More ram couldnt hurt. I CONSTANTLY have Steam and Firefox open. Not to mention Trillian, Windows media player, Hammer... With all that open i only use 8% of my computer. (my RAM usage idles at 48% but that's Vista for ya) Steam REALLY isnt all that bad, but Valve really could try to fix the offline mode deal.
Happens to you all the time? This is the first time in almost 4 years for me. And yes, as soon as i can get an external HD to back up my files, I'm going to downgrade.
Basically wipe the entire hard drive, then install XP fresh.
Ok i got it. You dont need to have clip brushes to enclose players from the outside of the map. Players can't walk through the sky anyway. And as for your "tag", you can just stick it in a hollowed out part of the floor. Someone will eventually find it.
I'll draw up a picture or suttin hold on. wait for the edit.
Hmm... Did you try nulling the back of the transparent texture? Or The top of the brush the forest texture is on? I take it the forest doesn't need to be extremely detailed so try making it only 1 or 2 units wide.
If not, post it in the problem vault. I ain't doing anything tonight
The sky brush acts like a regular brush, only it shows the sky at any given point in a map. If you have a random sky brush in your map, you'll see the sky through that brush.
Don't ever surround your map completely with a skybox, just build the sky texture straight up from the surrounding walls of your map to a certain height, then make a flat piece on top to seal in the world form the void.
And making a huge skybox as compared to a small skybox doesn't make as much of a difference as you think. In-fact it's barely noticeable. And it's still a bad practice.
And the sky brush has to touch the other brushes. (Remember you have to seal off the level from the void. )
K so i opened hammer to work on my minicompo map, and i cant select anything at all. Its stuck in camera view basically. I'd select the select tool, and when i go to select something in the 3-d view, it doesnt select, but the cursor jumps to the middle of the screen and is in camera mode WHILE i'm still in selection mode. Same thing happens with the entity tool, and create block tool. None of the 2-d Views respond either. All i can do is click and drag my view.
I'm working on this project map. It's kinda doom themed. Basically: kill a bunch of stuff >> get ammo or a gun >> door opens >> repeat process.
So I have 24 zombies in a room that are split up into groups of 6. Each one of them has a trigger target and condition. Example: On death>>trigger zombie1. Zombie1 being a multisource. So there are 4 multisources (one for each group of zombies) that each trigger another multisource, which then triggers a multi_manager to open a door.
So i have a couple questions:
1) Why is it that when i dont kill all the zombies my door still sometimes opens? 2) What's the limit for # of entities triggering a multisource? 3) Am i doing this the hard way?
Rimrook, you are fuckin awesome. Now i have like 4 reasons to downgrade from Vista to XP. So imma do that now.... Well.. i need an external HD so i can transfer all my files, then im wiping my harddrive and installing XP on it and stuff.
Yeah. This stuff is great! A lot of reading, but it goes quick and is very VERY helpful/interesting.
