don't see why it's necessary. We have active forums listed on the homepage now and Penguin fixed it up so it shows the five most active threads, and we're not that big a site where we have dozens of active forums.

Also, it takes 3 months for a topic to close itself, so the new threads list will still be long.
