You'll soon find that the internet is full of assholes. Facepunch is one of the worst, but nearly all "popular" forums are packed to the brim with tools. One of the reasons I like TWHL is because everyone is friendly.

Those workstation video cards are always pricey. They're aimed at design programs like AutoCAD or modelling software like 3D studio. They aren't intended to run games and would probably run a game worse than a card 1/20th of the price.

Hunter: I'm not completely up-to-date with top range cards, but last I heard the top-end ATI card is better than the GTX280, but the Nvidia mid-range cards are still dominating the market.

Nvidia is better for cost/performance ratio for mid-range cards, which basically means that they're winning atm. The real competition isn't at the super high-end $1000+ cards.
Looks good satch, except use DDR2 RAM and spend the extra cash on a 9800GTX (or better).

I have never played a guitar game and have no wish to ever play one. Mostly because:
1. I'm not a "music" guy
2. I have no rhythm
3. I can't stand DDR games (see #2)
4. I don't like any of the songs in the games
What I don't understand is why there just can't be one of these games, and they just let you download the new songs. Every time you buy a new "version", you're buying the same game, and filling your house with more useless plastic instruments.
GH doesn't annoy me, but people who get 100% on a song or whatever and instantly think that they'd be awesome at IRL guitar piss me off.
Personally, I'd rather have a real instrument that I can't play then have two (or more) plastic ones lying around, looking extremely stupid. But that's just me.

The L4D demo has been updated now to fix the connection errors.
use the "openserverbrowser" console command and try joining through that.

Change filtering to bilinear, and keep AA at at least 2x. Games are so ugly without AA.I can't tell the difference. My recommendation would be to turn AA off and leave AF on whatever you want, because AA takes up a lot of processing power, but AF takes relatively little.
Use the steam .gcf defragger on all Source2007 games, and refresh TF2's local content.If you do refresh local content (it won't do anything) do it before defragging. Also, use GCFScape to defrag, not Steam.
The most important question is: what's your performance in episode 2? (compared to tf2)

you'll need someone else to test it for you, i think. if you host your own dedicated server, you should join it using this IP: 127.0.0.1, or through the LAN server browser. that's how i've always had to do it, anyway. never seen that specific error, i don't think.
Not really into casual games, but world of goo is indeed awesome. I also have geometry wars, if that counts.
