I've been thinking of retooling the predisaster maps in Colony 42, so the detail quality is more constant. Feel free to post any ideas, as I will be making the levels a bit larger to increase immersion.

Last proper day of School. I have the weekend to study, two exams Monday, and I'm free. (The other two classes from this semester had a sumitive project and two-booklet exam in class, respectively.)
Can't wait until I can spend all day every day mapping.

I think I just witnessed the begining of a drug bust in my hometown.
My mom, a guy from my confirmation class, and I stopped at an intersection near a two storey plaster (I think) building, and there was an unmarked dark green van in front. For some reason, I instinctively turned my head towards it and saw some guys in dark, unmarked SWAT-like uniforms. My first thought was 'Bomb squad', then some sort of grenade went off. I think it was a tear gas grenade, because I saw no black smoke, no fire, and I wasn't affected by an after-image of the blast, but my mom says she saw some 'phosphorescent' blast in there, so I dunno what it was. Anyway, then all the guys started yelling 'Go, go go!' and rushing into the building, just like in the movies, tv, and video games. Then my mom drove off, which was a good idea, just in case things got ugly. I swear this is all true, and I'll report back if there's anything about it on the news tommorow night.

WARNING: RANT.
You know what I hate about HL modeling? It's illogical and overly complicated. Every model has different bones and submodels, and there's no way to turn one NPC into another without renaming bones. It should work like this for all models:
1. ONE body, no two bodies like in Op4, the backpack attachments go in a category below.
2. Heads. No limit, but all the same thing, just heads, no arms or anything.
3. Weapons. This includes barney's guns, the Hgrunt's weapons, and the scientist's needle.
4. Extra submodels/acessories. Op4 backpack and anything a mod's npc might need.
5. ALL THE SAME BONES FOR HUMAN MODELS!!!!
If I want an Op4 medic mesh on a scientist model, I should be able to do it without pain, if I want a Female assasin mesh on barney, I should be able to do it, and there should be a way to tell milkshape and other softwares to ignore bones in the meshes, just for things like the example directly above.
Now, doesn't that sound easier?

Goldeneye fail.
Today I was playing runway with the basic cheats, invincibility, all weapons, infinite ammo, and I was on runway, for the sole purpose of racking up the kills. I decided to run into the builing where you get the plane key, and hide there to wait for soldiers to spawn. When I opened the door again, there was a good crowd waiting for me, so I tried it again after killing them all, but the soldiers started coming in the building, so I had the bright idea of blocking the door with the tank. The first time it blocked my entry from the top of the tank, so I backed it up ever so slightly and crouched in. It kept all but one of the soldiers out, but the tank made it so I could just wedge the door open enough to barely see out, and I could'nt get out. Needless to say, I was trapped and had to abort mission. Try it yourself, there's no way out.

It's a good thing FGD files are so easy to work with...
You know how the default HL FGD for Hammer 3.5 has model support for most things, exept monster_barney_dead and monster_hevsuit_dead?
I fixed barney in my HL FGD, Spirit FGD, and the one for my next, secret, project. Here's the code for HL:

Just copy and paste that sucker over the entry for monster_barney_dead and save! Now you can pose your dead barneys accuratley and with other objects, such as guns.
(If you haven't done this already) It's very useful, and HEVsuit_dead is next... If you want, I could post that as well...

As I was playing The Specialists, I thought to myself "I should make a TS map after Colony 42, go back to my roots, back when I did'nt have a SP FGD..." Then I realized that I suck at MP mapping. D:

I'd post my TS maps, but they were all crappy, not worth the compiles, and I deleted them out of shame...

If I was only better at MP... Oh well...

Just got the Decay PC port... Man is it frustarating. I'm on the fourth/fifth level, and I got plowed down by controllers. On the map before that, I got stuck on the minecart puzzle, then killed by vorts. Then, Rosenburg got stuck on the stairs.
Oh, well. As soon as I get a new computer, a friend and I will play REAL co-op. In the meantime... I look forward to using the Rosenberg and Keller models in mods...

Today I decided that I want to do a different kind of mod than I had planned for after Colony 42. I originally wanted the story of a Gun store employee taking revenge on the marines who killed his boss, But I think that the NPC choice of citizens, soliders, cops, and a sniper or two would be done a lot better on source, and I long ago found out that what I planned as my first source mod had already been done to death (Rebel citizen escaping City 17 after the uprising)And I need a source project to plan and refine for when I can acsess steam again. So, anyway, I decided to look into coding a simple NPC (An added female form of barney to go fix the bug where custom voices go back to the original pain and death sounds) I may look for someone who can verify that It will do what I want later on, but only after I finish Colony 42. Look out coding world, I'm planning a trip! /Long journal

Well, isn't this typical... I get an entire week off, and I seem to have temporarily lost the will to map. I'm so close to finishing the map I'm on, and I can't bring myself to do it. Any ideas on how I can get back on track?

Well, I just found a new model site, and I managed to find a Deagle that may be useful for Colony 42. It does'nt look quite like what I was looking for, but it uses HD HEV hands and it is a Desert Eagle, so I guess It'll have to do until I get some software and learn how to hack and rescale models. The site is the HIT Model Depot, http://www.hitmodel.half-lifecreations.com/filedb/ Perhaps you may find something you like there, It's got everything from Weapons to NPCs to Gibs.
EDIT: On second thought, the deagle is'nt really that good. I doubt I'll use it, But I'm leaving this up for the link.

You are in a hallway. It goes on forever, and gets larger as it goes along. There is no curvature like the earth. What do you see?

On a more journal-related note, I think I'll deticate the upcoming weekend working on Colony 42 and writing.

It is a dark day, TWHL... My Goldeneye 007 cartrige for N64 is getting into worse and worse condition. I was playing caverns, and while I was running up through the huge spiral room, the entire map started shaking, and the music went all weird. Then the game froze. This is as bad as the Knife-stab-sound-twitch-guard-glitch... My days of playing goldeneye are numbered...
