Hi guys! Does anyone here know / remember how I can make random things happen via triggers in hl1 maps? I remember a while back I used some entity setup to randomly trigger one of four events, all having 25% chance of activating, but I forgot how this is done. Any help please?

Hey brotatis, I'm not trying to sound evulz here or anything but, you do know that filefront only hosts files for a couple of months before they get deleted? It happened to most of my old maps I uploaded there... I saw that you uploaded these files to filefront, so it'll only be a matter of time before they're down again.

Noo Tetsu0! From now on you still have 25 hours to submit the entry! That's one whole day + 1 hour! If you can't finish the project off, at least you can still enter the competition with what you have already made in this small amount of time, there is no need to let all the project go to waste just because you weren't able to add the finishing touches... Hey, even my map was supposed to be 2x bigger, but I rarely had any time to map this month, with all the school and other occupations and even my hammer not working for half of the competition, I still entered with this small-ass map and hope to win :P.

I lol'd. I'm putting my stuff in folders now. Gonna fix a few tiny bugs and test it with mah friend, then submit it. I've made a small (but extremely detailed, and I'm not just saying that) cs 1.6 map. Works for steam and non-steam, with default cs textures.

I hope the judged won't be really strict on these. I'm making a cs map of the invasion of bay of pigs, I'm using modern day pictures of the area to help me map something according to the theme. I have the right trees and textures here, but of course there is no way I could map the place accurately and to what it might have looked like 50 years ago, unless I was there, so I hope it's alright if I map a cuban shore-like environment with some destroyed buildings and slap the name "bay of pigs" on top of it.

I did so, now the good thing is hammer opens up my map! (where as it crashed before I added this.) But it still doesn't work properly, since I can see nothing inside my map, all the windows are blank and I cant use hammer properly.

Hi guys! I'm having problems with my ATI Raedon HD 2400 graphics card.

I installed the latest version of drivers for this video card, and everything worked fine, even hammer... but for some reason this new driver resulted in my pc constantly crashing! I could use the pc properly, but I would occasionally get a blue screen, which tells me there is a problem with my AtiDvag. I decided to install an older version of drivers instead, and I think this solved the problems with the crashing, but now hammer 3d view wont work!

I checked out this page on twhl: http://www.twhl.co.za/wiki.php?id=1072

I did as it said, I inserted the first file into hammer directory, hammer didn't even open my map (crash), so I tried the second file with same results. I tried the second file only and 3d view didn't work again.

I have also tried overclocking my video card with the latest driver, and have tried almost every older and newer driver for this card to see if at least one of them doesn't crash but allows 3d view at the same time, to no avail.

My pc is a windows xp -32bit. Please help!

So I'm making this map for Cs 1.6, I plan to make it story less due to the fact that much time is not displayed for this, but then again it works well this way, because what I am making, is the invasion of bay of pigs, so a Terrorist vs Counter-terrorist situation plays out nicely there.

Yeah, sorry to tell this straight to you but stop trying to make mods and get some mapping and communication skill first...
And before you guys start telling me off, remember that project he had a month or two ago? He got me to make a map for him with a tram ride leading to the start of the facility for his mod. I put a months work into it, and he ended up not using it and "removing me from the project" because I created these maps with the newest SHLT tools and his default hammer ones couldn't cope with my map hence he discarded it (even though I told him to get the newest tools and spirit, which he refused to do and told me he needs no shit like that.)
Oh and by the way, yesterday he crawled back to me asking me to make another map for him, even after all of that.

I wouldn't advise any of you guys to join his projects, Unless you like being annoyed by a 11 year old with almost no mapping skills or brain.

Guys! I just got a new pc! yaaaaaaaaay!
Problem I have now however is, I can enter hammer and run it well. GUD GUD. but, when I open up the texture window inside hammer and click on any textured face, hammer always crashes. Any ideas on why this is happening? My specs are:

Intel(R) Core(TM2)Duo CPU
E8200 @ 2.66GHz
2.66 GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM

and video card is ATI Raedon HD 2400 XT

Aw dam, I should of switched source when I wanted to. I'm still a gold-source mapper >.<

Well it don't matter! I plan to wait about 2 years to raise my mapping skills even higher + switch to source engine, and during the same time learn to create 3d models and learn some theory behind level design within the games development college course I am currently undertaking, that way I will be able to make my own large source projects, and obviously later on when I complete my university course as well, join the gaming industry.

It depends on how bad the jitter is. If it's minimal and you can live with it you should just go ahead and leave it like that unless you find a proper solution. I doubt there is a proper solution like this, since I think I've actually never seen a sloped elevator like this, and I guess this jitter is the reason for it.

Jeffmod, that's generally something one would do in goldsource engine, but source is different, so there would probably be another way to solve this.

The gun is not really that overpowered, it's just to do with where you put it. For example, if you put it in some random easy to reach corridor to let anyone take it constantly, then yes, it will be over powered, but If lets say you make a map with a large room in the middle, and small tunnels going around it, and make the room pretty tall, at the top you could put the egon on some platform, to which you would have to complete like a series of box jumps or ladder climbs to get to, by which time you could already be dead before you get it. That would be a lot less overpowered since it would be quite hard to get to it.

Also there is the issue of the small ammo usage for it, but why add ammo for this gun into your map? If you don't like one player hoarding this gun and constantly raping everyone cause he has so much ammo, don't add any. I'm pretty sure the standard gun has 20 ammo alone, and that's maybe 2-4 kills?

Now for the competition itself... This competition is extremely limiting to resources, time, and imagination. I'm guessing I have to remake a well known historical event accurately right? But with any historical event I choose, I would have to somehow find appropriate textures, sounds and models to fit this event perfectly, and for some events these may be very hard to find and one may not have the knowledge or time to create these, so anyone that maps an event taking place within the 1950-2000 would have a massive upper hand since the textures, models and sounds we currently have are based around those times. But then again if I'm allowed to map absolutely anything that might have happened in the past, or perhaps a location of the past, this competition has no point at all, since I could simply create some forest or a jungle and label it 2000BC... Now I read up on the compo page a couple of times, and I understood that I am also allowed to map ANYTHING "historical" that might have actually not happened but just has a good story to it and stuff, but how exactly are we supposed to make a good map with a back story to it in 27 days?

Now I'm not pretty sure wtf this competition is about or what I will be judged on, so can you please explain this to me judges?

I watched it, I think they screwed it up just like Eragon. They just flew through the entire story only showing the cool bits and that was it. Not that I watch the last airbender cartoon, but It just gave me the same effect.
