in Missing Fonts.wad File?!?! Post #40946
As much as you hate Steam, you'll have to switch over sometime to use multiplay and get HL2 updates. Valve and Sierra (which is closing :( .) are phasing out the WON servers as summer ends.

I'd send you the file right now, but its 4:35 AM where I am and I really need to get to bed or im gonna fall asleep on my keyboard again. (And it hurts!)

The file is relatively small, so if you don't have it in the morning, I'll send it to you.

It is. I've had 2 years experience mapping in engines that use that type of geometry, like RED, and I opened UnrealEd and I was floored. It's incredible and complex.

Although the Special DVD edition for the same price as the CD one comes with hours of editing tutorials, so one weekend, I'm gonna make some popcorn, pop in the DVD and learn how to do it. It came with a free version of Maya for non-commercial usage, though, which is handy and can do pretty much everything the commercial version can. Maybe one day I'll take up Modeling....but I doubt it.

The thing about Unreal levels is you have these things called 'Static Meshes' which are complex models, pre-made and textured which you have to use to make up the architecture, so the only things you really have to do with brushes are the base work, and then you have to spend hours loading and browsing through the meshes and placing them in your level. It kind of ruins the fun of mapping for me, as the Mapper has to essentially model his level. Which is why I'm staying with Half-Life2 and Source, unless those folks at Epic offer me a job :P .

Oh yes, and those solid world engines like Unreal and RF involve carving for almost every function, as you carve out of a big block instead of building in the void. And the forced view controls are horrible, you have to click-drag and use the mouse only for navigation, though people who use Milkshape and 3d programs will be used to it.

But that's enough on Unreal mapping for now. I'm only inviting myself to flames :P.

I think Pointfile is the most effective and less time-consuming than the others. The 'Big Block' Method just takes way too long, as for cordoning off areas and recompiling. Skyboxing will create lag and more compile time.

Correct.

No, although they were about 75% done with the port when they cancelled it. You could probably run VirtualPC with Windows on it and run it, although it would probably be laggy.

If people spend more time on their maps, instead of releasing versions that look like they are unfinished, or if you state it is unfinished and you want opinions, then they're bound to get more support and help than placing something in Completed maps that looks like it belongs elsewhere.

It's called the person's opinion. If I don't like a map, I have every right to say so. If someone is going to go "Oh my god, RabidMonkey777 hated this map, so I hate it too!" and not download it, then they need to learn to think for themselves.

2-Bacon. Mmm....bacon.
3-There are exactly 27 airports on all desert islands. It's standard protocol, everyone should know that.
4-Buzz, duh!
5-None of the above. You'd likely find me in the castle, running around blindly in a white sheet and chains going 'Get the hell out of my castle, fools! It's mine! All mine!'
6- It's illegal to drive into lakes. The car engine would melt all the ice and create a giant flood and the world would be doomed because of you.
7-132 exactly.
8- Chocolate is equivalent to 102, but only if C>5, which means MC*5 to the third power of 42 equals 102.
9-9, but only if I try and light them all first.
10- Opera.

As for the button that when pressed makes things appear, a combination of env_renders with the func_button will work. I know there are env_render tutorials around, google em.

In all the time I used it, it never had a system-caused crash, it only froze due to software bugs, mostly on apps I wrote...although Baldur's Gate had a tendency to lag out and die each time I played. A very stable OS. It has cool names, too :P . Panther, Jaguar, and (soon to be) Tiger. Beats 'Longhorn' or 'XP' or '2000 Professional', if you ask me.

Exactly. What's the deal with Dells sucking so bad? I just recently purchased one, and it was about 500 dollars cheaper than a comparable one with about .2ghz more speed on it's processor. Whoop de doo. I nabbed myself a 3.2 P4, 120gb Hard drive, 1gb ram, GeForce 5200fx (meh) and a damn fast CDRW, DVD drive, and some applications. Not bad for $1300.
Yet my retarded math teachers can't do the f@#!ing math and find the difference in the costs, and buy the Freaking better computer.
Retards.
They bought the better computer. I own both a Mac and Windows computer, and these days it seems like everyone who talks about Mac computers says something equivalent to, or uses bits of the following phrase: "OMG MAC SUCKS!!!! THEY ARE SLOW AND THEY SUCK BECAUSE THEY HAVE 1GHZ PROCESSORS!! AND THEY COST 2000$$!!!"

Learn about the machine before you post, please, is what I say to anyone who uses that. Their CPU Architecture is designed differently from Windows, enabling them to run almost as fast as todays latest Pentium, at 1 or so GhZ. Apple includes some really nice and functional programs with their Operating Systems, including a full SDK and Code editors, nice accessories, and many popular games are on it, including Dungeon Siege, Blizzard's games, the Unreal series, Rise of Nations, Baldur's Gate, and many other games and Mac-exclusive ones. And, newer Macs such as the E-mac, laptops, and the iMac are around $1,500-$1,700, around the price you'd pay for a decent Windows machine.

And yes, when do Microsoft manufacture PCs?
