It sounds like maybe you placed it inside a wall, although in all my time mapping I, have never encountered this, or even heard of anyone encountering it.

Oh... Wait, I got totally confused back there. Never mind about what I said. Yes, c3a2 is Lambda Core. For some reason that I can't possibly explain, I thought you were saying that the F-16 was in Lambda Core.

I considered that he could have been being sarcastic ("Lambda Core" is set entirely underground), but decided it was worth being made the fool as long as nobody else was mistaken by it.

Yes, "Surface Tension" basically starts at the dam, although there's a small map before it, and it continues on all the way through some desert areas, the cliffside, and some military establishments, until you get to "Forget About Freeman!", which shortly takes you to the Lambda Complex.

...

I'm steadily working on my chapter, and if it doesn't get released, I'm gonna be pissed. Really. Pissed. It's been some pretty hard, yet interesting work thus far, and I'm not about to see it all go to waste.

That's not to say I'd worry too much about that happening. I'm constantly in contact with The Hunter, and he appears to be working as diligently as any. If anything is dead, it's the rest of the team's inspiration to map. I swear, it doesn't look like anybody but me, Hunter, and ChickenFist have turned out anything new since 2005. That's the real problem, in my opinion.

So if necessary, reassign some of the positions, but for heavens sake, do not let the first mod team I've worked with give up.

And coldfeet, your position was taken over by ChickenFist long ago. I don't think it's needed unless he too dies on us (for the second time.)

As far as I know, you use the speaker entity to play them, and whatever is spoken is set up in sentences.txt, just like you use scripted_sentences. If I remember correctly, the speaker sounds are all in the VOX folder in the PAK or GCF file.

Look here for more info.

And remember, you can't distribute your sentences.txt with a multiplayer map, because it'll override the one that's already there, and could mess some stuff up. For these circumstances, I'd suggest setting up a bunch of ambient_generics and a multi_manager to play them in order. That way, it can be localized too.

No Dave, you suck. And I wouldn't exactly call software pirating stealing if you never could have afforded the software in the first place. That's my uneducated opinion, anyway. Plus, it's my knowledge that nobody outside of schools or large companies actually owns a legit copy of Photoshop. :P

I'd recommend decompiling that map and using whatever fragmented brushwork that's still there as a template, and then build yours from scratch around it. Don't stick to the original design too closely, because you'll just end up with off-grid vertexes.

If you do it this way, not only will you feel better about actually having made it yourself, but you won't have to credit anyone else for their prefab. :)

Yay, reviving this crap thread.

I'm really starting to agree with Orpheus about having general map screens under 80 KB (I just tried it out with PSP 10, and it can work amazingly well), but when an image needs to have readable text, like in desktop screens, I believe this is the wrong approach to have. For those circumstances, I'd go for a little under 150 KB.

I wouldn't use sprites to make shrubbery and plants, unless it's for really small things like weeds and grassy patches. They look really horrible for large objects, and we don't live in the Doom era any more, so it's a bit strange to see them. Instead, I'd use models for plants, which are actually quite easy to find, unlike sprites.

So, I'd tell you to check out DoenerKing for a good source of models, but it seems that website is under construction or something. Since there's not too many other options at the moment, I'd recommend you check out Day of Defeat's GCF, as it has a ton of plants in it.

I agree that headphones can offer much better sound quality, and a much better experience overall, but I'm still not inclined to use them. For one thing, they block everything out around me, so I can't tell if somebody is trying to talk to me or get my attention. I used to use them exclusively (that's all I had), but they hurt my ears after an hour or two, and nobody else could listen to stuff if I needed them to, so it was a real pain.

I now use them occasionally, like when it's really late and I don't want to wake anybody up, but I still find my surround sound system to be superior for my needs.

Yes, I'm pretty sure it has to be "Red: 0, Green: 0, Blue: 255" for it to work. At least, that's how I've always done it and seen it done.

Yes, although you do have the option of changing the background color in HLMV, which would make it far easier to distinguish the the black in the model from the background.

And, you know, nothing is better than seeing it in a map.
