I am using the Poke646 texture set, and I'll be sure to check Max Payne out for reference.

Also, if Muzz wouldn't mind, I'd be more than happy to take on his chapter for him. He doesn't appear to be making much headway, and it would actually make my job easier, since I could connect the chapters more fluidly, and define the theme better. If that's not a possibility, I guess that's fine too, but one extra map with a couple cut scenes is hardly going to slow me down.

Just an offer. :)

And Kasperg, I'm going to need to work with you on the beginning of your chapter so ours flow together. Just don't get too far ahead with that yet, eh?

If I knew what kind of environments you were making, I might make a texture or two when I'm bored.

That'd be real nice if I could resort to that, but I'm not really doing those kind of places where that would work. If you've got any tips for building cities though, that would be nice. I'm having trouble making enough original architecture to fill all the different areas.

Err... It's obviously because you didn't block the view of that area well enough. By the way, nice looking map.

Yeah, it's impossible to time things EXACTLY right in this engine... just doesn't work that way, it's far too crude a technology. Plus, even if you could get the timings correct, func_trains tend to be very imprecise when they move, and can get jerky, or get offset easily. It's just unpredictable.

Well, you could just make a blank WAD and play the map without textures. It would be ugly, but you could get an idea of the general quality.

You could do that, but it wouldn't be pretty. In fact, that's about the hackiest mapping trick I've ever heard of.

Shakes fist.

Saddest thing ever. Some people just can't appreciate art, or understand what it is, for that matter.

I mapped a fair portion of my school once, and showed it at a project fair. Everyone there thought it was really cool, and the teachers had no problem with it. I'm thinking this isn't too wide spread a reaction, since lots of people have made maps of their schools before, and nobody has been arrested before for this.

On the subject of weapons in the kid's room, I have a hammer, a bunch of other sharp tools, a crowbar, and nunchucks in mine. Hope police don't have reason to search my house any time soon. :

P.S.

Its hard to tell a decent story in the HL engine. No cutscene videos or media, and voice acting is limiting.
I'm trying my best to prove you wrong on both accounts. :)

Small update:

I've been working on my car chase map almost all day, and it's nearly done, except for a couple bugs I need to iron out, a very short ending cut scene, and the audio (including voices.) After that, it's on to the larger part of my chapter, the city... /me silently dreads the thought of mapping a city

The strange thing is, he included HLDM, single player, and Counter-Strike maps, but he never even bothered to set anything up in liblist.gam, so the single player mode just starts like regular old Half-Life does. What an idiot.

To be honest, I'm kind of glad this happened. Finally, something interesting on TWHL.

The whole mod is basically just HLDM with custom stolen models and stolen maps. I don't know where he got all the custom sounds, but I doubt he made them himself. It seems all this guy has ever done is steal things.

I'd be suspect of that one. Not only does it only come with a CD (does that mean no CD key?) it's used, so it's likely that somebody has registered it. Just don't do anything crazy, like pay more for the WON version than you would have to to buy all those games on Steam.

Yeah, I thought the wind sounds were good, it's just that they were only coming from one point, which made no sense. Some weird kind of sound emitting from the lamps would have been cool, too.

Very very nice, but a bit cramped. It couldn't really be played with more than 4 people at once. It wasn't too different from your usual style, but that's alright with me. :)

The only thing I could think of that you could fix would be the ambient sounds. They're only coming from one point on the map, and it's horribly obvious with my 5.1 surround speakers.

I'm not going to bother pointing out what you did right here, since you did everything else as well as you normally do. I think my compliments would just seem redundant.
