bah, i hate mapping for CS, its not the accuall mapping I hate though. I really hate how the few CS maps ive made might have been good, but when i went to some of the more CS oriented sites to submit them, i couldn't. plus I saw that they had hordes and hordes of crappy ass CS maps in there vaults, and knew mine would just end up in the fray.

accually, no, you can't do that is CS.
Yeh, HLDM and HL2DM are no way better when it comes to multiplayer, sure HL1 and HL2 make more versitile maps
maybe not, but thats why you have
Mods like:
sevn co-op
Team Fortress Classic
Natual Selection
(all of which I find as Better then CS in terms of longtime gameplay)
and a host of others
Plus you have great single player mods, and they continue to be made, even for Half-life 1.
