Nothing too innovative, just your average batch compiler. The .map viewer is a good idea, though I was expecting a render preview, not the text.
Implementing Rimrook's idea would absolutely kick ass. Even if that'd be hard as hell to code.

A monster is insta-gibbed only if you use stronger weapons on it, or if you keep shooting it after it's dead.
You can still gib it the ole' way with the crowbar though.

Are there any new models coming up to accomodate the changes?
Also, is the laster turret a constant beam or does it just spit fire?
They'll probably have custom models, same with sounds.
And you can alter the rate of fire of the laser turret via skill.cfg and ent properties, so it can do both split and constant beams.

Maybe -noskyfix would work? It disables light_enviroment being global, so you'd have to add multiple light_enviroments to light the map properly. That might disable the pointlight override.

Most of the UT weapons kicked ass. The Plasma gun was probably my fav.

My all-time-favourite though is probably the Terran's nuke from StarCraft. How I loved mashing everyone with that. :nuke:

That would make the competition more fair, though since we don't get more than 20 completed maps/mods per month (usually less), splitting it wouldn't be a good idea.

The idea sounds fair, though you have to agree, we don't get that many example maps to give them their own competition.
And letting example maps compete against completed projects in MotM wouldn't give them much of a chance in winning anything.
I think a Map Vault award would be much more apropriate for posting helpful example maps.

This was originally meant to be a TWHL3 feature, though due to the lack of mapping activity in the site - we thought of giving it a shot now.

The drill is simple. You vote for a map/mod, that has been posted in the Map Vault between 01-07-2007 and 31-07-2007. The 5 maps/mods, who recieve the most votes are given a poll, which decides the winner. The winner entry gets it's own page with an exclusive review in by the MotM team (kinda like a compo winner page), while the author recieves an official MotM reward the second TWHL3 arrives.

  • The entry must be posted in the Map Vault's completed maps section by it's respective author between 01-07-2007 and 31-07-2007.
  • You can only vote once (you can still replace your vote later on by re-voting)
  • You can't vote for a map/mod you've posted.
  • You can only vote for maps made for Half-Life/Half-Life 2, their official mods (HLDM/HL2DM, CS/CS:CZ/CS:S, DoD/DoD:S, TFC, BS, OpFor) and Spirit.
  • no kilboxez adn aim mpas omg lol
The voting will continue untill August 15th, so you've still got time to post something before July 31st and stand a chance in winning!

For starters - try at least learning the basics before you rush off remaking a fairly complex map like dust2.

Make sure you finish all the In the beginning tutorials first, since they teach you the very basics, that're needed for any mod.
Also, finishing tuts on ambience, lighting, texture aplication, texture lighting, atmosphere and clipping will help you a lot.
