I played an early version of it ages ago. It was good, but buggy. I'm sure they've fixed it now. The download is too big for me :(

That's not exactly good you know. Try to eliminate the r_speeds in that map.

As for the level change, make sure the entity setup is correct. This includes the names as well as the actual positions of the entities.

Hang on...what are you mapping for? You really should find a way to run both CS and Hammer on one computer.

in changing levels Post #38206
I find that it leads to better results, espicially in trying to avoid players from seeing the change, apart from the 'Loading' text. Take a look at some of the changes in the original Half-Life. You will sometimes notice that the two maps are inconsistant.

There's a better level of accuracy by coping the section in. You wont get the positioning of the entities wrong either. I managed to a get a camera to go 'through' a change level for a map using this method.

in changing levels Post #38204
OK. I noticed that too, as well as the fact that the example map didn't quite work for me.
The key to a successful level_change is perfection. Take a hallway with a map change in the middle. The best way to do this is to first create the hallway in a seperate map. Place an info_landmark in it. Copy this hallway into the maps that you want the change to be in. Now place your trigger_changelevel's in the correct positions. Make sure you setup the options correctly. Now compile the first map but don't go through the the change. Compile the second map (place the info_player_start away from the change) and don't go through the change. Open up Half-Life and load the first map. Now go through the level change. It should work perfectly! :)

Like Captain P said, it would be useful for very small areas such as looking out windows and the such. I doubt that it'd work too well in an outdoor map.

That's why they're building Half-Life 2 to be similar to the original. The new version of Hammer will basically be the same as the current.

Add your textures, hit apply, then OK then close Hammer and reopen. Sometimes this works. Having CS installed helps, otherwise you wont be able to quickly test maps.

I have an idea for this...
How bout a tournament? First, see how many people are interested. Get them to enter in some way (email, forum post, etc). Then we start the rounds. 4 player DM with the winner going through to the next round. Eventually the final will come round between the two ultimate players (could possibly be 4 as well). Members can spectate this final match.

in Cache Error Post #37881
z_malloc failed on allocation of xxx bytes or D_SCAlloc: bad cache size 0

Another insufficient memory or misallocated memory error. Possible causes are many, including too little RAM & also by having a texture perpendicular to the face of the solid with WC. In one case it was a script that shifted models one button. Possible solutions are:
1. For memory telling the HL main engine how much memory to use with HL -heapsize # (1024 x number of meg is popular #) or HL -zone # in the shortcut.
2. For texture perpendicular go into WC/Hammer, then you can press alt + p, and select the problem if it is listed, and tell it to fix all of type; then try to compile again.
3. Or go thru the other errors on this page and try them as fixes. It CAN be frustrating! Sorry.
