I don't get Seventh's either. Maybe one of those who lol'd at it can explain.

Although, I think only colonials wore those type of hats, so it's most likely another zing aimed at us dumb yanks...

Picture still made me laugh :P

Yeah the idea of map from the base is the best!
Yeah, I agree in that it will be easier, and nobody really will have an excuse not to finish...including me!

Should have a shorter deadline, lots more entries, and be a bit easeier to judge too, I would think.

I would do as darkphooenix_68 says, but if you insist on using the func_button, make sure Health if shootable is set to 0.

I can't think of any other reason it would behave that way. I think older FGD's had the default setting for it to 1, so by default, your button wouldn't work unless you changed it, or shot the button :)

I never said you worshiped Him--though you must admit you pimp him a lot when you post in here ;)

The prevailing trend seems to me regarding Zappa though, is that most people I know either really like him, or really don't :)

Who gives a crap about 4GB
It's not about the space you fucking moron. If software is earmarking 4GB of space without your knowledge/consent, that's just plain bullshit, period.

HDD space is also more valuble when your a mobile user...so fuck you and your 300GB HDD[/envy] :P
You should pay more attention to your PC
Indeed I should. Checking out SV now, looks neat...

The HL2 and source demo do take up that much space if they're installed.

If you clicked on the link from hardforum, you would see how much space they actually take up:
source sounds.gcf - 975mb
source models.gcf - 449mb
source materials.gcf - 1.01gb
source engine.gcf - 68.6mb
half-life 2 content.gcf - 838mb

It doesn't actually download the data, it just creates temporary cache files as placeholders so it won't run out of space during the potential download.
Well that changes everything. That means Steam was never robbing the precious bandwith, nor HDD real estate...

Thanks for the 411 Rabid!

Don't waste your time. Tycell apparently wouldn't mind if someone was leeching huge amounts of his bandwith/HDD space, without his knowlege/permission, for something he didn't need/want.

If you mean was there a progress bar or something, no.

But the very next day, All this free space. I suppose I should have tried to confirm this somehow before posting, but I really don't see how it could be anything else...

edit: Check out the random rants on this link. It confirms the filesize at least:

Not True? I'm telling you it was over 4 gb.
There is no other explanation. One day I had 19 GB free, and the next over 23 GB free, AND it happened to be on the exact day I deleted the "placeholders" as you call them.

I never delete anything, let alone 4GB! How else could I lose/gain that much without knowing about it. I haven't installed anything new in ages either...
miraculously short amounts of time
It would have to be over a long period of time, of course--probably ever since the demo became available.

I'm telling you man...

If you're not aware of this you should be!!!

Just yesterday I found I had 4 GB more space on my HDD than normal, and to put it lightly I was shocked! I mean, 4 GB is quite a large sum to just disappear without notice or at least someone letting you know, right?

I finally realized what it was. The other day, I decided I was tired of seeing the HL2 Demo and CS source demo on steam, and I found you could delete them. What I didn't know, is that steam preloaded both of these, in full on my HDD, thereby chewing up my bandwith and HDD space without asking or even letting me know :|

Is it just me, or is this complete and utter bullshit??

Are all the compo maps currently on the server? Will they be made available after the results come in?

I think everyone's map who entered should have a link on the results page, and you should be able to post comments.

My 2 cents.

I always run with "full VIS". Try running with "VIS off" and notice how high your wpolys go! This is because without VIS or VIS with -fast, the engine renders everything at the same time, or too much at the same time in the case of using "fast VIS".

Running "Full VIS" also makes RAD run more efficiently I'm told.

Check here for a list of what all the compile paramaters do, for each compile stage...

Pretty nice. Whatever brush/vertex you have selected, you can move around with the arrow keys! Nice for lining up stuff while watching the 3D view, or just lining up stuff in general.

Now if they would only add this for texture alignment!

Nice representation lol!

You have to do it in expert compile

Click the "expert" button.
Underneath, click on the string that has "VIS" in it.
Under Parameters add: -full
Then compile.

Should be good to go.

Tosse: All I know, is the only way I can get the same exact error as the one your speaking of, is to have an incorrect path set for a sprite.

I haven't tested it, but if the sprite in question "lives" in your sprites folder in Hammer, perhaps that's why you can see it in-editor and not in the game--I'm grasping at straws here now Tosse!

Final word from me. Try not hitting the "browse" key either. In Hammer, you should simply have:

sprites/spritename.spr

And nothing else, unless you have a subdirectory for the sprites folder, which you should not ;)

Elon: Just tried it and my "glow3.spr" shows up fine. Unrelated probably: Some of my weapons models don't show up in-editor--3.5Beta--, but show up in the game just fine.

RegVac is perfect for most things, but not everything. Actually the only program I can think of that it didn't work for is Paint Shop Pro.

Thanks Kasperg :)

in Map vault idea, might help... Post #165858
LoL! At first I was going to agree with the Captain, but now I'm not so sure... Might be a bit more complicated than it would need to be, though I know when rating some maps, you definitley lump maps with the same rating that are not of equal quality, because the scale is too limited.

Makes no difference anyway, because you're still going to have jerks that rate an amazing map 2 stars, and the reverse...

in How can I make stuff fall on me? Post #165855
@darkphoenix_68: True, but you could use func_door rotating, make it "not solid", and use trigger hurts for damage.

Func_doors in cs can be made to be "passable" so you could do the same thing.

WCD: Could also use the "angular velocity" thingie, and have spinning, falling debris like the cork in Elon's Casa compo entry.
