EDIT: Wait, that was the joke I made about Zeeba's new map, which he is making. Nevermind.

In other news, my map should be finished... tomorrow! Just gotta spread some items around the place, and then I can hurl it at Archie for an active playtest. Not that I intend to change much. I just want to see it in action.

During the week I can test play around 6-10 pm central.

Yea Jessie, when we were brainstorming names for it.

3D modeling is fun but every time I get to texturing and importing I usually don't follow through. I thought of a cool idea for the claw but it would have to be animated. I doubt i'll find the time and energy to do it but i'll try. Was going to be pulley and chain driven but now going to make it pneumatic.

Make sure all your non-visblocking brushwork are func_detail, and of course it assumes you're using the latest VHLT. Also, use the -chart compile parameter if you aren't already, to help you flag areas that could use more optimization, i.e., your compile shouldn't be taking long!

I can't unhappy - :( Or, rather, I already did as much as possible. I feel it may just be the nature of the map and how it's constructed.

PLEASE DO NOT ENCOURAGE MAPPERS TO MAKE README.TXT FILES!!!

As a person who develops a platfom-like mod, and have reviewed literally more than 4000 maps I should say: when extracting all of those crappy zips renaming every f****ng readme.txt so they won't be overwritten and so I know which map is belongs to is a royal pain in the arse(tm)!!

Best is probably to name the readme file mapname_readme.txt. And if you want to know which map belongs to who then you'll need a readme file anyway!

Well, as expirience tells, the best is actually maps/mapname.txt - game can read and display it (usually, MOTD), there are no naming conflicts, automatic tools can find it, users can open it. Everyone is happy. smile - :)

maps/mapname.txt is the standard, in spectate mode it can be read then, in counter-strike it can also be read and its good to include it in .res

Maybe doing a second map, not sure yet. If so it will be a xen island from hl1 sp. Just a quick testing of how to use the xen textures.

Nice, funny that was my third choice, but was making the whole island surfable for cs 1.6. I gave up because in order to make it all surf ledges was making it look horrible.

I actually have a few different aborted attempts at a Lambda Core DM remake lying around... dunno if I'd ever bother finishing one of them for this compo though.

...could also just be a lazy bastard and submit a map I threw together on a whim two months ago...

I got a ton of work to do on my entry; lots of mapping but more "finding out how to do new stuff" than anything.

-Finish models
-Texture models
-Animate models
-Map two areas and connectors
-Redo most textures
-Convert sound files

@Urby, you're entering? I must have missed that, awesome! Can't wait to see what you got!

So, my first model was too many vertices and now my blender export isn't working so that I can break the model into parts. Guess that's what happens when you export a NURBS model as a triangulated .OBJ. Ugh, hopefully I can figure it out.

And, hopefully I can get my entry done. I've just been hung up on getting the models in game for the past few work sessions i've had available.

My re-imagining of half life was going to have to do with using animated models and invisible brush based entities to interact with the player in the level.

Since the program I use to 3D model exports with such high polygon count even at lowest settings I think it's time I give a new engine a look at. It just doesn't seem worth the effort to manually simplify my models to make them look like a dented up garbage can.

Maybe, just maybe i'll bite the bullet and use brush work to achieve my idea but i'm most likely throwing in the towel for the final time.

Good luck to you guys and can't wait to see the final turn out.

Well, there's mine done. Not expecting any real awards or anything and tbh could care less about the competition itself, since other far more talented people have already entered... I really just made this because I liked the idea.

I'm not sure if I'll actually contribute anything to the competition. I started working on an "On the rail" inspired dm map - with combat on trains and in between a few stations, with player controlled tanks in a few places. Got a small part done, but I've been too busy/lazy/drained to work further. Finishing technical takes most of my focus right now...

Welp. I've submitted my entry. Do I have to upload it seperately to the map vault if I want it to be able to be played by the public?
