The one that i can really think up that is free is blender, from experience you either like it or you don't. The obvious standard in game modelling is 3ds Max, personally i would use Maya, but that comes down to choice neither are free nor cheap. Not sure if Autodesk Softimage (XSI) Modtool is still around, that is a free version of XSI or whatever its called now with some limitations.

Depends on what you define as general, say if you want to record voice and environment sounds you will need different mic's. For voice its best to get a cardiod pattern mic such as the AT2020. Though for that kind of a budget this: http://bluemic.com/yetipro/ has all the features you will ever need. Just pick up a shockmount for it.

Ive only got a 560ti, but now sitting on a 525m. Nvidia has really stepped up their reference design to a point where you really want to think about if you need a custom cooler.

Well since its the basement, power is shared with all residents so its basically free, it amounts from 0.5$ to 1$ a month it seems my machines have no impact to the power consumption.
As far as specs go: The machine on the left P4@ 2.55ghz/2gb ram/60gb SSD/ Runs Linux and an MySQL server. Middle: AMD Duron@ 1.3ghz/256mb sdram/2*40gb HDD/ WinXP general FTP and my web server (mysql decided not to work on this machine) The right one: P4@ 2.4ghz/2gb ram/2*80gb HDD/ WinXP 2*HL servers
Router has a 100/100 FTTH link, got a VPN configured so remote admin is not a problem gotta love RouterOS.

I read in the manual that if the red led in on it wont start, i mean you jump the pwr pins nothing happens, the fans don't start up well nothing. Also according to the manual there has to be a AGP card in the system. Ran it without anything still the same.

Well the problem with it is i does nothing when i trigger the power switch. The LED's light up so i am lead to believe it should start up, but it doesnt. I did some reading around that the red led near the AGP port should not light up, its some sort of a protection mechanism so that you dont plug 3.3v graphics cards in there. I have a bunch of AGP cards and it does not matter what card i put in the led is still on and the system wont start. Even leaving the port empty doesnt solve it. Its a AGP pro slot, though older AGP cards are compatible with it. So either i am doing something wrong or the mobo is dead.
