The crap I do when I'm not doing commissions.
User posted image
Seriously, I should get these Comm's done... But I don't want too... They're all such Mary-Sue characters they make drawing them in shit styles not worth the money.

Anyway~!

What inspires you guys to continue to do something that you don't want to do?

Ditheriiiiing :o
Me likey.

How much do you charge for commissions any way?

I always plan out something i want to do. Realizing it is a challenge, but the goal is clear. Just like right now, where i spent 4 hours trying to configure XMS to utilize 64 megs of extended memory.
But the dumb thing only uses conventional memory.
So now I'm reading a shit load of shit because no one EVER had an idea that MAYBE they should document it step by step and not just - yea load this and that, you know what you shouldn't load.

XD Thankies.

Depends what it is. I range from $1 - $20 (AUD) base prices, depending on the style. Then additional charges for extra characters, backgrounds, Soft Shade or Cell shade, animals.... There are a lot of variables.

People like making things complicated so we go out and spend money on people who can do it for us. It sucks XD

Cool. For the style you used there, how much do you price those?
And whats your dA, i want to see what'cho yo got!
Commented 10 years ago2013-09-02 09:49:03 UTC Comment #67350
$1.50. They don't take long, and I'm still mastering the style.

Ergh! But, my dA is full of shitty anime stuff... >-> And pictures of me... being girly!!! XD

http://la--volpe.deviantart.com/ Have fun shuffling through 3 + years of shit, and ignore my dodgy digital art, I've only just started doing digital art recently.
Commented 10 years ago2013-09-02 10:22:19 UTC Comment #67346
Dont worry, i fully understand that to be good you need to suck first.
You'll get better if your practice :D

I did some digital art my self as well, but nothing professional or even mildly "good".

I'm trying to get Nina to open up dA, she also likes do draw around.

XD I THOUGHT THAT WAS YOU!!!
Dude, Nikola is my sister's name, I was like "Wait-wha? Oh male, nevermind."

Artistic Nude = good porn?
Commented 10 years ago2013-09-02 12:04:49 UTC Comment #67348
Why does your sister have a male name D:

God no, no artistic nude, never again.
Commented 10 years ago2013-09-02 12:17:00 UTC Comment #67353
Well, she was originally going to be a guy... XD But then my parents liked the meaning of the name so it stay with her. It was also unique. My family has a thing for unique names. XD I mean, my other sister is called Sjarni, how common is that, especially of here in Australia.

XD That's what Porn is called on dA.

Heh, artistic nude. I always said I want to try doing that sometime, but I have yet to come across a volunteer and no clients wanted that so far either.

I work as a photographer for hire, so I understand perfectly your lack of motivation. I very often find myself doing a job and thinking I'm doing crap photos, boring images that have no appeal and are of no artistic value whatsoever. But then I think, people pay me to do this. They WANT these dull, bland, uninteresting pictures, and they LIKE the way I do them or they wouldn't be hiring me in the first place.

It's hard to put it into words, but I find a bit of solace in thinking it means something to someone, even if I don't share that interest at all. But I keep thinking, this is what keeps me in the loop, what helps me make myself a place in the market to later be able to show off the good stuff. You've got to start somewhere, and this is one of the options.

Some photos are incredibly important to people, such as wedding pictures. I can see and feel the importance of the ones at the altar, with the ring, etc. I don't share that passion with the rest of the event, and I sometimes end up shooting them with disinterest. They even look all the same to me sometimes. But seeing how it turns out they mean just as much to the clients keeps me motivated to give them the best photos I can take.

With all due respect, if you don't mind me saying, I personally believe you're really good looking despite the things you do to your hair :P My apologies in advance to Scotch because I'm not supposed to say this to a girl that I know is taken, but if it serves as an excuse I'm saying it professionally as a photographer rather than as a random wanker from the internet.

Hey, you can compliment all you want. You just can't have her =P

I didn't know DA was set up for enabling commissions and getting artists some income. That's cool.
What are DA points? Do they translate to real-world money at all?
Commented 10 years ago2013-09-03 01:34:42 UTC Comment #67332
god damn you must work hard to make a living with those prices.
Commented 10 years ago2013-09-03 02:36:07 UTC Comment #67340
At least not at the same time as you, Scotch :P
Commented 10 years ago2013-09-03 04:52:09 UTC Comment #67354
I don't know, threesomes are pretty fun ;P XD

@Archie: Yeah, within the last year dA has been concentrating on the commission side of things. Though they have been failing... (The take 10%, so no one has been using their way.)

@Kraken: I get quite a lot of commissions and I don't do much (social-life wise).

@DiscoStu: ACTUAL artistic nude, yeah, I wanna try that too. (Probably not model though XD I'm usually behind the camera.)

I worked at a photography shop as an assistant for awhile, boss was a bitch but it was SOOOO much fun. I love doing photography, though I'm more into Nature and b/w neg portraits then normal people pictures.
Weddings are worth all the boring clique stuff though, there is so much money in it. XD

Naww that's sweet of you. Scott can suck it up, most of my friends are male and the amount of flirting that goes on when Scott is standing right next to me is insane. And no most of the time they aren't joking. XD

Internet pervy like

Ha, wow. The downside of being pretty. There really are people like that out there. Makes me feel better about myself :P
Commented 10 years ago2013-09-03 07:23:23 UTC Comment #67355
No, its the downside of the internet X)
There are also some really awesome people.

I got donate $1000 from some random to give away Premium Memberships, points and other dA merchandise and host contests... That was like 1 and 1/2 years ago. Great guy, a lot of people tried to take advantage of him so he left the community.

Scotch, I thought we had something going on! :'(((((((
Commented 10 years ago2013-09-03 09:07:01 UTC Comment #67337
Yeah, and here's little me who's never been flirted with/at in his entire life.

It'd be nice to be shown a little random appreciation, y'know?

NOTE: LaVolpe excluded from preceding statements.

EDIT: And Suture.

Stu, enough.
Commented 10 years ago2013-09-03 10:34:11 UTC Comment #67333
LaVolpe,
Do you use a pen-tablet, mouse or a touchpad for your digital art?

I HIGHLY recommend a tablet! It's incredible how much better they are to draw with.
Also, what program do you use?
Commented 10 years ago2013-09-03 11:35:43 UTC Comment #67356
@Archie: What's Stu doing? Because seriously, I don't find anything wrong with what his saying.

@Tetsu0: I have a Wacom Bamboo Gen 3, annnnnnnnnd, I don't like using it... I'm a Traditional Artist at heart, and I only started digital end of last year, bought a tablet beginning of last year. I sketch things Trad then just line and colour dig. using either Paint.Net or Gimp 2 (Free Programs)(Not interested in buying better programs these ones do exactly what I need for now.)
Commented 10 years ago2013-09-03 12:19:46 UTC Comment #67334
I also use Paint.Net and the tablet is awesome with it.
The pressure you put down can scale the pen size and I think it's a fantastic transition.

I do agree though, there's nothing better than Pen/Pencil on paper

Uh, what did I miss? I'm lost here :S
Commented 10 years ago2013-09-03 21:28:55 UTC Comment #67357
@Tets0: I like Paint.net for my lines and pixel based work. Gimp has a better range of tools for colouring though.... It could just be me liking multiple different programs to do things (for some reason I like doing that >-> No clue why though).

@Archie: ... 0.o (Seriously though I don't mind XD I'm a female gamer and I live on the internet, I'm use to it all.)

@Stu: I... Agree. MAYBE, his drunk?
Commented 10 years ago2013-09-04 22:37:15 UTC Comment #67338
That's some nice art. At one point I uploaded drawings I did, but I became too shy and insecure, and curled up in a fetus position, then cried in a corner, and finally took the pictures down. Okay maybe I exaggerate a little. The only things I DO have on my profile are screenshots of levels/maps I've made :P, and even then there's barely anything on there. Can't be arsed to populate the list.
Commented 10 years ago2013-09-05 12:08:46 UTC Comment #67358
Thanks Skals.

You should update it, I mean, I use my dA as a progression meter too see the evolution of my art style and ability.
Commented 10 years ago2013-09-05 13:21:27 UTC Comment #67335
Yeah i see the same thing looking at all the maps I submit here. They keep getting better and better. The past is always embarrassing because your standards and skills are so better now.

I usually feel very proud of myself because I and everyone else can see the improvement.
