JeffMOD was in an earthquake.
So, while I was practicing using the GECK, (Fallout 3's level editor) Everything started shaking. Now, occasionally I do this involuntarily, but it wasn't just a twitch in my leg or something similar, it was... everything. The monitor, the desk, you name it. After it stopped, I saved, turned off the computer just to be safe, and went out to ask my mom if she felt it. Well, she didn't but my father did. I mentioned how it may have been an earthquake- after all, they're always happening, they just usually aren't at a magnitude that we can feel. A while later, my dad came in and told me that my grandmother (who lives next door in an attached house/apartment) received a phone call from someone in the town asking if she had felt it. The news tonight confirmed it again.
It wasn't as severe here as the article describes, but it is pretty cool to have experienced it.

It's fixed. Thank god. DLC works, game works, and I'm back to kicking arse in the capital wasteland.
PREVIOUS JOURNAL CONTENTS:
That's it. I can't do a thing to fix this without xlive.dll. The patch itself won't work with Vanilla Fallout 3 unless there's xlive.dll, the DLC won't work unless there's xlive.dll, and there's NO BLOODY XLIVE.DLL IN EITHER OF THE GOTY DISKS!
Someone, please PM me with a copy of xlive.dll from the latest version (1.7) of Fallout 3, and tell me where to put it. I've tried everything else I can think of, all the suggestions I've been given, and google doesn't yield anything but 'update the game'
This pisses me off. Please, someone get me that dll.

It's been days since my father left the safety of Vault 101. Days since I left the vault to find him. Before, I had never laid a hand on anyone, except Butch and his gang. But now people are dropping like flies around me. I've had Radiation sickness, explored a raider filled store, and defused a nuclear bomb. But where is my father? Where is James?

Yeah, so JeffMOD has Fallout 3. It's good so far- I actually managed to get the GoTY version, so I have all the DLC content on a second disk. Can't wait to actually get deep into the game.
My only complaint is that my character doesn't really look like me. I was never good at creating my own face from memory... And it doesn't help that the game doesn't have my hairstyle.

Anyway, I'm happy. I have a game I've wanted for about a year now. Finally got off my arse, did some research, and went out and bought it.
Bow-wow.

So today we went up to the cottage to open it up, get the dock back where it's supposed to be (but the water level was too low, so we just tied it up nearby) and get water flowing in the pipes.
The thing I hate about the cottage is all the bugs- and the repellent didn't work too well. So, I've devised the JeffMOD Bug Repellent Rating System, or JBRRS. Here's the breakdown of the levels or effectiveness:

100% Effective: Experimental repellent issued to US soldiers in the Civil War of Minnesota. Of 2143.

Fairly Effective: Good for yard work for an extended period of time. If you don't mind the taste of bugs. RARE ITEM

Semi-Effective: You will experience blood loss, but it won't be fatal if you're only out for under 3 hours.

Barely Effective: Users may experience fatal or near fatal blood loss. COMMON ITEM

Non-Effective: Users may become the next Jimmy Hoffa, In terms of visibility.

Colony 42 may take a while to finish be canceled soon.
There are a few reasons for this.
1) I've moved to source. It's harder to map for GS once you've made maps with shaders and physics. I've already complained about this in a previous journal.
2) I'm getting bored of the setting of the mod. I could change it up a bit, but, see 1).

I've already started and scrapped 2-3 other versions of this mod, and I want to finally release it... but it may take a while.

My computer is now officially finished!
I've gotten my image manipulation programs, Firefox, Steam, Steam games, etc. Installed.
It's nice to play on a computer that you put your sweat, (figuratively) tears, (figuratively) and blood (literally :|) into.
And the advanced shaders in Source working like they're supposed to doesn't hurt, either.

Brb, Half-life & HL2 play-through.

EDIT: Tower is put together. Too tired to test it out and get it running tonight. I only had a few hitches, all of which are fixed (except for a mis-calculation in where the ports on the graphics card went, but that was dust-proofed by some tape, so no harm done.)
Can't wait to boot up HL+HL2 on it :)

Original post:
Components for my computer arrived today.
Looking forward to putting it together later.

Don't you love technology and how it's always improving?
During christmas break, my brother helped me pick out computer parts from the website of a local-ish store. Today, I went to get the parts we had decided on.
Among other things (the processor and graphics card were both no longer being sold, so they got upgrades too), The cashier upgraded my choice of a 500GB HDD to a 1TB HDD. For 49 cents less.

I've also picked out a laser mouse to replace my old, scroll-wheel-malfunctioning ball mouse. Once everything arrives, I'll have to find a use for the 7 extra buttons. I'm thinking console commands in source.

TL/DR: Terrabyte HDD is cheaper than 500GB, My days of shooting windows with RPGs are soon to be over.

It's not Gmod 10, so don't expect me to drop in on anyone's server or anything, but it works, since I modded out the HL2DM cache. (Too damn lazy to install it, and who needs the MP options anyway)

Comics, here I come!
:D

It's getting harder and harder to work on Colony 42.
One of the reasons is the move to source- it's easier and funner to map for source than GS.
Another is that I don't have a team. There's no coder to give me something cool to implement (not that I need anything but what I have) No other mappers to work on other areas and spur me to best them...
And then there's the tweaking. When I'm stuck on something that I have to tweak endlessly, like running water, I lose the will to map because there's no real progress- just the same rooms, nothing new and interesting to see and test.

tl/dr: JeffMOD complains about "mapper's block"

I would like to take a moment to write about a certain type of person that really bothers me.
A type of person that I, for lack of a better term that doesn't involve copious amounts of swearing, call idiots.
History has been plauged by these people; Hitler, the KKK, a suprisingly large amount of people in my school. They, suprisingly, have a thought process. It goes like this:
This person is different > I don't like this person > Since I don't like them, they're inferior > Since they're inferior, I can do whatever I want to them.
Frankly, I'm tired of dealing with them, tired of hearing about things they've done, and it has to stop.
In the event of alien contact, how will we be able to deal with it, when we can't even get along with others in our race? If someone with a different nationality, skin colour, customs, or way of thinking can't be treated with an equal amount of respect, how could we possibly do that with an entirely different species from another planet/dimension?

Yes, it's more of a sore spot for me, because I'm one of the "different people", being a computer nerd in a school populated by computer illiterate people. But it's a valid problem, and one humanity had better sort out soon, or nothing will improve for us.

Thanks for your time.

I went hunting with my pal Mike today. We had a pretty good time.
First, we gathered up all the equipment we needed. It wasn't much, but we almost ran out of ammo by the time the day was done.

We found a nice spot to wait for something to come along, and Mike decided he wanted his picture taken with everything.

We got a few small things, but eventually managed to bag this bad boy:

Bugger took almost all the ammo we had to bring down, but it was worth it.
It was good day.

Half-life: Guard Duty has finally come to an end. I hope you liked it. Please, give comments and feedback.
I've been thinking of posting it on a fan-fiction site, as well. I'd like to know what you think about that.

For those of you who haven't read it, or didn't get a chance to read the last chapter yet,

Thanks for reading.

You may not be seeing much of me for a while.
The reason? I'm getting highspeed.
Now, you might be thinking "That's great, JeffMOD, but why would that stop you from coming here?" The answer is because it's a "mobile internet stick" designed for laptops, and to supplement a highspeed connection at home.
The usage limit is 512MB a month.
And the dialup, which is unlimited, is going to be canceled.
It's not like I have much of a choice, a 3 year contract was signed while I was at school.
What's this mean for me? Rationing of my browsing, and faster video load times and download speeds. Not that I can make too much use of them without torrents to pause downloads so I don't deplete my monthly usage.
:(

I love the citizens from HL2.
Case in point; I heard the following exchange from the medics in my squad:
Female medic: When this is all over, I'm gonna... Who am I kidding?
Male medic: What am I supposed to do about it?
At this point, I looked between them a couple times and used the male medic.
Male medic: Whoa, deja vu.

Anyone have any funnier conversations between citizens?
