After what would have to be a year of development, Venetia is still progressing. I can say that's it's closer to being finished than it's ever been, which is great.

I'm currently doing a HUGE optimisation run. The last build was pretty laggy in places (dropped down to 28fps in some areas for reasons I cannot understand at the moment). Glview.exe has been my good friend in this long and ardous process. Right now, I'm giving Venetia a proper skybox (rather than cordon compiling it) so hopefully that'll boost the FPS up a little. Might do a normal compile too to see what type of performance we get. Hopefully it'll be good enough for me to finish detailing the map...

So. News.

For one, my newly designed website will be up and running soon. Comments toward the beta version of it have been mixed, but I quite like the look of it, so I doubt I'll be changing it anytime soon.

Venetia marches on, albeit at a crippled pace. I'm finding it hard to believe that I've been working on this bloody map for almost a year now and I still haven't released it. Ah well, good things take time as they say (which makes me wonder why my map is taking so much time). A heads-up: there will be another beta test soon to test out some minor changes in the map. Stay tuned on IRC for details.

Now for Uni: four assignments due in 2-3 weeks. Am I screwed? You betcha.

Venetia is going swell at the moment. Here's a delightfully large screen showing the new light_env and skybox: http://img.photoamp.com/i/v4TjVfv.jpg

Well, it's over for Australia. Knocked out of the World Cup as a result of some truly shoddy refereeing. I don't think any Italian (even the most stubborn, and yes I have Italian heritage so I can say that) can say that the penalty was deserved (nor was Italy's redcard for that matter).

Australia should've won that match. They had the game under their control, they just didn't have enough cracks at goals. I am certain that if the game went into extra time, they would've done it. To get a penalty against in the the dying seconds is incredibly cruel.

Which brings me to my next point: why aren't there four linesmen? How the hell is one linesman supposed to see right over to the over side of the pitch?

Irrespective of these points, Australia have pretty much won the World Cup. They won it by getting in to it, they won by scoring not 1, not 2, but 3 goals against Japan, they won it by advancing to the final 16 and they won it for putting up a tremoundous game of Football against Italy. Congratulations to the Socceroos: you bloody well deserve it!
