It's like even ACTA didn't want Canada aboard, so they thought up the craziest acceptance task ever thinking Canada'll piss off.. which it didn't.

Seriously, though, I can only imagine the lines at their border this new search will cause. EAT THAT, PIRATEBAY!!

Very nice so far. The castle walls look a bit plain though - some extra details or even giving them a brush-based brick/stone texture would fix that.

in CS hostages as hl npc's Post #248899
Actually, CS hostage animations were ripped from HL1 scientists, so porting backwards shouldn't be a problem.
Try naming the model scientist.mdl and placing it in your mod's models directory. Then use monster_scientists to create a hostage (he'll sound and act like a normal scientist though).

I don't think the current state of the code is finished enough for alpha testing. It's still very dirty in most places and overall unpolished.
I'd like to at least finish collisions and some of the smaller movement/stability glitches and exploits revealed through Rimrook's testing before releasing it for alpha testing.

That shouldn't take too long anyway, plus - you'd be provided with a more stable, cleaner view on the main techniques in 6-D.

in Portal Storms, your thoughts? Post #247555
Ah well, perhaps its possible to get different types of portal storms so I'll perhaps be able to use what I want in maps anyway with a little explination.
That's the way to go. I actually liked Valve's take on the storms, though if you manage to pull off at least half of what you want to see in them - it should absolutely kick ass. :)

Only problem I see with allowing quotes is that the comments may start to turn into a mini-discussion
Why is that a problem? Any journal post can spawn some sort of discussion, provided you can comment on it. If you want to avoid that, you'll have to scrap comments entirely. :\
Imo, all comments/posts/etc. should have an equal ammount of BBcode enabled (all of it). Sure, some jackass might get the idea that image spam in a journal comment is cool, but hell, there will always be idiots. You'd have to disable IMG tags everywhere to completely avoid that.

Also, you should be able to edit your last journal comment. A journal comment counter next to the others in your profile would be good too. ;>

.. and are you going to enable comments for News Posts?

in Who is Gman ? Post #247346
Gman has pretty much always been my favorite character in the HL series. I think he's one of the backbones in HL's story mostly pointing out/reminding you that the main reasons for your actions throughout the series aren't just fighting for survival or helping friends, that the results of whatever you're doing go much further beyond surviving the day.

As for who he is - you can speculate as much as you like. I'll just wait for Ep3. ;P

The system allows as many winners as you want - no problem with that. However, giving away two trophies just because it's a tie doesn't sound too fair, so I say no.

in MOTM system proposal Post #247064
Heh, that's how the new system should and will work, only there's no separate voting page. I don't really think we need a whole whopping MV-like page. Simply adding documentation on how and where to vote, making the motm awards/icons in winner map MV pages link to their respective review pages and more publicity would do, imo.

Current Score
Black Mesa Lobby HL1 Remake - 3
Mario_World - 3
de_kalt - 1
de_substation - 1

de_kalt is superjer's work, he didn't submit it for anyone. And the actual date of creation doesn't really matter, as long as it was submitted here at the right time.
As for my vote - I actually managed to get the names mixed up. My vote goes to de_substation.

There should be a new suggestions thread.

Anywho - I really like how the MotM page looks now, a MV-like layout for the main page works just fine. However, the page with the winning map itself could use a change or two.

The way each review gets its own page is very nice, though I think each review page should still contain the Winner Info section at the top (you could just merge it with each review and scrap it as a separate scetion). Also, a Next/Prev. review button would work right.

The way scores are coloured depending on the percentage is mighty nice aswell. ;>
