in What makes a CS map fun? Post #107845
There are a few things you need to make this work:

1: Multiple roughts. There need to be a few, but good in detail, ways to get to each bombsite/hostagesite. This adds variety, and adds a way for team cooperation.

2: Hiding places. This may encourage campers, but as you are shooting people, its a good idea to have some stuff to duck around and sneak up on the enemy with.

3: Everything else a good map needs ;) . Obviously, it needs to look good, but make it consistant. Aztec, Dust, and the other proffesional maps only have a few textures that are repeated throughout.

I like the idea of 2 compos.

They could alternate indefinatly. I know this is asking a lot from the staff, but it would be a good idea to have a HL1 compo go, and when the timelimit of that one is done, a source compo go (With obvious breather brakes in between). Now that they seem to be expanding the staff, this would be easier to orchestrate.

They would probably let Rabid do the HL2 one :o

Hhmm...

The storyline could be cleaned up into a nice one...

Going to be hard to explain the WW2 bunker...

Now that I've seen these screenies:

1: I like your lighting. You do a good job with the lighting to make the most of the generic textures you are using

2: I like the setup. It obviously sets a mood, although that mood seems a little too similar to some of the levels in HL.

3: I don't like the textures, but that will obviously be fixed later.

If you send me the .wad, and something to do, I would be happy to make a short map for this :)

Maybe a filler map before something drastic in the storyline happens. I'm good at that. New Problem had like 10 filler maps that I made... worked great. Too bad the MOD is dead though...

HA!

Cotton balls!

Thats weirder than my Balloon thing!

I believe its just the "Ebbe Jeebies". Most people get it with fingers on a chalkboard, and such. It probably has to do with the reaction between rough objects. Your skin is obviously rough with all the fingerprints.

To be honsest, I get it when eating certain foods. Its the consistancy that really causes it. When something rubs against something, it creates a "noise". Rough against rough usually makes a wierd sound, probably mentally undetected by the ears, but physically detected by the censory crap in your fingers, and subconciously taken in through your ears. These together create discomfort in the brain, cause what we call the "Ebie Jeebies", or "Freaking out".

Many things can cause this odd reaction, but it is usually seen with "Rough on Rough". I guess the wool and cotton balls being pulled apart has a similar affect on you as fingers on a chalkboard has to the average person. I actually have learned to accept this feeling. In fact, it really doesn't affect me anymore since tried to "get it" so many times (Fingers on chalkboard). I finally grew adapt to it, and it no longer bothers me.

My advice to you, start pulling apart those cotton balls apart by the hundreds. Accept the feeling, don't fight it. While you do this, your back may "constrict". Its pretty much the spinal coard trying to "Take in" this feeling. Don't worry, everything is fine. It really has no harsh physical affect on you.

Goodluck wit ya cotten ;)

Before you create a MOD, I would suggest you come up with more impressive screenies than that.

I think you need to take some time to learn advanced architexture techniques, more adequite texturing, and also, find a better subject.

I have a fear of balloons.

Its not balloons in general, but blowing them up. I have a fear that it will somehow pop while I'm blowing into it, and get lodged in my throat.

I also have a fear of knowing too much. I strive to understand and know more and more, but I also fear that when learning "too much", I will be shocked to find out something that I really didn't want to know, such as if there is "Destiny". I don't like destiny. In fact, I really don't want to know "What happens" before it does happen. I prefer the idea that I can make my own choices and from those choices an outcome will... well... come. Its not like being in the movie theater, watching Titanic, and the guy next to you wispers "The boat sinks". Its much more than "ruining the ending". Its more of a control issue with me. Such that I want to control the outcome of the movie.

Invisible:

You cannot make an invisible brush unless it is tied to an entity.

Use the texture called "Invisible". It should be bluer than my avatar.

Then, make that brush an entity, lets saaay... a func_wall. When you tie the brush to an entity:

1. Change the Render Mode to texture (Or solid)

2. Change the FX Ammount to... 0... or 255... whatever..

Usually, when you tie a brush to an entity, you can edit the Render Mode and make the "Blue" color look invisible. This works for a func_train, and a func_tracktrain, so you can make an invisible moving object.

To learn more about trains, look at the tutorial on this site.

Most HL "minimods" are composed of multiple maps, since you can only put so much in one map. HL is designed to have small, but many maps.

Before you try and create any sequence of maps, I would advise you to practice with level changes, til' you have a good understanding of how they work.

In reality, all you need is a trigger_levelchange (Or whatever that entity is. Im away from hammer so I cannot look it up manually) and a info_landmark in each map.

Well, good luck in all your essay writing endevors...

I personally had no problem with essay writing. It came naturally to me. I enjoy writing, but I will never make a carrer out of it here in America, since I'm a Conservative Republican. Almost every writer/actor/newperson/musician here in America is Liberal, so I will have a hard time finding a carrer that suits me...

The av stiff. Let me explain this, since it was my fault it started.

We had a "discussion" thread, in which we disscused religious and moral issues. We all got out of hand, and it turned into one big hate fest.

I was the only American Christian Republican who dared to stand up for what I believed in.

so, it turned into a group of Aetheust Democrats vs Me.

As a sign of Hate, mr. Seventh here decided to put "Proudly Liberal" in his avatar. It stands as a hate symbol toward me.

I never have had anything of the sort in my avatar. In fact, my Avatar has been the same for a year and a half now.

People tried to impersonate the origional signs of hate by putting such useless stuff in their avs as "Proudly burnin" and "Proudly Monkey".

I'm not sure when the "Proudly Christian" came along. I guess I was gone, but I obviously will not take part in stuff like that.

We have all changed since, and most of us have matured to a level of understanding.

I put Seventh in the most of us catagory, so I really do not understand why he still has that in his avatar...

I know what you mean. The box falls on his head, and he walks around with it on him like a skin, only its a brush. If you really want to do this, I would recommend using another model on top of the player, although that might get a little complicated.

Is this HL1? Why would you want to do this in HL1?

... I like to use trains for everything.

I would make an invisible train underneith your box, not very big, so when you pressed the button, the invisible train zooms away, and the box falls. This way, you could have a reset on the train, and you could push the button multiple times. If you are doing a puzzle map, like if you have to push that box to a certain place then press the button to see if you got it, this would work best.

What kind of sound are you using?

Is it a custom sound? If so, then you might have a sound formatting error.

Did you trigger your Ambient_Generic?

Usually problems with an Ambient_generic arize when you type in the correct path to the file. Do not use the browse thing to find the sound. I believe you have to type in the direction to the sound/ambience/sound.wav manually.

You also might have put your sound in the wrong folder.

Please give more information, and it would be a lot easier for me to help you ;)
