full star full star full star full star empty star Download (9.95mb)

You've all waiting! And now it's released!
I highly recommend downloading this map from here, and not through Steam, filesize is just over 11MiB, and downloading through steam would take ages.

But what am I saying, its well worth the wait!

Enjoy this map as much as I did making it!

Please, leave your reviews here!

I'll give it a go cause it'll give me ideas as well for something scary. I'll report after I've played it ok?
Commented 17 years ago2006-07-27 10:18:12 UTC Comment #12676
Ok so I played it and I did jump a bit actually...The bang type noises got me but who wouldn't be scared by it...

Anyway it was a bit small but I like how you converted the HL2 models...You also edited the Zombie which I thought was cool.

I didn't quite understand the trap because at first I thought it was gonna make that body do something...Anyway it was great overall and had a nice mood to it.

4.5 out of 5 because the things that could be improved are:

Maybe more areas to move in (Vents)
Some more scares like that painting...She could follow you with her eyes...

Good good!

4.5 rounded to 5

ah, cool. Glad you enjoyed it. More vents is a good idea, and I tried the eye thingy with the painting, but had no luck.. you see, the hole where the eye is, it's only a unit and a half big so I had a hard time working with a turret that small, I got many bugs like wierd shadows and whatnot. But hey, thanks for the rating, and I hope to see you in Muzzles server once its added!

Keep a lookout for my next one, due in a couple days. Look here:

actually, my net, phone, and cable was down, I contacted eastlink, and was told they where trying to fix it.. so yea, you should have no problem anymore.

+Great brushwork
+Great atmosphere
+Lighting, though I would have prefered it to be a little darker(but then of course people would complain)
+Texturing, I noticed that you use the asylum WAD. I'm using those same textures for a project of my own. Great set.
+Pretty spooky, though nothing really made me flinch
+/- The map had no real theme. It looked great, but it looked like you combined every single possible horror idea in this map. At one point I was in a kitchen and the next I was in some operating room?
+/- Weapon placement. Kinda sparse on the weaponry in my opinion.
-Fairly small and claustrophobic, would probably affect gameplay. But I'll definitely take visuals over gameplay for this one.
-The crying girl got a little repetitive after a while.

Overall 4 stars. Great work but there is always room for improvement. I'd love to see an extended sequel to this and possibly a single player version.

yea, very true, but its a deathmatch map, and I had recent concerns about lighting, and being too dark. I had no choice but to make it brighter then what it was originally. Thanks for the reviews guys!

I think a masterful horror map should NOT be horribly dark, whilst yes it IS atmospheric, it's annoying more than anything else, especially with HL's pitiful flashlight. I haven't actually played the map, i will whenever my PC is fixed, but i thought it was going to be singleplayer? :o

haha, yep it was going to be, but I seem to have a hard time finishing big projects that I start, but I wanted to release it, So I took all the parts I had made so far, and created a layout, and went from there. ;)

Good brushwork, good texturing, good ambience setup, good use of models. I liked the "kill everyone" switch. It adds a little spice to DM.
It was kind of fun seeing how the fridge would bleed yellow blood when it was hit, hehe.
The layout might not provide any revolutionary gameflow, but I think it does the job.

Thanks, yea, for my first DM map, the layout is'nt all that great.. but its full of detail, if it was any bigger, well, you get the point, haha.. anywhos, yep, thanks for the review Kasperg. Well appreciated!

You pulled off the scary/horror theme nicely with this dm!

+superb props/detail--The autopsy table was my fav--, though there is room for improvement. For example, the old-style switch at the beginning is excellent, but would look Way better if textured differently, or maybe scale the existing textures down to make the lightmaps sharper.

The rocking chair was a neat "ghostly" item, but maybe some more stuff like that. Some player models--skin?--rendered transparent, or to Glow, or to hologram would have been a great addition to that room.

+Great Lighting
+Superb texturing
+Great Ambients!
+Great use of models--the hook guy, the fridge...sweet.
-- Layout: Layout is cramped and not very intuitive imo.

All in all the theme is nearly flawless imo, but you could still make this map even better with a neater layout, and some more doodads like the rocking chair and/or some ghosts :P

Great work!

A teeny bit small, but that's OK. I liked how some of the models were converted from Half-Life 2. Especially the one hanging over the pentagram, which was also a nice touch, a pentagram that that hurts you after flipping the switch. Although, I think it seemed a bit unnatural the pentagram was switch operated.

What a really loved was the spooky noises and the moving door.

Thanks for the comments. And glad you liked it. And yes, I liked the door too. :D

Also, the switch triggered the bell. Which in return brought the ghost which harmed you.
