This is only the second time I've actually had to lug my entire setup to a location - usually I work from home or in an existing studio so I'm not in any hurry to drop a lot of money on a laptop powerful enough for AE - particularly now that a lot of what I'm dealing with is in 4K resolution. Chroma keying is removing an area of a video based on its chroma properties - i.e. the green screen shown here.
Stu, the camera was resting on the chair, don't worry

I dunno - I think simplicity can be used stylistically whereas blockiness tends to be pretty artless. This map definitely gets 'stylistically simple' imo.

This is very neat - I really like the aesthetic design. It's a very ambitious map and while the brushwork is very simple, it doesn't really count against the quality except in a few places where the detail is just a little bit too sparse. You chose a look and you stuck to it, though, and that is awesome. Aside from a few props being comically large there's really not much else to say about brushwork.
Lighting is perhaps a bit too dark in places which could potentially ware a bit thin over time.
Gameplay-wise, I only tested it alone so I can't be completely sure but it seems way, waaay too linear for counter-strike. There are only really two paths for terrorists to go and that combined with the CT's pre-existing height advantage I expect rounds would be extremely one-sided.
Overall, very cool design and an enjoyable place to explore, but I can't see it becoming a gameplay hit.

You'll all be pleased to hear I'm back on Windows 7 and got a full refund for my Windows 8 purchase. The polite Microsoft Support employee I spoke to on the phone informed me that they don't even use Win8 there in a MS support centre - it's that useless.
What an exceptional fuck up.
Edit:
Oh god, this is so much nicer. As a working environment it's just efficient, simple and extremely functional. I don't have a solid colour fullscreen app start up every time I want to launch a program or check the clock. Big image

I'm not disagreeing that I'm a fool for using Windows 8 - it's a colossal mistake on my part and I should have read more into it. When I read "Windows 8.1 fixes most of the problems with Windows 8" I didn't realise that the subtext continued "Windows 8.1 fixes most of the problems in windows 8 that made it literally unusable. Now it's just terrible, as opposed to completely broken".
You, however, are such a self-righteous moron that I'm amazed you can even breathe from having your head so far up your ass.

You've made me see the error of my ways, Stojke. From now on I will only pirate software because buying it is a waste, even if it pays for itself after one day's work.

OK, for those of you still on the fence, I cannot stress enough just how awful this OS is. It's sluggish as hell performing the most basic tasks, it has seized up and fully crashed over ten times since I installed it TWO DAYS AGO (win7 crashed less than that over the four YEARS I used it) and the UI is a complete mess.
It has also managed to fuck up my Adobe Creative Suite which, as well as now performing about 5x slower, will not export. This is my JOB it has now fucked up.
This is as bad as Windows ME. Easily. Vista was better.

You really need to learn to read, Stojke. 'End Task' is not the same as 'End Process' and implying that a 'start menu' that is so obtrusive it actually acts as a fullscreen app with a mess of icons is somehow better than something used for quick access to your system is bonkers.

Edited the original post to make the "My Windows 8.1 adventure:" bold for those who cannot read.
"Why would you install an regular start menu when Metro is a shit ton better?" Because it's unobtrusive, works well and more than anything it's what I'm used to. I want to be able to access my computer's contents from the desktop. I don't want to switch to a fullscreen UI just to do that.
"Give it some time to configure it, i first thought it was shit until i realized it is much much better than an normal pop up start." I am using a desktop. The Metro UI was designed for touch interfaces. What you are describing is known as Stockholm Syndrome.
"The shut down and computer/network info buttons are on the pop up menu accessed by pointing to the top right or bottom right corner of the screen. You can also shut down with ALT F4." Ok.
"To end an process press DELETE like in every windows before." Didn't know that. What is gained by removing the on-screen button for this?
"Plus Windows 8.1 task manager has more information, such as resource monitor with graphs, and better program overview. As well as startup control." Yes. All very good. Works nicely in desktop mode, as well.
I'm not saying don't have the Metro system. I'm just saying don't have the Metro system at the expense of the desktop system.

Ha, good answer!
If it comes to it, I just bought a Panasonic DMW-MS2E for my new camera and it's a pretty god-damn-great shotgun. It's fairly basic, but I doubt you'd find a cheaper mic at this level of quality. I'd normally avoid going against the big names in mics for a shotgun (Sennheiser and Rode being the big players), but when the Senn. 416 (which is what I trained on at college) is up to £900, I really couldn't justify the expense.

Still cannot recommend this setup more and it's well within your budget. I've used it for everything from high-end BBC broadcast work to teamspeak with Urby.
It's not designed for field-work, so don't expect to use it as an alternative to a shotgun mic or anything, although I'm fairly sure that's not what you're in the market for.

Ha, Striker, there is a heat-haze layer in the composition - I disabled it for better performance while I was working on the reflection and completely forgot to put it back on for the render. What a derp.

1 x Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780Ti 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card + 3 FREE GAMES @ £557.99 inc. VAT
The games were the new Splinter Cell, the new Assassins Creed and the new Arkham, worth about £100 for the three of them. Still makes £450 for a gfx card which is the most i've ever spent on a PC component by a LONG margin.

Urby, it was part of the price of yhe rig. You still bought it. Technically I didn't since I won my rig, but I would have otherwise. Windows 8.1 is cheaper than BF4 with Premium and it is responsible for everything you run. How can you possibly argue they charge too much?

Making the path to the bridge connect to the path to the first marker that tells you to find the wetstone would lead the player down there much earlier. I thought the green gem was the wetstone so i was trying to throw it into the blue sprite above the marker and such (irretrievable up there, btw - restart) before I even noticed the bridge.

While it's certainly fair to say it's rough around the edges, there is actually a great deal of content in this map to enjoy.
The effects are a step above the rest - entity work and your time spent with the particle editor has paid off in spectacular fashion and the area feels extremely vibrant for it.
Brushwork and texturing leave a little to be desired - texturing in particular would have been far better with some custom content but overall almost every vista in this world could be described as breathtaking.
There are a few bugs here and there, mostly with the skybox which looks like it's only had a fast VIS compile (world is visible through bottom of skybox) and there are a few ways (despite your best, and commendable efforts) to prevent progress. I hate games that handhold the player, but this is perhaps just slightly too far in the other direction. "Find the wetstone" is not enough information to start with and I originally felt quite out of my depth with what I was trying to achieve, despite finding the green gem very quickly.
The music note puzzle was excellent, although again, some custom textures would've done wonders.

Iphones are pretty terrible. I haven't used one since the 4s, so I can't properly judge the 5, but I have no reason to think they've improved, and they're certainly not worth the price tag. Get a Galaxy S3. Relatively very cheap now that the S4 is out and it's almost on par with my old pc in terms of power and capability.
The extra screen size is also lovely

I live in a nice apartment with central heating, double glazing, a power shower, a bath, 2 double bedrooms, a kitchen w/ dishwasher, a massive living room and a utility room with a washing machine. I am 15 minutes walk away from my job, which I love and I have access to one of the UK's most vibrant cities at my doorstep.
You live on a farm road in a cottage with no insulation, no shower - barely electricity - and you're an hours' drive from your job which you hate and an hours' drive from the nearest city which is basically just an uppity town.
Blue screens certainly aren't rare, by the way. They're a lot better for keying blonde-haired people and green-skinned orks.
Chroma keying is removing an area of a video based on its chroma properties - i.e. the green screen shown here.

How to reinstall Win7 legally without a disc. If your PC came with win7 pre-installed as mine did, this is the solution.

Me. It's at a fair price point, will last for half a decade if not longer and is a legal requirement of its use.
