Yeah, you might try looking in the "OUT" texture set. I think there's this one concrete yellow texture in there that looks worn out and realistic.

You're right. And if I see you stealing any kind of work, you'll soon find me stalking you, and eventually I'll behead you and post a picture of it in this very thread as a warning to all other inspirationally challenged mappers. Yeah.

in bombtarget related surface extents... Post #211492
Smart-ass me made the bombtargets completely square-ish, without bothering about the rotated boxes in the bombsite that then kind of cut the bombtarget in masses of strange angles.
If I understand what you're talking about, then you're wrong. Whether you had rotated boxes or not, they wouldn't intersect with your bombsite brush in such a way that they would break it up, because they're brush-based entities, not world brushes. They'd still intersect, but they wouldn't be broken into a bunch of pieces.

in bombtarget related surface extents... Post #211481
If I remember correctly (I haven't mapped for CS in ages) the bomb targets are brush based, which means that there's some problem with the brush you're using for it. It's probably some kind of invalid shape that it has. Use "check for problems" and see if there's anything in there about it.

Yeah, you're right. Like, if you were making a crate, and you wanted the top and the bottom of it to be textured differently from the rest, you could apply one texture to those faces, and then use the shift+ctrl+left-click technique to select the rest of the faces. Another example would be to stagger textures across faces.

Okay, so I can't really see how you could get much use out of this, but it is kinda neat.

Hey... That's odd. Maybe I just got in the habit of using shift+ctrl+left-click all the time, in which case what I described would happen. Silly me.

in GoldSource Mapping Tips Post #211385
Interestingly, using the method that Muzzle described actually doesn't select all the faces automatically, it just reverses whatever mode of selection they were currently in. So if you had any individual faces selected before you shift+left clicked the brush, those faces would then be deselected, and all the previously deselected faces would be selected. It can be pretty frustrating, at times.

There's also that jeep/truck thing that doesn't resemble any real military vehicle... Then again, if we're going to be detailing stuff, we can always just use other textures that weren't originally used for cars, right? I mean, handles and door outlines are like the only things you gain by using those prefab car textures. That, and a highly reduced polygon count, which wouldn't be an incentive for this application.

However, it should be known I'm not entering this minicompo. I just have way too many other projects to work on, and I even promised to make a map for the official TWHL competition. :zonked:

In an interview with Valve in PC Gamer, it seems like they said Vista would do nothing but make their job harder, but that may have been an entirely different topic... I'll look that up.

In any case, I can't see Valve ditching half their user base by making Steam (or even one engine) incompatible with older operating systems. I think Steam still works with Windows 98, doesn't it?

It's not really that expensive. Home premium is only $119.99 on Newegg, which is hardly more than what I payed for my copy of XP Home Edition.

Still though, I'm not getting Vista any time soon. Its new UI is just ugly, it's all bloated, and it doesn't have any features that I care about. That's right, I DON'T NEED SEE-THROUGH FOLDER WINDOWS!!11! So I'll just wait until they release the inevitable second service pack. By that time, maybe I'll even have a DX10 compatible card.

in 6-D : A Half-Life Puzzle Mod [WIP] Post #211073
No, 3ds Max is not a free program, in fact it's very far from it. Max is the most commonly used for game development, and that's what all the Half-Life models were made in, so it's probably easier to work with from that standpoint. It's really intended as professional-grade software, which is why it's so damn expensive.

in Level_change problem (srsly) Post #211046
For best results, always copy the previous area where the level change was into the new map, right along with the info_landmark and trigger_levelchange, so it'll be lined up perfectly. Otherwise, it can be really really hard to get them set up right.

When you say you flipped, do you mean you used the manual rotation tool (in the 2d views), or something else? Because if you just rotated it, there's no way you can align two brushes correctly at odd angles. If you didn't do anything wrong though, it's probably just some weird clipping problem, and you should upload it to the Problem Maps section of the map vault.

By the way, is this for Half-Life or Half-Life 2?

If your smart, and don't live in the US, order games off a website.
So if you live in the U.S., you're not smart? Or should you only order games off websites if you don't live in the U.S.? Or are games so cheap in the U.S., you shouldn't even bother? The mind boggles.

Yeah, but barely, and its graphics and framerate sucked. Half-Life 2: Orange is going to include graphical upgrades for HL2 (from what I hear), and episodes 1-2. Those two games have tremendously updated graphics compared to the original HL2

i'm dissapointed HL2 Black/Orange isn't coming to the Wii.
I'm pretty sure the Wii wouldn't even be able to run that.

Yeah, it's too bad. Nobody seems take Nintendo consoles seriously anymore, so they end up being systems populated by some good Nintendo games, a couple lame ports, and kiddie games. Although this may not seem the case at the moment, with this new console just released, it's likely the games will be even more kid-oriented the older it gets.

60 dollar games on the other consoles are also completely unnecessary. Games are still being developed on the PC that have huge development costs, and we aren't made to pay 10 dollars more than normal. However, I always just wait until the price drops to around 30 to buy any game. I honestly don't even think most are worth 50, although I'll pay that much if I want the game enough (like when HL2 came out).
