Or make it seamless with an image editing program, if you know how to do that.
You may also want to scale the texture up a lil bit, rotate it, so that the pattern would be less noticeable. :)

Yea, Seventh's right..
Imo, all of them Black Mesa-ish mods kinds suck. Even Azure sheep (which is a great, big mod with new wpns, enemies, 11 chapters, lots of maps with good architecture) got boring after the 3rd chapter.
Believe me - there are thousands of such mods. I wanted to make something black-mesa-ish myself when I was a starting mapper, but I soom realised that this won't be original.

If you wanna make such a mod and expect ppl to play it - it has to be something really special, because the whole Half-Life-disaster-aliens vs. grunts vs. gordon theme just isn't original and gets boring pretty soon.

Anyways - it you're making it - good luck.. :)

Well it's still not what i'm looking for.
To make this more understandable - I need to read .pak files in text format (notepad, for e.g).
I need to know, if the wav files stored in it aren't compressed or changed, I need to know, the process. How the .pak is made from the technical side
I tried emailing the creator of pak explorer, but I bet that the email is old and unused.. :
Any more ideas?

For a null texture you will need:
1. Any kind of image, size doesn't matter as longm as it divides by 16.
2. The textures' name has to be "null"

That's it. It's the name that matters, not the texture.. :)
You can rename any texture to null and it will work as one.

Trust me, if you start making such complex shapes brush by brush - you'll:

a) Spend days on it.
b) Spend even more days on it, trying to get rid of invalid brushes, coplanar planes, and other shit.
c) Spend lots of time compiling.
d) Won't be satisfied by the result, cause it will look like crap, because of the crappy shadows and weird lighting.

If you texture it like a sphere it will:

a) Look like crap
b) Look unrealistic
c) Ruin the image of your map, because it's the logo.

Modelling:

a) You'll need ~1-2 days to find the right tuts, learn modelling it.
b) You'll need quite an amount of time to finish the model, compile it, place it right in your map
c) The result will be awesome.

Your choice.. :)

halflife.wad -> SKY

Try the texture filter in hammer to find it.

The SKY texture is just a texture for the engine to understand that there will be sky there.

Theres a tutorial on sky making...
"Adding skies", if I recall it right..
Search the tuts and if you don't find your answer, ask it in the forums.. :)

Set the max.viewable distance to something bigger if your map is very big and open.. If the objects vanish in a bigger distance - that's the problem.

Yea, rowley is good at skies.. All I did was copy+paste the city1 sky buildings on the xen sky, blur them a lil, adjust brightness, contrast.
I'll try to do something with lighting.. :)

@Seventh: I know it's simple.
Heres an example:

PACK @ blahblahblah
blah.txt ų d~ūwxųw˙˙˙˙?ų  x � ?ī� ?Ų� 


This .pak file is made with pak explorer, opened with notepad. It has 1 .txt file named "blah", which has "blahblahblah" in it.
The things I don't understand is the array of those mixed up symbols in the end of the file.

Although I'll try make somethin out from that code, it's pretty much like C++.. :)

@m0p: Yea, I thought they were like .zip files too, I tried comparing a .zip and a .pak with the same file in them, but they weren't the same.

I found some source code for an app that opens .pak files. That's great, just that the example app doesn't openplay sound files

I was workin on my Sentences.txt editor, and I thought that it would be really cool, if it could read sound files from .pak files and make sounds from them. Like a mini .pak explorer..

Now the big problem is:
How do I read .pak files thru notepad or any other text editor?
What are the specialities of the file?
If you know any site or other source of explanation, please let me know.

I tired googling, but found nothing on it.. :(
I tried examining the file myself, but it wasn't clear enough.

Any ideas? :)
