To be honest, I was a bit annoyed by the combine.
Yeah, it was notably evil they kept coming out of nowhere.

I'm with you visually. The level design was interesting but they had some parts with very low detail levels that could have easily had more added in to make it look better (Square broken walls!? wtf!?)

It runs about 30fps for me, same with a friend on a 7800 or something. Kind of dissappointed with that, but then again I insist on 1280x full specs.

The game is really quirky, haha. I find it strangely silly and a little addictive though it really doesn't make for much fun because you can't like set things to not drag so you always drag the wrong limb or whatever and then fuck something up and get owned. The tutorials suck majorly too, all they are is "move here" but they dont tell you anything else which you need to know, like the controls to use.

5/10 - Why sell this thru Steam. As Cryo said in IRC, "From the makers of the test chamber, this is just unacceptable."

Dev textures work better for pre-planning when you dont have textures, too - In BMS for example inbound is mostly dev-textures, while I go along and try to fit the ones from CSS and HL2 in where appropriate. This lets me finalize some architecture without worrying about the texture artists.

Rabideh had a lot of custom content but I probably unpacked it wrong because I saw a lot of checkerboard textures. Next time, please, include it in the map itself or use easy folders like materials/mapname(/subfolders) and such.
Yah, I have a build somewhere with all the required materials, but it clocks in around ~40mb :[ - The way the Source materials system works too, I have to leave the materials/models in their proper directory structure (ie cs_assault, de_train) for them to work, as opposed to dm_slums :[

I liked the 8-balls myself. At first I was like "wtf what are these doing here!" but they were really great fun in gameplay - Me and Section_Ei8ht from the BMS team kept chasing each other around the map with them for a while. That map was a load of fun for physitems battles - Much more enjoyable than the ones the VALVe maps offer methinks.

Well done, everyone!

Aye, last color in the palette determines the decal's color. You'll have to open it in Wally or something and change the color. Then, save it as a new wad and just -wadinclude that one. Shouldn't be tooooo difficult if you really want the color changed.

I cleaned up this thread.

I'm seriously starting to get headaches by seeing this spam and flame war shit in every little thread I visit. Me + Headache + Forum Admin = Not good. It's unnecssary, too, unless you really get off on causing annoyance to admins or something. (Notably me since like everyone glares in my direction when posts dissapear or threads are locked randomly =/ - I'm really not that bad of a guy) You guys can take this up in email or PM though, cause I'll start handing out temp bans for people who start instigating shit or provoking it in the forum.

A general tip is to give CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM on maps too, and not just go "I can't do better but it still sucks." I think I cleaned up those posts so it refers to nothing in here, but its a good general remark to remember.

Not even targeting anyone in general, just keep it clean and you'll do fine.

Well, it's just something for entities (cameras, etc.) to point at. Serves the same purpose as info_null.
info_null is better to work with, especially for spotlight targets and such in HL1 as the entity is deleted but the RAD data would already be there. Saves against the ent count.

Yeah, I'd say make good use of the constraint systems. Their proper setup wil l be crucial here - For without them you'll run some long and costly VPhys calculations. I'm sure something like this could be accomplished (Cables and ropes for muscles might work better, actually), with some thought. You'll want to get acquainted with the phys_ set of entities, as well - They will be your good friends for this situation I'd wager.

I'm sure with some clever parenting and entity work you could pull this off.

I'm not sure, but perhaps the models require their materials to be cached when you load up Hammer, so you don't end up with a bunch of non-textured models. D: - That would be my only guess why.

There's an option to exclude material directories, but it doesn't choose from a GCF file source, so you have to extract the materials, and then it's just kind of redundant and doesn't do anything.

Invisibleladder doesn't seem useful for anything. I think it's kind of obsolete with the new ladder system.
