in Spirit - Expert Compile Post #28865
I'm using Spirit for a mod I'm working on so I decided to set up an expert compile window for Spirit. I've inputted all the commands (at least I think I have) for the compile. When I compile I get this:

** Executing...
** Command: Change Directory
** Parameters: "C:SIERRAHalf-Life"
  • Could not execute the command:
Change Directory "C:SIERRAHalf-Life"
  • Windows gave the error message:
"Access is denied."

** Executing...
** Command: C:Zonershlcsg.exe
** Parameters: c:VALVEH~1mapspreludes

Spirit then runs the previous version of the bsp file. What am I doing wrong? I basically copied what the Half-Life Full Compile had into a new one for Spirit except I added the '-game spirit' part. Also, when I do a normal compile it works fine.

Just on multi_managers, if they can only trigger 16, can the last one trigger another mulit_manager thus giving you unlimited triggable entities?

Well I suppose the mods could have a slightly raised allowance due to their moderating responsibilities, and also have the power to up the limit on users who need to submit more than one map for some reason.

I think its a good idea, worth some consideration, however who would rate the maps? The moderators? Surely there would be an influx of maps waiting to be reviewed. You would need a few more people to help (me looks up helpfully ;) ). I would also suggest orgainising the Vault into more sections than it has now as has been mentioned in other forums
(i.e. Sections for Half-Life SP, Half-Life MP, Opposing Force, etc)

Looking forward to the new Hammer, apparently you can see all the lighting without having to compile.

No way is Farcry better than Half-Life 2! How the hell can you compare a game with another that isn't even released? Besides, Farcry is a straight shooter and has a crappy introduction unlike the original Half-Life which set up the whole story before anything started!

Anyone who has watched the 'The Meaning Of Life' should know what the meaning of life is. And here it is! The meaning of life...

"Well, that's the end of the film. Now, here's the meaning of life. Thank you, Brigitte. M-hmm. Well, it's nothing very special.

Uh, try and be nice to people, avoid eating fat, read a good book every now and then, get some walking in, and try and live together in peace and harmony with people of all creeds and nations, and, finally, here are some completely gratuitous pictures of penises to annoy the censors and to hopefully spark some sort of controversy, which, it seems, is the only way, these days, to get the jaded, video-sated public off their arses and back in the sodding cinema. Family entertainment bollocks. What they want is filth: people doing things to each other with chainsaws during tupperware parties, babysitters being stabbed with knitting needles by gay presidential candidates, vigilante groups strangling chickens, armed bands of theatre critics exterminating mutant goats-- Where's the fun in pictures? Oh, well, there we are. Here's the theme music. Goodnight."

Tada! NOW STOP ASKING

I need a cup gib for a map. Now, I used a monster_generic and put the model as 'garbagegibs.mdl' which works fine as a crumpled up piece of paper appears. Now I know you go to body and choose between different models, so I inputted '5' for a cup. The problem is the model doesn't change! In Hammer it just stays as that piece of paper! In fact, no number seems to work, it just stays as that piece of paper. What am I doing wrong? Is this normal? Will the compile show the cup or the paper? I cannot compile at the moment though...

Have you used the pointfile? When your map loads, open the console and type 'pointfile'. It might say something like 'x amount of points read' and white dots will appear in your map. Follow those dots around. Whenever they intersect a brush, theres usually a leak.

War is harsh, cruel and most of all unfair. It's a shocking experience. Think about it. We are all placed on this earth to live of its resources and prosper joyously. Yet, look at all the acts of hurt and pain committed to the human race everyday. Attacking another person, killing another person its beyond comprehension.

Life is a precious gift, a rare property that we all possess, yet it takes a simple action for it to be taken away again, most of the time in a rather gruesome fashion.

Where will the world go from here? Are we destined to take each other out forever? Or is there a shred of sanity left among us?

(Please excuse me for being poetic and single minded, but I felt like saying it)
