Since I'm not overly familar with Quark, I won't comment on it, so I'll just say this instead.

RMFs are Valve's pre-compiled map format. They're essentially a form of text file (open one in Notepad and you'll see what I mean). When you hit F9, Hammer loads up four seperate programs in order to compile (or render) different aspects of a map (the physical geometry, the lighting, the visibility calculations and so on).

Not finding a map on the server can mean a few things, but the easiest thing to do first is to go to your maps directory in the HL folder and check if there's a rendered BSP there in the first place. If not, check your maps directory in the Hammer folder. Hammer compiles the BSP there first before copying it over to whatever maps folder you specified for the game.

Now, onto other issues: I would highly recommend switching over to Zoners Half-Life Tools instead of using the old q(uake) tools for compiling. The q tools are woefully outdated: Zoners are far more efficient and give a better insight into any compile errors that might have cropped up.

Your Hammer settings are fine, so I'm guessing there's an error in your map. Post the contents of the compile window in here.

Honestly though, I think the people who say they've had a lot of girlfriends are the ones who are sad. It's like they keep trying, but can't hold any one relationship down, which tells you a bit about them.
I disagree. If you just keep finding out that the person you're going out with 'isn't the one', what's the point of prolonging the inevitable? Attempting to 'hold a relationship down' does more harm than good when all's said and done.

Both. You can create ones to fit the style of the ones we have, or you can create some different ones, so long as they're not huge.

We'll basically just split the new emoticons into categories. Anyone who makes one like the current ones will get added to that group, otherwise they'll go in another.

A simple and easy one for you all to get into: design an emoticon for TWHL! The best ones will be chosen and added to the TWHL collection of emoticons. They'll also make it into TWHL3.

When I think of some rules, I'll add 'em, but I'm incredibly tired, so my lovely assistant Penguinboy will fill in as nessecary.

I agree with FresheD.

The only reason I don't moderate like I used to is because it's somewhat difficult to pick sides. In this example, I have no problem with Ghetto, seeing as how English isn't his first language. I've noticed that many people around here demonstrate hostility to those who don't speak English very well. Sure, bag out the idiots who can't type for shit because they're retarded, but I don't think it's fair to rag on those who are at the very least trying their best to communicate to one of the few Half-Life 1 mapping communities left on the Internet.

The Hunter: I've generally always respected ya mate, and this thread won't change that, but a public soapbox really isn't the most appropriate place to rag on someone. I know I'm being somewhat hypocritical here (and there are more examples of this, such as a certain person who fights for our freedom), but I guess this is a case of do as I say, not as I do. ;)

Anyhoo. I know people can be a pain a sometimes, but in the interests of promoting healthy international friendships, let's at least try to be a bit patient sometimes. In my tenure here as a member (not as a mod, as a member), I've had the pleasure to meet (you know what I mean) a large variety of different people. Call me stupid, but I still think that in a such a large world (and please, no one start telling me about the size of the universe, I already know it's gigantic) the fact that a bunch of people are connected in such a way without even needing to be in close proximity to each other is fantastic. I know that I've made some great friends over the years and unless they all turn out to be pedophiles or the FBI, then I'm happy.

I don't expect you to follow the rules set on the forums here to the letter. Hell, I've broken a tonne of them over the years, that's for sure. However, I'd ask that we at least remember why we're here and just take a step back once and while to take it in. I'd like to think that I'm a fairly peaceful mod, so I hope that you at least read this. Then again, if you're up to here, then you've read most of it at least, so well done.

So. What do you say, peeps?

The emo culture and the music are somewhat intrinsically linked, even without people realising it. It's all an offshoot from the original punk movement in Britain in the 80s. Since then, there's been gradual evolutions of the same shit.

It's all about being rebellious. Emos concern themselves with "emotions", which generally consist of "people don't understand me". And there's music (and fashion) to go with it. Of course, I'm over-generalising here, but bands such as My Chemical Romance and that crusade the emo music, which is basically a form of piss-weak punk music (count in Greenday and Blink 182 for good measure).

Like I said, I'm over-generalising here, but that's a general overview from the music perspective.

Man, Bloc Party is not indie at all, do you even know what indie is? Indie means that it's either an independent band that doesn't have a solid record contract (last time I checked, Bloc Party were being whored all over the world) or a band with a certain sound (that being a sort of mellow alternative rock, although associating indie with this sound is incredibly vague).

Bloc Party play generic pop rock, influenced by Radiohead and the like. It's a very British sound and it's incredibly boring.

If you want true indie music and some variety, then click and be saved.

I thought Frontpage died years ago...

Anyhoo, Caboose's advice is quite wise. Notepad++ is what I'm using to build TWHL3 at the moment. Check up the W3Schools (Google for it) for some beginner tutorials on markup. As for the actual design, well...that's where some imagination is needed. I suggest looking through existing webpages to get some ideas on different styles. ZombieLoffe has made some brilliant webpage designs.

[pimp]And I guess you could check out my minimalistic site here, which is currently having a bit of a makeover.[/pimp]

Free software generates more user interest, particularly if its good. AVG also has a professional version of their virus scanner, as does Ad-Aware and ZoneAlarm. For the most part, the free versions are quite adequate. They also generate revenue from advertising on their websites and so forth. However, some users simply write software for the heck of it: people map for the very same reason.
