Oh no no, I'd never get rid of it. I always want to utilise it somehow.
For now, it'll be useful for performance evaluation in maps etc.

I've also got a 2005 HP Compaq which I'm planning to use as a small home server. :3

Don't worry, man. I'm going to an electrical engineering school, and I've got to get to the bus every morning and travel 40km to get there, and 40km back.

At first, I thought it would be impossible for someone like me, but fortunately, I was wrong. I got used to it. I'm no longer nervous because I know I'm on a good path. ^^

Good luck to you. I'm sure you'll make it. Just take care of yourself and study well.

VBS scripts still do work, my brother has made some and I tested them on Windows 10 (he wrote them in malicious intentions, but it works).

The problem back then was, I knew no theory whatsoever. And I mean the basics (apart from what compiling is and some stuff). It was basically a head-first dive without breathing in any air. :P
I was just copy-pasting from coding tutorials and then trying to fix the compiling errors one by one. I'm kinda surprised that it all even worked.
But yeah, now I'll do it the right way. It took me 3 years to consider it though. Let's just hope that my actions match up to what I say, as I often get too buried in my own projects. <-<

IMO the neat part was the concept and focus on the lore. I am indeed planning to return to it one day. It wouldn't hurt anybody.

What I will remember forever about this mod, is that it spawned a new set of branches on my skill tree. So far it was mapping and video editing, but that mod made me start learning texturing, modelling, coding and music production. I definitely appreciate what it did to me.

I was on a 6-month vacation from GameBanana, basically. If we compare 'Crater 2015' to dm_5nights, you can see how much I improved my mapping skills in terms of entity work, and brushwork in the meantime.

As for coding, that's the only area where I'm lacking a major component. I can only do so little right now. But to be fair, back then I was compiling in VC 6.0 on version 2.3 of the HL SDK and I had no idea where to learn.
Programming is something I'll study anyway, and I don't think it's too late to start actively learning it now.

Well, I'm thinking either AC or BC, 16GB. What do you think?
I initially went for a Samsung 850 EVO (250GB) but it's a bit too expensive.

The MS PSU is a placeholder until I can find the price of an EVGA 450 B1 in my country. MS Industrial's PSUs are plain unreliable, and they're like a disease which roams nothing but the lands of former Yugoslavia (at least as far as I can tell). Their cases seem to be fine though.

One another advice: IIRC you're about 16, read the heck out of every book that you find interesting.

Speaking of that, I got a book about what Bosnia and Herzegovina was like in 1896 (as part of the reward on the IT competition). I'll definitely read it.

About the PC, I think it's good luck in disguise. I mean, 5 years ago I really wanted an AMD A4-6300, AMD Radeon HD 6450 and 2 or 4 GB of DDR3 RAM. I was pretty much just going for the cheapest things I could find on PcPartPicker, not caring at all about the motherboard, PSU and the case.
2 years after that, I went for something similar: AMD A4-6300, AMD R7 250, 4GB of RAM. In 2015, I wanted an AMD X4-860K, nVidia GTX 750 Ti, and 4GB of RAM. In 2017, I finally decided to choose something more relevant: AMD Ryzen 5 1500X, RX 460 or GTX 1050, 8GB of RAM etc.

And this year, I think some of the parts will be the following:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600
Memory: 8, 12 or 16 GB (200KM, 300KM vs. 400KM, we'll see)
GPU: GTX 1050 or 1050 Ti (330KM vs. 470KM, we'll see)
Storage: 1TB HDD and a 250GB SSD

As for the motherboard, PSU and case, I've talked to my seller about it. Cases are one of the most repetitive things in this country. In every shop, it's either 3 or 4 unique cases. <-<
And good PSUs are rare, as most shops only have ones from an unknown brand, and are mostly 300W. Motherboards aren't as rare, but there are usually no quality ones unless you really invest into them.

Luckily we managed to find an Asus Prime B350-Plus, which to me seems good. It even has a PS/2 port which I find surprising, but that's good as well. I won't have to buy a new keyboard. ;)

@JeffMOD
Thanks for the advice, I'll keep that in mind.

I think it only took them less than a week, so not that much. :D

Apparently this program used to cost nearly $3000. Combined with the price of all that new equipment and a SVGA that is supported by the Vibrant driver, a total of $12k. Wow. Yet people complain that 3ds Max is costly. :P

Unbelievable!

Today I won 2nd place at that IT competition.

At first I wanted to do the C++ compo, but they stuck me into the IT theory compo.
Aaand, I hoped I'd get into the top 20 at least. At least.

There were so many older students than me. I was the only 1st-grader there, among 2nd, 3rd and 4th-graders. I felt like a baby among grownups >-<

I was so surprised that I won 2nd place, 1st place being a popular 4th-grader from my high school. I just couldn't believe I was in the same 'basket' as someone who knows so much more than me and has so much more experience than me. One thing though. Both of us went to the same elementary school. ;)

I've tried at least 5 drivers (2 official by Intel and Fujitsu, 3 modded), lol. They all have one thing in common - providing broken OpenGL support.

On Windows XP, this isn't a problem.

Also, old rendering pipelines are the only things my Intel GMA X3100 can support. xd
Commented 6 years ago2018-04-02 09:05:32 UTC in journal: #8924 Comment #68527
If Wings3D uses OpenGL to render the viewports, then I won't use it until I get a new PC. For some reason, my GPU has OpenGL support on Windows XP x86, for example, and it has OpenGL support on Windows 7 x64. The difference being that it's working in XP, but broken on 7 (x64, since x86 was fine before I upgraded).

So, I managed to finally install 3ds Max at around 00:10. When I launched it, the viewports were broken but I switched the display driver to legacy Direct3D. And, I have to say...

3ds Max 2016 looks so much sexier than 3ds Max 6. O.O
And it runs on my 11-year-old laptop. ^^

Not a fan of Blender TBH.
Besides, the latest Blender needs OpenGL 2.1 to run, so I had to use an earlier version of Blender, but even then I got 25fps when I selected a cube. -_-

I just don't want to learn it until I learn 3ds Max, so there.

"I've never been so moved, brooding and nostalgic, yet so motivated and ready to act in my entire life. As if creativity was the best way for me to cope with anything bad coming my way."

Every time something bad happens, I guess we mostly either panic and/or get sad, or we act even better than before. I think it's one of those things that makes us human.

"Did your parents ask for tuition when they taught you to walk? Did they charge you fees when they prepare meals for you to eat?"
They didn't because it's priceless and of immeasurable value. No amount of money would be able to fulfill that childhood-long service. But they didn't do it for money. I'm quite thankful to have great, albeit a bit strict and partially odd parents that brought me to this world.

"My parents gave me money when I needed it for a down payment for a house. I buy them stuff (iPhone, TV, cars) when they need it. There's never any mention of any repayment."

You have a different system. Mine's been lasting since I was 9. I once collected about 400 KM when I was 10, and I had an idea to upgrade my PC, but my parents took it all and bought lots of other stuff, lol.

I was saving up for 5 years for this new PC, and just when I was at the peak, about to buy what so many people told me I deserve, they asked and took some money from me. One time, it was without even asking me, so I hid my wallet where they literally couldn't find it.

Also these 4 broken promises, and now probably the 5th one (or 4.5th? I mean it depends on something we cannot control, so). If the 5th promise is kept, I probably won't bother them ever again until I finish high school.

@Crollo
I didn't quite mean to 'rebel' in the way of studying poorly. No, never. That would be bad for my reputation and my self-respect, and multiply my self-pity. I hate F's, D's and to a slight extent, C's. These promises gave me that extra motivation to reach the more perfect scores, but that's just a cherry on top of the cake.

What's really motivating me is something else, something far broader and far-fetching than a single PC.
My jaw dropped when I entered the NSoft building with my classmates. We were so, so amazed that a relatively big IT company has its headquarters in this jalopy of a country, in the same city where I go to high school.

Therefore, by 'being a rebel' I meant having a stricter policy on this financial ecosystem going on at home. Either way though, it would end up worse. Bad grades = angry parents and no new PC, while refusing to give money = troubles with parents and perhaps more problems for themselves.

The talk I had yesterday calmed me down and brought me more hope, so I guess I won't mention this specific topic until either March, or June.

I talked to them today about this issue, and in short, they said it's going to happen if something else happens. It's something about my dad's retirement, since my dad hasn't received his pension for 2 months in a row, so he's apparently getting a higher one this time.
I'll be fine if it doesn't happen, since this is only for January and February.

If I've been patient for years, I can remain so for a couple of more months at the very least. Besides, there's a part of a song that goes: "ono što se čeka dugo, bude najslađe" - "what is waited for the longest, becomes the sweetest".

For now, all I could do is upgrade my new rustbucket a little bit, since its poor GPU is dying. I'm thinking a GT 710 for 85 KM (about 43 €) would do the job just fine.
My classmate will gift me his 2 GBs of RAM as well. In the end, I think it might end up more powerful than my current laptop, but we'll see.

@satchmo
That reminds me of the moment when my brother asked me "Admer, when will I have my own rules in the house?", "When you get your own house.", "When will I get my own house?", "When you're old enough and have the money for it."

I am, however, going to buy it by myself. I'll pay for the parts by myself, build it etc. but the problem is my parents just owe me money because around 20% of my budget is missing due to them borrowing some cash from me. And there's hardly any way I can earn money any more (until summer, of course). My paid maps don't count since that's for games on Steam. :P

Honestly, now that I had that talk with them, I feel like this journal was quite unneccesary for the most part. They told me that they might return the last 200-300 KM they owe me, I might finally build the computer of my dreams, and everyone will be happy. It comforts me.
