There is no player model in HL2. You need to somehow fake is using models and animation. There was someone who managed to do it, but I forget where I saw it.

Rare doesn't own the rights to publish a James Bond game (even a port), Activision does. There's some licensing issues that stops Goldeneye appearing on either XBL or Wii VC. Multiple companies would need to co-operate.

Sony has a motion sensing thing too that they demoed. But nothing this generation will be a "Wii-killer", because the Wii targets a completely different audience.

Nintendo was the best because of Golden Sun <3
I find it funny that everyone's trying to do motion sensing now - Nintendo has the motion plus, MS have that camera thingie, and Sony have this glowstick thing.
Sony's conference was mostly about games, and Microsoft's was mostly about Xbox live and movie services. Both had major time contributing toward their "Nintendo catch-up" motion control hardware.
Nintendo's was mostly about Golden Sun. I don't remember anything else about it.

in left 4 dead too Post #267794
Been thinking about this, and I'm getting some conflicting information here.

First of all, as people have commented already, the player models look kinda crappy, which is very un-Valve-like. The counterpoint to this is that the original L4D models looked kinda rubbish too, but they changed them. The question to ask here is why not just use the original survivors? Also, why release media with crappy models?

Secondly, this is very, very, very fast for Valve, for something that they should have expected a rather long lifespan on. I mean, they're basically splitting their player base in two with a new game, as well as doing the complete opposite of what's happening with TF2.

These and a few other things make me think that this might be a joke, a fake, or a marketing stunt of some sort. But then there's loads of evidence to the contrary: it was announced at the Microsoft press conference, and do you really think that MS would allow Valve to pull a stunt like that? Also, now EVERYONE knows, I think it would be very difficult for Valve to pull off a reversal and reveal a "real" whatever without pissing the hell out of everybody.

And then there's the interviews, details, videos, etc. There's some obvious gameplay there that means that some serious work has been put into this. It's seriously confusing, and I think there will be more information revealed in the next few days. What that info will reveal, however, is unknown.

There's definitely something fishy going on.

Well I suppose the big news so far is that Valve have announced Left 4 Dead 2, for November release.

Press release here:
http://store.steampowered.com/news/2552/

Personally I think that this is all well and good if it doesn't split up the player base - i.e. L4D2 players can play with L4D1 players on the original campaigns. If it splits the player base, I will be disappointed.

Of course, I'll still be buying it :P

It's everyone's favourite electronic entertainment expo, E3!

Last year's E3 was very disappointing, but I have high hopes for E3 this year. I thought we should keep any discussion of it in the one thread.

What I hope we'll get:
  • Golden Sun 3 for the DS
  • Valve announce Ep3 for this year
What we'll actually get:
  • Wii fit 2, 3, and 4
  • Ubisoft releases 200 more "petz" games
  • Nintendo's conference sucks ass, again.
Anyway, E3. Are you excited?

I've had a broken PSU once - it started to heat up like mad and I kept getting "low power" messages from my graphics drivers. Took it out of my PC and I swear you could fry an egg on that thing. Cheap PSUs are scary :(

Also,
Why would the computer completely shut down if the case button connector was the problem?
If the button that turns the computer on isn't properly connected to the motherboard, nothing will happen when you press it. I've had the cable come loose on a computer once and it took me ages to figure out where the problem was because the case cables were hidden inside the cover.

If the computer won't turn on at all, it's either:
a) broken PSU
b) broken power cable
c) your PSU is turned off
d) broken connection between your case and your motherboard (so the 'on' button does nothing)

If the motherboard was broken, the PSU fan would still spin up, and the CPU would probably be spinning too. If you're not spinning, you're not getting power.

If you have another computer in the house most of these are easy to test.

That's a pretty shoddy way to implement a vault. Everyone knows that you should be able to get out from the inside. This would be taken into account when the vault was built.

Logic assumes that if the robber can lock the vault door from the inside, he also has some way to unlock it. If it's some numeric code or something that's not tangible, you can radio it in. The alternative is getting someone who can actually unlock the door without exploding it.

Played the demo and it's not bad. It's like a simplified version of a tower defence game. I'm considering getting it, but I don't think it should have the same price as World of Goo. It's not that good.

Also, cstriker, yet again, fails hard. Peggle is good, PvZ is good, and World of Goo is amazing, and those are all casual games. If you've ever played a flash game in your browser, chances are that it was a casual game. You don't need to kill shit to have fun. Grow up.

On a side note, because we're talking about gaming magazines, I read PC Powerplay, which is Australia's best PC gaming magazine. We don't get PC Gamer UK, only the US version which sucks balls. Even if I could get it, I'd still buy PCPP ^_^

I fail to see what reading gaming magazines have to do with playing casual games anyway.

Your arguments are immature and pointless. Furthermore, I think you misunderstand the purpose of being a moderator on a website. It has nothing to do with power, authority or being "better" than anyone. It has to do with keeping the rubbish out of a website. I don't know about anyone else, but I have never abused my admin powers, and I have never held them over someone's head as a threat, as you claim.

I'm going to "silence" this thread now. Say I have a god complex; say I'm abusing my authority; but honestly, you've turned a reasonably pointless thread into a pile of crap, and I, as a moderator, don't wish it to continue dirtying up the site.

Hmm. Time for a reality check, sir.

SHOCK: People do things to benefit others!
Example: the entire open source community.

HORROR: You don't have to be an expert in the field to comment on the quality of a product!
Example: I doubt many respected film critics have direced a film, and the same goes for any other media. Users of a program can instantly tell if the program is bad, because it doesn't do what they expect/want. Ever hear of the saying "the customer is always right"?

If you map for your own purposes, that's your business. In that case, you would be the only customer, and the hell with everyone else. But don't claim that others have no right to tell you their subjective opinions because you think you're better at mapping than them. Don't deny this, as you've already said it several times.
According to Penguinboy, all my input on other people's maps and mods should have showed some continuous "better than thou" attitude.
Don't make shit up.

I find it odd that i was more pissed off by cstriker using a capital B in my username than all this bullshit Mr. High-and-Mighty is vomiting out. Maybe because I know that he is a lost cause, and cstriker is fun to ban.

Anyway, all I can say in the end is I'm glad you left. In the time since you left, you've turned into more of an ass than myself, trapt, etc etc combined. Also, Strider is the LAST person I'd consider an asshole, he's one the most unbiased people on the site.

Note to everyone: If you ask for criticism, don't expect to be hearing good things about your map. Critics are basically there to point out bad stuff. For a greatly over-exaggerated example of this, see Zero Punctuation.

Not all communities need to be like facepunch to be "alive".

Furthermore, you've been here less than a year. How are you qualified to say if TWHL is "dying" or not? It's always been a small community, and as Grim said, the focus on Goldsource means that we're getting less and less interested people. IMO, TWHL will be alive as long as the webspace remains, and if it goes down, I'd try to find a way to get it running again.
