trapt, lol.

It looks good to me, although you need to add more little things. I like the bench, and the fountain, but it needs more details. This is your "first wash" of this painting (Metaphor). Some cool lighting effects would really add a lot.

coolfat, why not just use the func_conveyer way? It may ruin r_speeds, but its an effective way to do it with the origional HL. I believe there is an advanced tutorial on it here.

Jahzel, the American flag is just symbolic. It represents our nation. What they mean when they say "We fought and died for that flag!", is that they fought and died for our nation, and our freedom. They really don't accually care about a piece of sheet with colors.

I personally have burned an American flag. It is respectful to our nation to burn an American flag if it gets dirty, after seperating the stars from the stripes first.

Welcome to TWHL!!!

Read the tutorial about posting here on TWHL before you do anything. I believe it is written by seventh (Seventh Monkey).

my advice to you:

1: Only put your best work in the completed section of the map vault.

2: Do not spam.

3: Do not insult anyone. It never gets anywhere good.

4: When you have a mapping question, use the search toolbar in the upper-right hand area. First, check the tutorials. Then, check the example maps. Then, check the forums. If you have still not found it, its safe to post in the general mapping questions area.

5: Map.

6: Have fun ;)

BTW, I'm just one of the regular members here, no-one special.

I have a C++ compiler for free. Hehehe... You can get cheap ones for free of the internet (Legally)

How could this take money to do?

You can get everything for free, compiler, graphics program, goldwave, whatever it may be. Thats how I do everything, lol.

every time someone says compo idea, I must bring back my winning post in the stupidest post compotition. This is the new compo idea.
an underground digger mabober that goes streaming down into a giant lake of lava, and is driven around on small falling rocks, bumping up and down, trying to find a way out when a lake is emptied out into the lava, which causes steam to shoot everywhere, making you shoot up with the pressure of the chemical reaction, up into the air where you start hurdling down toward earth at incredable speeds, so you press the eject button, but it is jammed so you do it manually, and then you find out you have no paracute, but a giant bird rescues you, but is actually trying to feed you to her young, so you kill the babies, who are really big, and the moma comes back and attacks, so you jump on its back and ride it over a big ocean, where it dies, and you fall down, but land on a whale, but sharks kill the whale and are moving in on you, so you shoot them, and try to swim back to shore when a dolphin saves you, but poltures kill the dolphin, so you shoot at them, but then the sharks come back and attack the poltures, so you swim to shore only to find out you are on a desert island, where you sit around and talk to a volly ball untill you starve.

Get a microphone and make your own. Its quite fun. There are great sound editing programs that you can use, like goldwave, to play around with the sounds.

Let me just say this,
There are many different aspects of being well rounded in the Half-Life mapping world:

Mapping
Moddeling
MODing
Coding
Sound
Texturing
Plotting (writing story-lines.)
and many more...

Its great to be well rounded with each. Its a good idea to get to know the basics of each of them, then you can choose your path, and follow it.

I bet you all that when half-life 2 comes out, it will be at least $60. Not sure what that converts to in whatever currency you guys use. I just know a lot about pricing, seeing that many people close to me, friends, have degrees in marketing. I talk to them a lot, so I basically know a lot about it, although I myself have not taken marketing courses.

you guys need more imagination.

I started on a map, but didn't finish it.

It was an electric fence that fell over in a map where Gordan is escaping from the g-man. It was in a desert, so when the electricity hit the sand, glass formed all over the area. some of it broke, and some of it just sat there. Either way, that canyon was a dangerous, slippery one.

I don't that viewing the process is a good idea, since most people want this map to be a suprize, and the effect will hopefully be that way to most people. A site is a great idea. Right now though, there is no need. A great way to interest people in this project is a site, all pretty with dogs and such, but, this a test project that seems to have taken a considerably long time to complete not even half the people interested. When we redo this project (Probably by then a map-pack for Half-Life 2), then we will do a site.

There is a way you can do this. As they said, have the backround move. The whole train should not move. The ground near the train moves, and has a trigger_hurt with the type of death as fall clicked. When someone joins, they could be in a helicopter of some sort, up in the sky, in a different section that the train. When they jump off the helicopter, they fall down, and land in some sort of water, or area, that does not harm the player. This would be on the train. From the helicopter, which is btw stationary, they could have a number of choices of where to jump from.

This is the best way I see this possible, whether it be CS, CT starting in helicopter and killing terrorists on the train. You really couldn't do it in a game like DM, cause people would camp and kill anyone coming onto the train. With teams, and many choices, one can actually get onto the train.

If you are going to modify the programming, which I know you're probably not, look at the splinter cell game for ideas. Its all about stealth.

you could set up a way for darkness to hide you from enemies, but it would probably take extensive c++ abilities.

There are two kinds of leaks, those that are caused by a brush error, i.e. a crack in the wall, and those caused by an entity outside of the map. Make sure none of your entities are outside of your map, and make sure no doors open so that they slide outside of the map.

If it is caused by a brush error:

Finding a leak, Bratty's guide:

way 1: Make a giant skybox around your map. A skybox is a big box of the SKY texture, hollowed out using the hollow tool. Make a bunch of light_environment entities outside of your map, but inside of the skybox, and make it a green icky color. Compile, and then walk around. If you see the green icky color anywhere, your leak way be in that area.

way 2: Make giant solid blocks on a section of your map. This should take up about %25 of your map. Compile. If there is still a leak, make the box bigger. Keep doing this til you have pin-pointed the leak out.

way 3: Start over! Once you have learned the fundementals of mapping, and know pretty much everything, don't try to debug your old ones, start over and make a great map to the best of your abilities.

Making it called "Red Planet" could have different meanings. One, because Mars is the red planet, and two, because there is lots of blood now that the aliens came.

call it "Red Planet", "Red Dust", or "Red Death"

whatever you do, stick with red. It really charaterizes the whole red planet thing.

A name is not that important, but the maps are.
