This has probably been proposed in the past, or perhaps not, but I want to attract your attention to this issue.
Some people simply create an account on this site to post their map, and that is all. They do not participate in the community, they use this site as a hosting place for their maps. There are other places for this(gamebanana and sites like that), I think we shouldn't allow this on our community.

I think we should impose a minimum of forum posts, bellow which one cannot post maps or require an admin to verify the map. We are a different community and we need to ensure quality, not quantity.

I agree with this. But people should be able to publish a single problem map. After this is what you said.

I don't understand your point at all.

What's wrong with sharing your work on as many sites as you can? We're one of the few places where you can get full-on professional feedback, as well as extensive in-depth reviews if you win map of the month. Why should you be forced to take part in the forum discussion if you're just here to share your work?

How can an influx of maps in the MV possibly be hurting this community?

Yeah, I agree with Daub.

Very few other sites impose such a restriction and you'll find alot of people do it on alot of sites. They may be extremely active on one or two sites, but post their work in as many places as they can. In my opinion, that's good marketing.

I don't see the issue here either. The map vault and forum are just 2 separate elements of the site. People have the right to chose the one or the other or both if they wish.

Imagine if imgur wouldn't let you post an image without rating or commenting on 10 others first. You'd just get a fuck ton of spam posts.

Yeah, all of the above, basically. I don't like the idea of forcing people to contribute to the community if they don't want to, and hell, uploading maps IS contributing to the community anyway! It's the same reason I'll never force people to log in to download stuff...don't you just hate websites that do that? :|

agree with daub, the more activity and influx of maps the better. Now, that is not to say i wouldn't structure the mapvault differently if i had my way... ;)

speaking of, I wonder what should be done about 'empty' map ID's in the vault. Like map #1, #4, etc. etc.

They should be filled in with high quality maps specially chosen by the moderators to gain that specific ID. Or, have the top 10 rated maps be 1-10, and have the rest come in the order they were made.

In all seriousness though, they should either remain blank, or be filled in with whatever map gets uploaded when they're available. I'd want to shift everything over, but that would probably break a lot of links on other sites to TWHL maps.

Filling in deleted IDs is never good practice and can lead to weird linkage, like JeffMOD said.
Why is that even an issue though, are there actually a lot members who browse the vault by manually going through each ID? Why not use the actual vault page? It's not hiding anything. ;)

The only reason I've ever done that is for the same reason as the journals. Pointless fun someone might find by doing the same thing =P
