I'm forever coming up with stories / concepts at the moment, for potential games or mods, but I don't have the time or know-how to action them. So... I figured I'd post them here so you guys can throw in your ideas and then maybe look into them in the future if I come up with a winner. :D

Random Source Mod idea #1

Multiplayer Mod - 2 teams compete throughout a large map to control a number of territories. The score for the team with the most territories under their control gradually increases and they win when the points reach a pre-determined amount (server settings)

Certain territories also grant access weapons or player buffs.

The maps also contain NPC spawners, throwing monsters and other enemies into the fray which can help or hinder your progress. For example, a player could lead a load of small enemy npcs into enemy territory while the rest of their team pushes a different area.

Players would likely be class based, such as your regular grunts with assault weapons, snipers, engineers to build defenses to prevent points being captured so easily, saboteurs to remove said defenses more efficiently and so on.

You know, it's kind of like TF2 :P

We could have a forum thread for this. I know I thought of doing this a few times before.

Seems like an interesting meld of Territorial Control in TF2 and Onslaught in UT2004.

It sounds like Dota 2 with the NPCs.

I had an idea for an RTS in which players have a set income to begin with ( random value ) and for each unit they kill, they receive how much it cost to create that unit. So basically your income is "bounties". Puts people off turtling as if they don't have some form of attack, they'll be overrun by a massive army and they've lost all chance of income.

I've always wanted to play a game where it was a slow paced FPS across a large scale map, with large teams, and one player on each team was the commander and had an RTS like playing style and viewpoint. It's a pity such a thing would probably never work in reality.

TJB; What about Natural Selection 2? Or the new Battlefield 4 with has the Commander?

I think he's talking NPC armies with a player commander. Sounds kind of like a large scale version of the Battlezone games.

I used to love Battlezone 1 on the PC.

Of course then it wasn't really large scale, but todays technology could easily handle it.

Actually, yeah, that does sound kinda like Battlezone. Good games, those.

TJB: What about "Savage"?
You can also control NPCs, but they are just builders with very low damage.

this would be better implemented in minecraft and cannons.

you get cannons that launch hordes of microzombies into your enemies lava castle

OR we can just have headcrab cannons. :)

ohhh if only i had enough time to code.

SCHOOL WHY WONT YOU ENDDDD

The BF4 commander mode seems to be about what I was thinking of, although I'll have to watch the video of it again later with sound to be sure.

I hadn't heard of those other games, I'll have to take a better look at them later.
