I heard most of Tokyo was barely affected aside from some panicking grocery shoppers. Good to hear he's fine, anyway.

What does he do?

I'm confused. Is this a microwave with a detachable grill or something? I've never heard of anything like that.
Are you saying that the same compartment that is used for the microwave also has an electric grill attachment?

I'm sorry that you had to take my comments as some kind of attack/judgment.

The combination of your message + the link you posted is, for all intents and purposes, also spam.

To clarify further, I probably should have said, "...when the topic is sharing a link to something like a funny Youtube video that has little lasting appeal or value for discussion."

Obviously things like game trailers are excluded from that rule of thumb.
Commented 13 years ago2011-03-03 19:43:00 UTC in journal: #7080 Comment #57324
Hilarious indeed, but this is yet again shoutbox material. There's not much room for discussion when the topic is simply sharing a link, and that's what the shoutbox is for.

I hate journal spam.

This could have been a shout. Why is it a journal.

@Huntey: Lucky you. In education, I've been confined to the same purely-academic-content type courses until I start doing student teaching. We don't get a lot of practical/real world assessments from courses in this department.

This same video, or at least a video with the same content, was posted in a thread a few years ago.
It generated some serious tension, and for a while TWHL was thought of as anti American.

I think the thread was called "Dumb Americans" or "Stupid Americans".

Edit: I think it might have been this thread but I'm not sure. I specifically remember the content from that video generating a lot of anger.

But yeah, it's mostly bullshit. Unless myself and everyone I know really are more knowledgeable than the greater population, it's mostly bullshit.

I'm sure he'll hate you during his adolescent years for recording all of this, and then he'll be eternally thankful. So often I wish I had recordings of myself that young so I could look back and laugh.

The trailer doesn't really sell me. If I didn't know it was the next Elder Scrolls game, I'd say that whatever game this trailer is showing off looks no different than any other generic medieval fantasy. The environments are pretty, but surely there's something more Bethesda could have shown us to distinguish Skyrim. That is, unless it really does boil down to "they don't need to" at this point.

Make no mistake, I never got into the Elder Scrolls franchise. However, I at least always got the feeling that Oblivion had a unique feel just by looking at screenshots or videos, or by watching my brother play.

I don't know.

Are you afraid to be around people or do you just like to keep to yourself? There's a fine line between being strongly introverted and having social anxiety disorder :P
No idea why you don't want more than 4 people? That's not something you have to justify. In my experience, most people have long since grown out of that mentality that keeping to one's self or having few friends is some kind of indicator of social failure. That or I've just grown out of caring and have stopped noticing it on others.

What do you mean you "suck at all but the most essential social activities?" You and I have had plenty of conversations over Steam, I've never noticed anything particularly "sucky" about them.

Edit: Which isn't to say that you shouldn't keep considering exactly where your social skills stand, of course. Socializing is a skill. Outgoing people obviously have much more chance to perfect that skill than people who prefer to stay alone.

Edit Edit: Or you could be slipping into depression.
If you really start to get concerned, have a long talk with a psychologist to try to find out what's up. Food for thought.

The first one was pretty good. The second 2 are pretty much more of the same, and with Halo's notoriously shallow characters, it gets exhausting. It's the same environments, same weapons, and mostly same characters every time without any sort of interesting development.
The Half Life franchise has used the same weapons and enemies for 3 games now, but the environments have been nicely varied and the key characters have real personality.
To be fair, the aesthetics of Halo still make it pretty unique in the face of countless brown war shooters. The Halo universe is also surprisingly deep if you read into it. I really try, as a Half Life fan, to see why the HL universe is so much better, but I just can't.
The biggest problem is that Halo only seems interesting if you read beyond the redundant games. I never felt like anything significant was happening outside of what my little master chief eyes saw. Half Life didn't give us so much direct insight into its universe either, but the games were still interesting standing alone. There's such a strong implication that "that important thing is happening over there, but you're also doing this important thing over here."

Edit: Sorry, didn't mean to derail things. Carry on.

Sorry to hear that. Better luck in the future, I guess.

Your scene looks like it's off to a good start and the concept looks pretty. What are the red things that will be sitting under the arches next to the fountain?

Edit: The grate+fountain combination doesn't really make a lot of sense. The grate makes it look like this is supposed to be some kind of drain/dump/sewer, but the fountain makes it look like it's supposed to be some kind of foyer. If it's a foyer, why is that grate there? If it's a drain, why is that fountain there?

Edit: I read the story for the scene. The fountain still doesn't make a lot of sense.

You've ever been able to preview ambient sounds in Hammer 3.5, if that's what you're trying to do.
You probably linked to a bad path without knowing it.
