NOTE: this map was built with gamma/brightness turned all the way up. So, if your gamma and brightness are set to default(50% for each), this map will look very dark!

My entry for the first (and probably only) microchallenge, from this thread.

It's a scene depicted from the short story, Tideline, by Elizabeth Bear. In it, is depicted the robot Chalcedony, the last of the war machines, stranded on a beach for the rest her days, accompanied only by her friend Belvedere, depicted by you the player.

You can read or listen to the original short story by checking out the following links:

I usually try not to uplaod smallish, prefab-like stuff to the vault, but i feel this turned out really good.

There is no gameplay element, just basically a little eyecandy. I apologize for the very squarish terrain, but otherwise the scene is mostly complete. If i ever update this again, i will (besides fixing the terrain) add some elements to Chalcedony herself, which were mentioned in the story but i forgot to implement:

cargo nets (holding together chalcedony's carapace)
nets full of shells hung from her body
"big floods" attached to her body
"heat damage" caused by the crippling attack that stranded her on the beach

Enjoy and leave some comments please!

This map was crazy awesome looking, amazing brush work. I'll have to check it out again in more detail to be able to rate it.

dunno. I just tried playing it on a fresh Half-life (steam) install and it works fine. Also works fine for me on portable WON HL..

Make sure you:

1. Merge or copy/paste the ENTIRE included valve directory with your own, located in steamaps/steamname/half-life.

2. once that's done, pull up console and type: map micro001ct <enter>

Are you getting any type of error or is it just crashing? let me know if you've done all this and it still won't run.
