Exactly like that, blah blah blah...

THERE SHALL BE NO MOAR OFFICIAL COMPETITIONS UNTIL TWHL3!!!

...

Besides that, it's not the next compo is going to be based on what one member wants, much less one with no reputation.

Yeah, but trailers can take some time. Plus, even though a map may look complete in a screenshot, it's not necessarily that way in real life. The one screenshot I have released right now had to be carefully framed so that you couldn't see all the background work, and it wasn't in working condition at all... it just looked like it.

For me it always gives the brush number when I get that error, so I never really needed to know this... although I did at one point. :

If you have the brush number, you can go directly to the brush by going to Map > Go to brush.

No it won't Espen, you'll just get a bunch of invalid solid errors from that.

Rotating can be useful, and I use it some times, but it's not precise and I never recommend it to newbies.

They obviously still have the code, as the engine is still being updated on Steam all the time. Version 1.1.1.0 was not the last one, and several significant features have been added since then, namely Mp3 playing, bump mapping, and detail texturing.

I'm sure they'd care if it was leaked, or otherwise they would have just released it!

I'm also sorry, I meant to say heavily modified Quake 1 engine, meaning that you couldn't simply use code from Quake in place of Half-Life's. The whole engine was essentially renovated to a graphical level equal to that of Quake 2, which I suppose is why so many people get it mixed up.

When deleting private messages, instead of having that utterly useless page with an "OK" button on it, I'd like a page to confirm the deletion with "YES" and "NO" buttons. I feel what's there right now is pretty much pointless, but it could be put to some use.

Not rotate them, but build things at strange angles correctly, etc etc. There's no correct way to rotate things at angles, you just have to build them however they're going to be placed.

in Why does this happen? (Weird Geomatry) Post #225734
It would effect Half-Life 2, I just don't know how much, and Half-Life 2 uses models for most things anyway. Plenty of people make maps with stuff at angles, they just don't do it the cheap way by rotating things. Learn vertex manipulation.

Never rotate anything AT AN ANGLE. It's fine if you just rotate things 90, 180, 270, 360 degrees etc, because then their vertices are still on grid.

in Why does this happen? (Weird Geomatry) Post #225719
It's because you tried to rotate it at an angle. This is an extremely bad practice. It makes all the vertices of the rotated brush go off grid, and then it tries to lock them back on grid during the compile, but it usually fails and ends up like this. I see you've done the same thing to all the other cars in the background too. :

in help me using zoners wadinclude Post #225640
I don't get it, why are people still downloading these old versions of ZHLT? Get the new one, version 3.5! If you're using Nem's batch compiler, than it's probably an incompatibility you were having with the dated tools (read: December 9, 2002.)
Posted 17 years ago2007-06-19 03:08:18 UTC
in help me using zoners wadinclude Post #225628
Yeah, you can load up ZHLT in Hammer just the same as the Q-tools. Some people prefer batch compiling, but honestly I didn't think anybody wrote their own batch scripts up like that any more, when there's Nem's Batch Compiler. It's the most straightforward compiling method out there, and I don't think there's any way you could mess that up.
Posted 17 years ago2007-06-19 02:52:13 UTC
in help me using zoners wadinclude Post #225626
That IS how you do it with Zoner's. You can't do it without Zoner's tools, actually.

I think maybe you're confused about what ZHLT is. It just replaces the original compile tools, which are a set of files, with newer ones that have more advanced features. All you have to do is go into hammer and load them in the same way you loaded the original compile tools in. Go to Tools > Options on the Hammer toolbar, and then go to the Build Programs tab. In there you load up Zoner's tools in the directory fields where the old tools were selected.

Now I have no idea what that thing you typed up is, but all you need to do to wadinclude is go to the advanced compile mode in the compile window and type "-wadinclude" and then the WAD name in the CSG parameter box, just like Espen said.

Easy as pie.

in Can we make something like Megatexture? Post #225541
Actually, the point of Megatexture technology is to create huge expanses of terrain that don't have repetitive texturing, because that's obviously a huge problem with today's games. It's a brand new thing though, and I can't imagine why anyone in their right mind would think that Half-Life would be able to handle it. I can't personally see why you would even want it, since you can barely make convincing outdoor areas as it is, what with the lack of displacements, 3D skyboxes, and enough real estate to put it all in.

@Muzz: I think what Urb was asking was whether or not the maximum texture resolution for models was 512x512.

Also, the sounds can't loop without cue points. Depending on what WAV you're using, it may not have any (the WAVs for the weapons likely won't, but the gunfire sounds in the "ambience" folder should.)
