Hi, Maiku. Welcome to TWHL. I find it a bit odd that after breaking into the site you still registered to it. I personally believe it is kind of a dick move to hack first and tell later, and I've been thinking whether it wouldn't have been better to just tell Penguinboy straight away, but I figure it wouldn't have gotten his attention as fast. So I have mixed feelings about you.

In any case, hi. I find your presence here intriguing.

Technically, Penguinboy (or any coder really) has to have knowledge of how to perform these attacks if he wants to write code that protects against them.

If you went all the way there, you had to open it. It's not that much of a stretch to assume that if you could open it, you could also close it again.

TJB: That is terrifying. I sometimes wake up suddenly to a bunch of noise that I could only describe as what you say you've heard. Sort of like a very distorted triangle-wave white noise. It only holds for a fraction of a second. I am almost completely sure it isn't actual sound waves but an illusion product of my half asleep brain that happens entirely inside my head. That doesn't make it any less startling though.

Do you still have that toy?

I'll give it a try, I guess.

I got lucky in the first Colombian level and hit two guys near the beginning. I didn't bring the sniper along to the next level so I had to do without it. Getting the guy at the end was a major pain because I kept trying to silently take everyone down and failing, then trying to mow them all down with an AK when they raised the alarm and still failing. Then I saw a video on youtube and realised I could have just strolled in and killed the 4-5 guys inside the house and knife the boss.

You too?

Look Mr. new member, I'm starting to get annoyed. You made a dozen threads to ask pretty much the same question in all of them, getting the same answers several times in each. Now you're sending private messages to people to ask about the same questions.

I don't understand what you want, I only see that you don't want to read the answers to the questions you yourself asked. If you don't care about the answers to the questions you've made, what exactly do you want?

We are all polite and helpful to every new member, and you constantly asking the same questions over and over without reading the answers will only make us mad (or more fun, make the mods mad) and nobody will want to help you anymore. So please, start making specific questions and read the answers people give you, or stop asking questions altogether if you don't care about the answers - which is the impression you're causing.

I might try that, but it didn't go well the last time I tried to do something like that.

The missions in Colombia were pretty straightforward for me (turns out I happened to get an officer's uniform from the very beginning without realising) although the last one was terribly frustrating until I tried a completely different strategy. Still, the whole running through endless spaces (these levels in 47 and the Japan ones in SA) were pretty poorly thought out in that regard. You're a SILENT HITMAN, not RAMBO.

*Off topic but it seems to be a very common misspelling: Colombia is the country in South America, British Columbia is the Canadian territory. Games tend to take place in Colombia. I thought some might be interested in knowing the difference.

All the answers you need are in this thread and in the other threads you created to ask pretty much the same question. Anything more would be repeating the same that was said several times already, so read what we already told you.

If then and only then, you have a specific question that hasn't ever been covered in this forum or anywhere else you're welcome to ask.

in custom model into my map how? Post #312858
Custom models should be in half-life/valve/models/ preferably in a folder with the name of your map.

Read the description of cycler and cycler_sprite entities to learn how to insert them in game.

Path to your model file goes in the "sprite (model)" field. i.e "models/mymap/something.mdl"

What game is that?

I've been playing a few games lately. There's Hitman Codename 47, which I ragequit on the final mission because it's a bitch. It's bloody impossible. Of course, I went to youtube and found someone passing it in the most bullshit way imaginable (which I tried and still failed miserably).

So I moved on to Hitman: Silent Assassin, which I've been winging so far. Guess I'm about halfway through.

I've also been playing a bit of CS:GO. I can't create local games in it and Steam support is completely useless when it comes to supporting anything more complicated than deleting your steam files and redownloading it.

Then there's a few games I got for my birthday that I haven't played yet: Amnesia; the Fallout Collection, which is pretty incomplete to be called a collection (only Fallouts 1, 2, and Tactics - 3 and NV are conspicuously absent); and Bioshock.

Bioshock I've played just a bit, it's very interesting.

in Trying to understand GoldSrc textures Post #312751
Curious, that's something I never tried.

In addition to what Rimrook said, I vaguely remember this about animated textures:

+0texturename
+1texturename
+2texturename
+3texturename

Can be toggled to

+Atexturename
+Btexturename
+Ctexturename

(+A, not -A)

I have never tested this either, but I remember it being mentioned somewhere in TWHL.

As for ~light textures, the ~ is only to let the engine know the texture has to be looked up in lights.rad, otherwise it won't glow even if listed.

I have NEVER seen the textures in the third screenshot, those are not in WON HL at least. Must be the Steam version or the Source port.

in How can i create a custom decal? Post #312616
No matter what program you used to actually draw the decal, you'll need Wally to import the picture into your custom .wad file.

Wally gives you easy access to the palette. Make the first 254 colours grayscale and let Wally fit your picture to those 254 levels. Then take the 255th (the last one, bottom right of the grid) and change it to the colour you want the decal to be.

Finally, remember to prefix a "{" (left curly brace, no quotes) before the texture name inside the wad (i.e name it {decal)

The end. That's it. It's not very complicated. I don't have Wally at hand right now but if you have further questions I'll find it and try to describe the steps differently.

in How can i create a custom decal? Post #312606
Also for transparent textures, the transparent colour has to be index 255 but its RGB values don't matter. But I digress.

Decals on HL use the first 254 colours as alpha greyscale values and the 255th determines the RGB values that will be used to colour the decal in-game.
