Anyway, I reinstalled Half-Life without adding the new DLLs, and it's still giving me these problems. It's the strangest thing, how it only happens with that one skybox, and only in certain maps. Ah well, I suppose I can live with it if nobody can figure it out.

Another possibility is that there's some incompatibility with the updated transparency DLL's I copied from Steam. I'll try replacing those with the old ones.

Dude... How could I have compiled it? IT'S AN OFFICIAL MAP. IT CAME WITH HALF-LIFE. You don't recognize it? It's right before the dam. :tired:

And yes, it does support OpenGL, just not too well, apparently.

Texture? It's a skybox, and I'm not having troubles with my own maps, it's the official ones.

Anyway, there's an update. It seems that some maps have this problem and others don't, it's really inconsistent.

Another update: I just loaded that same map again, and now it doesn't have that problem, but other maps do. This is the most inconsistent bug I've ever seen in Half-Life. :

It's funny, it only seems to be that skybox in particular, but it's not just that one map. I haven't checked all the skyboxes yet, though.

Recently, I purchased an old IBM laptop for basic stuff (internet, email, blah blah blah), and of course, HL mapping. This isn't actually a mapping related issue, but I figured someone else might have had the same problem at some point.

You see, this laptop has a really old 16 MB video card, and there are several problems with it, but most annoyingly, skyboxes render really strangely. Check it out:
User posted image
The video card has the newest drivers installed, and Half-Life has the most recent updates. Anyone know what's going on?

It's possible it's from texture filtering, but since sprites don't tile like textures do, it wouldn't make sense if it was bleeding over from the bottom like it does with "{" invisible textures.

Elon, you're a good mapper, but you seriously need to lighten up some. Besides that, if Trapt was 2 and already in first grade, he would be doing pretty good, no? ;)

I like Bratty's answer better too, since it was far more correct. As I've explained before, cutting up a single brush into a bunch of pieces doesn't make any difference once compiled, because it just melds them into one face, as long as all the textures are aligned together.

I'm not entirely sure, but there may be a limit to the number of letters in a WAD name. The one you have is pretty damn long. I'd shorten it to something like "mtlblutex", if I were you.

Ummm... It depends what you mean. I don't map for HL2, but I can guarantee you this isn't going to be enough information for anyone to work with. Describe in more detail what it is that you need to know, and you'll either get linked to a tutorial by one of our many irate members, or someone will be kind enough to help you.

But, hard? Well, yeah, mapping is kinda that way at first.

Planning ahead, eh? ;)

I'd suggest you make it more obvious what you're supposed to be doing. I had no idea what was happening in the first one, so I just stumbled about, hitting/using/shooting everything in sight. There was next to no direction, and while free exploration is good, it's was a little overdone here.

Well, yeah, I saw that one small bit of the pond, and I thought it might be raining, but it's not all that noticeable. I wouldn't associate that picture with a water themed map if it wasn't in this thread. Also, the skybox is the default desert, and there ain't no rain clouds in that sky.

I like it, but that's not saying much, considering the original was a steaming pile of shit. Looked like a friggin' toy gun, and a really wimpy one. The sounds were even worse, so I'd replace those, too.

Hell, all the weapons in HL2 felt shitty to me, except for the Pulse Rifle and maybe the shotgun.

A1: My best guess: "G'morning Mr. Freeman. We had a system crash about 20 minutes ago, and I'm still trying find all my files. Just one of those days I guess. I think they're waiting for you down in the test chamber too, so you'd better get your suit on and head there." I know the ending is wrong.

A2: Lame/retarded question.

A3: "come in, cooper. Do you read? Forget about Freeman, we're abandoning the base, and commencing air strikes. If you have any last bomb targets, mark them on the tactical map, and get the hell out of there. I repeat, we're abandoning the base."

A4: I'm not typing that again.

A5: Lame/retarded question.

Thank Luke. He directed me to it, and I'd been looking for something like it for a long time. However, it's brand new (forty-something members), and it almost looks like it was designed by the same person that made imageshare.co.nz, which got fuxed by hackers and lost all its data.

P.S.

Actually, don't thank Luke, he's an ass.

Add either halflife.wad or zhlt.wad (which came with your download of ZHLT) to the the WAD list in hammer. Both of those have it in them, but if you just want to use the CS textures, I'd go for zhlt.wad, because it just has the tool textures, and it won't fill your texture browser with possibly unneeded ones up like halflife.wad will.

A2: Two, I think. I know for sure two are sitting at a table, but I'm not sure they're both eating pizza.

A3: None

A4: If I remember correctly, it's a blowtorch guy and a medic.

A5: No idea, but I might guess somewhere between 4 and 6.

A6: .357 Magnum.
