Srry: You've got a point, though some people haven't played enough MV maps/mods to be able to choose 5 worthy of the award. Any vote is valuable and I don't think forcing others to spend lots of time searching for more quality stuff is a good idea, so unless more people find this unfair, the rule stays.
Sure, there's always laziness, but I'm sure at least most of our old-timers will manage remembering 5 of their favourites. ;)

Thanks to everyone who voted so far!

You might want to look at the cockroach code too. It has a pretty simple random movement algorythm; I'm sure you could make your crow fly around and land on random objects with a couple of additions.

Try changing the pitch value to something over -90 and see how that works. Also, you might want to change your Yaw value for more interesting effects.

You might be having multiple leaks if LeakMarker doesn't work properly. As for the barrel texture used in the sewers - there's a decent variety of higher-resolution rusty metal textures. Just search halflife.wad for "babtech" or "silo" textures. You'll be sure to find a more decent texture still fitting your theme.

in Need larger game title image! Post #241170
I think you can achieve it without any coding, just hud.txt.
Here's how you'd (probably) do it.

From hud.txt
title_half 640 640hud4	0	226	256	30
The first number is for resolution, then there's the name of the sprite used. The other four numbers are coordinates for both opposite corners of the area to cut out from the whole sprite image. The first two are for the upper-left corner of the area, while the last two specify the size of the texture area to use(256x30). So, to get a bigger starting title image - make the biggest one you can and edit the coordinates to match it. Also, in order not to lose the other sprites stored in hud4/hud4 - you might have to make a separate sprite for them all and make apropriate changes in hud.txt.

EDIT: Heh, this should be added to my Hud Editing tut. ;o

in Questions about NULL texture Post #240773
The NULL texture stops the face it's aplied to from being rendered. That reduces compile times, r_speeds and overall performance of the map. Using NULL textures is the most common technique in optimizing maps.

You can apply the texture to any object; outside and inside the map, entity and world objects and so on.

Long-winded Prologue
We've had loads of quality maps and mods in the Map Vault no matter when they were posted. From short but unique experiences to the most epic mods you remember a long time after playing, each one of them added to the bustling and growing database, showing how TWHL helped some of the now-skilled or even legendary mappers.
So, if current creations recieve awards for excellence, it's only fair to do the same with the older stuff, especially when there's such loads of quality work to choose from.
Here's how it all works:

Best of 2003-2006
Having to point out one creation from over a thousand available is quite a challenge, so instead - you are to choose 5 submissions you find worthy, list them from the very best to still worthy of winning and post them here (each will get 1-5 points according to their position in your list).
The Top 3 maps will all recieve extensive reviews, while the authors get their awards and a load of praising upon. ;)

Best of Rules:
? The entry must have been posted in the Map Vault's completed maps section by its respective author between and including 07-06-2003 and 31-12-2006. (from cs_canbunk to krAzY)
? You can vote for 3 to 5 entries.

As for 2007 - MotY voting will be held to determine the best of this year.

Map/Mod of the Year, 2007
Same as above, only you get to vote for 3 submissions instead of 5. Only one winner here.

MotY Rules:
? The entry must have been posted in the Map Vault's completed maps section by its respective author between and including 01-01-2007 and 31-12-2007. (from fy_magic_fountain to de_dome)
? You can vote for 1 to 3 entries.

Rules applied for both MotY and Best of..
? You can't vote for a map/mod you've posted.
? You may only vote for a map from HL1/HL2/EP1/EP2 or one of their respective official mods. (Portal, HLDM/HL2DM, CS/CS:CZ/CS:S, DoD/DoD:S, TFC/TF2, BS, OpFor) or Spirit. (applies to maps only).
However, if a map was made for a non-official mod (e.g The Specialists, Natural Selection), which is currently available for download - you can vote for it too.
? You can vote for previous MotM or Competition winners.
? You can update/change your vote any time, so don't hesitate.

When voting - be sure to let us know what you're nominating the maps for (MotY or Best of, bolded or colored if you can).

Example votes
MotY
Mod A <-- Recieves 3 points
Map B <-- Recieves 2 points
Mod C <-- Recieves 1 point

Best of
Map X <-- Recieves 5 points
Mod Y <-- Recieves 4 points
Map F <-- Recieves 3 points
Map T <-- Recieves 2 points
Mod W <-- Recieves 1 point
You can also vote for less than 5 or 3 submissions..
Best of
Map A <-- Recieves 5 points
Mod B <-- Recieves 4 points
Mod D <-- Recieves 3 points

MotY
Mod Z <-- Recieves 3 points
We'll be accepting multiple guest reviewers for both competitions, chosen randomly from everyone who's voted here.
Hope I made the rules clear enough. These ones really count, so do take part. :^_^:
[m]May the voting begin![/m] :hammer:

P.S: Merged Best of 2003-2006 and Map of the Year 2007 in one thread to avoid spamming the forum with MotM stuff. If having both in one thread's too confusing - let me know, I'll split it up.

P.P.S: Don't forget about MotM: December! :>

those who didn't like dm_particle above the rest, and voted it just because it was in a position to overtake The Citizen.
You're missing the point that everyone's free to like or dislike TC. If they indeed don't like it and vote for a map, that's capable of winning - where's the problem? Should they stop voting?

Can you quote anyone saying that? Nope.
Metaphore. Penguinboy, for instance, gave you more than one reason to stop complaining about how people vote, yet, judging from your posts - you've ignored them all.
It's only the lame anti-vote attitude
What happened to expressing your opinion? Sure, some of them didn't provide much reason to why they voted for a different map, yet it's entirely their choice. Be the reason "LULZ IT SUX", it's still a valid vote. Naturally, since by voting you give one point to the map you liked the most, all the other maps you could've voted for recieve sort of an "anti-vote", since the voter didn't find them worthy of his vote. So, if what you're saying is right - every map posted between 01-31 Nov. has already recieved loads of anti-votes. Maybe the other authors should stand up for themselves too? :P

Oh, and what the fuck?
Well I really don't care too much what happens here. I know that many people, including many whom I don't know personally, have spent many hours enjoying Citizen. And that's all the reward I need.

But, I think that if Citizen doesn't win this .... well Jesus. You'll have to take a long hard look at the reputation of TWHL. Because any mapper with any skill can see that Citizen is not even in the same league as it's competitors here. It's far more accomplished than all of the other contenders put together - in every way - and whether you like Citizen or not, you can't justify denying that.
.. what? Honestly, either accept people's opinions, or don't release your work. Obiviously, no matter how good you think your stuff is, there will always be people, who dislike it or criticise it.
I mean, I've always seen you as experienced mappers, smart people, but fuck, plugging your ears and shouting out "NYANYA, I CAN'T HEAR YOU! CITIZEN PWNS!!" isn't quite the most mature way of reacting to votes against your awesome mod. Sure, there's loads of effort put in it, but that doesn't make it instantly superior to everything released in the MV, does it?
Anti-votes? Bullshit. Some people just don't like The Citizen and they're voting for what they think is the next best release. Call that immature and stupid, eh?
People have opinions, whether you like it or not. Get the fuck over it. :

Still voting for The Citizen, since I did enjoy it. I'm one step from voting for particle, though. I really can't stand shitty immature arrogance.

That's the same card I had in my old PC. It ran HL2 and CS:S, though I doubt it could handle EP1, not to mention 2.

The engine's updated with every Episodic release, meaning more power required to run it. I don't think an MX440 could handle the fancier effects in TF2. :(

Nope, having multiple faces on one plane also causes errors. You'll just have to split both large textures and the solids they're on to avoid this.
