The #twhl IRC channel has now moved servers, away from the evil Marvin, to Gamesurge. The new details are posted on the IRC about page. If you don't already loiter around there, consider it! It's good fun and you get to know each other better.

Recently, there has been a proliferation of spamming and unwarranted behavior within TWHL. Offenders, in accordance with the regulations of the forum, have been banned. However, some users are low enough to return, make another account, and continue their spamming. This is unacceptable, and these users are tracked and banned again. However, we cannot control the internet, and some users have circumvented our ban protection system and gained access to the site yet again. Again, unacceptable. Out of the admins' control? No.

ANY offending users of this account spam, will have their entire host blocked from accessing the site. When posting or accessing the forum, your IP addresses, host, and range are logged. This is not harmful nor malicious to any normal users, and it is only visible to administrators. This information is used to track users and ban duplicate accounts or accounts which are circumventing the access control system. If necessary or appropriate, we will contact your internet service provider and request action on their behalf.

Banned users are banned for a reason. Administrators won't suddenly re-grant you access because you 'didn't know' you were spamming. This is all spelled out in terms that a 6-year old could read in the forum rules - Which you are expected to read. Didn't do that? Oh well, that isn't our problem. Most bannable offenses are common sense on an internet forum as well, so it's not like we ban for obscure reasons.

If you missed bannable offenses for some reason, here they are:

* Posting links to warez, pirated, or otherwise illegal software or content.
* Posting links to pornographic content: not all the users on this site are of legal age to view such content so you are risking legal issues here.
* Posting spam, trash, or otherwise useless threads or replies - continually.
* Creating duplicate accounts for the sole order of circumventing the ban system, or accounts intended for the sole purpose of imitating another forum user.
* Accessing the site with malicious intent, or repeatedly harassing other users in an unwarranted manner. Malicious access or hacking attempts risk involvement of your local law enforcement.

See, most of these are common sense. Don't screw around, and the admins won't screw with you. That is all.

habboi has finally completed and released his member showcase project! He writes:

This map started out as a mini project where I would make a small map with all the members faces on the wall.

It later changed to rooms and I begun making a room suited for each member!

Get it here!

The deadline for this competition has been moved six days to give people longer to finish up. It is now closing on the 29th.

Well, these are busy times for us moderators. There are, to my recollection, five tutorials in the works, mostly for HL1 (but some more modelling guides from the excellent BJ, for Source).

In other news, there're only five days left in the present competition. If there are few entries, however, this may well be extended to share the first (and last unofficial) Source competition's deadline.

Finally, to let you know that I've sneaked in another bbcode tag for you ASCII-art lovers. Use [pre] to get fixed-width text appropriate for posting daft diagrams made out of bars and underscores ? but make sure you create them in a fixed-width (or "monospace") font in the first place! That doesn't include the TWHL forum post box.

We have three new tutorials: one by Gman, one by 38_98, and the last another XSI tutorial by BJ, concerning rescaling prop models for Source, mortars for Half-Life 1, and a guide to one's first Source model in XSI respectively.

Congratulations are due to BJ and Daubster, winners of this month's Forum and Map Vault awards respectively! Top stuff, fellas.

In other news, there are, I believe, six tutorials in the works at present, covering modelling and displacements for Source, and a couple of entities for HL. Keep your eyes a-peeled.

There are a few tutorials in the works, several for Source, and BJ's kicked off the updates with the first part of his pair of modelling tutorials.

Keep an eye out for the September awards, which will be given on Thursday the 1st, and don't forget to enter the current competition!

That's right, we're speeding along now. Elon Yariv, the winner of Casa del Administrator, has selected Xen Transportation as his competition theme. You have a month... and to show you I'm serious: you have thirty days.
