A 250 gb SATA 2 Hard drive (already bought and tested, just can't use it til Xmas).

A gig of RAM (same situation as HD).
I hate it when I have to do that, I had that with a monitor once. It hurt packing it all away and putting it back in the box.

...Its also quite worrying that so far all of our christmas prezzies have been computer related!

So what's on your list to Santa this year?

Santa isn't real.

You'll probably find mobile broadband a bit too slow to handle what you're after. I think they say around 2-3 mb MAX so you should expect A LOT less. What's the pricing of it like?

It looks like Hammer is still adding more wads...

de_ciruelos.wad
mordor.wad
cs_cbble.wad
...

Are you sure all these wads are removed from Hammer configurer? Also, make sure you completely restart Hammer - sometimes texture and wad changes are made unto this happens

in wtf counter-st.wad??? Post #237419
Have you decompiled another map and copied parts of it - or used any props?

Also, check for errors in Hammer, and check the compile log for any similar errors to when you load the map.

EDIT: oh... you posted it. Thanks!

Yeah, your budget is very reasonably and you're easily be able to build / buy a computer with good enough specs. Is it just the base unit or monitor, speakers, etc too?

in The Orange Box graphics card question Post #237248
yeah... the 9800 pro can still kick some ass!

But honestly, you must upgrade, for the sake of humanity. You don't have to go all singing all dancing, just spend 30 quid and you'll run the game no problem. By the sounds of it, your computer is in desperate need of attention, and don't by any means think that this would only benefit the HL series.

Anyway... enough of my moaning.

It is that the game is refusing to run with an error message? Otherwise there are apps out there to resource share, and maybe try overclocking, but seriously, but the sound of it, it really ain't worth it.

The fourth number is brightness... I think. It is for ZHLT's lighting file, somthing like:

255 255 255 10000

R G B Brightness

As PB said, you have the GCF because in has some of the original HL textures and sounds, etc in it - saves having two copies when both HL and CS installed. I think its only about ?5, and a 1/2 hour download.

in color number Post #236397
I think someone around here made a program to show the colour - although Im not sure though.

I think you can do that in Hammer anyway, just place a point light entity and then change the colour in the palette. Go back to properties view and it will show the colour you chose in the above text format.

in texture light problem Post #236271
do you mean you use ZHLT to compile the map or just to create / run the .BSP?

If you're using the lights.rad file... which you should, and you're using a non-standard HL light texture which it sounds like you are, you need to add the name of the texture onto your lights.rad file at the end of the list, which the required colour and brightness parameters, ie:

~BRIGHT_LIGHT01 546 545 545 40000

Like OMG11!!! :)

...However, obviously if this was attached to a generator, the friction inside it would slow it down.

I say we get everyone with no money or food in the world, put them in a massive factory the size of Africa, with millions of chairs with pedals attached. They pedal for an eight hour shift, then get free accommodation and food. Win win! :)

in for beginner hl coders Post #236038
Spirit is a modifcation of the original HL code to allow things that we wanted to do... stuff like doors on moving trains without doing seperate doors, etc. It gives the mapper more control over everything and more easy access to the code. Its not a mod for HL.

However.... the power generated by the wheel is less than that required by the pump, therefore as you're inputting energy, more energy is being used that is being created, therefore having a negative efficency.

I have this idea once to using visking tubing to achieve the effect of creating energy from nothing. A completely sealed unit with visking tubing which using osmosis absorbs chemicals and drips them onto a turbine-like object, rotating it. These chemicals then run back into the pool at the bottom. Technically this process should continue forever... :)

Yeah... the .pts file doesn't do that, always use the .lin file if you can.

You know how to use the compile boundaries right, becuase otherwise thats quite a useful method at finding leaks.

in Don't Drive Fast Post #235783
@ Arcan: yeah... actually kinds same here. I always just find myself a little distracted, and then I suddenly realise Im away with the fairies and concentrate really hard. I suppose its like daydreaming... but just more dangerous. Trouble is its so easy to do... speeding that is.

In the UK, 30mph feels soooo slow after driving for a while, especially if you've just come off a motorway or something. And showing off... thats definately another aspect, which probably played a small part in this accident.... its too tempting to drive faster to impress.

But yeah, as I said, Im trying to slow down... but regretably, sometimes I just think you need a reminder like this to really make it sink in.

My repects.
