Awesome, but it looks completely non-legit. The Vortigaunt is all... weird looking... plasticy. I don't know, something about it just tells me it's completely shopped. If it IS real, there was some major touching up done there.

Maybe just use a different glass texture. There's quite a few in halflife.wad that aren't used often.

Yeah, I'm looking all over these other sites for new info on it, and there isn't any. I don't know what Playbus was looking at, but there's absolutely nothing about him getting caught anywhere.

I think maybe what he meant was that IF he got caught he would be going to jail.

It wasn't an excuse, it's the truth. You know it is, and you just said it yourself. Unless there's something going on that directly impacts us in these sorts of places, it's likely it's not going to be covered by the media, or at least not to much extent. I never said it doesn't matter, I'm just giving reasons why it isn't being played up.
There are times like that indeed, but these things also happen in our sublime westren culture.
Oh really? And can you give any recent examples of when that's happened in our "sublime westren culture"?

It's not every day people go on rampages in schools and single-handedly kill 33 people, especially not in the US. The media loves to be able to cover that stuff when it happens, because it hits "close to home" for a lot of people. In places where violence is going on all the time, it's just kind of expected. You might think it's sad, and maybe it is, but it's the truth. I say, get over it.

P.S.

You don't think people have thought about it before?

Dave, if you don't like the content of the video, just don't watch it. Nobody's being hurt by them releasing it. In fact, I'd feel like the media was censoring something if it was never shown.

And yeah Mitcho, that's pretty lame. Plus, you said it twice. M-M-M-MONSTER FAIL!!!

My main project is the second chapter of Half-Life: Hostage Situation (which I'm sure you all know about), and my own project, Half-Life: FUBAR.

FUBAR is part of the Half-Life universe, set in Black Mesa. I'm not releasing much of any information about it, because I'm planning on doing that sometime after I finish my Hostage Situation chapter. Right now I've only completed portions of some of the maps, so I've still got a loooong way to go on that.

It's also my goal to finish at least one more Counter-Strike map, and a Half-Life Deathmatch map, but those projects always seem to die...

If you do find anything there, please link it, because I couldn't.

I don't believe anybody has the Alpha version of Half-Life anymore, or any of its content (models, etc.), probably not even Valve. That version was scrapped way back in, what, 1997? So anything you find isn't going to be real Alpha content, just a recreation of it.

There's only one kind of clip brush, and it's been around since the dawn of GoldSrc. What he has there is a brush with the invisible blue texture on it, and it's turned into a func_wall with the Render Mode set to "solid" and FX Amount set to "255". This blocks players AND bullets, which is why you should use CLIP brushes in situations like this. They only block player movement.

in Textures Question Post #219209
What CS textures are you talking about? In CS, everything does seem substantially smaller, as your point of view is set lower, so using the default Half-Life textures can be problematic as far as scaling goes. you'll have to use the texture application tool if you want stuff like doors to be scaled better, but I wouldn't recommend scaling textures below 1.00 on large faces, such as walls. For most applications, it's best to use textures that are the right size by default.

Not sure if that answers your question, I had a bit of trouble understanding you.

Besides being a shitty "IDEA!!!", it's also completely pointless, and beside the point. All you're doing is telling him to go back to Windows XP. He could do that with the high end laptop he has now, why buy a Mac for it?

In conclusion, your logic fails.

Then it has the ability to change at a maximum of 40 times per second, but that doesn't mean it's changing at that pace all the time. No, the pixels only change when something on the screen changes, and even then, it doesn't "scan" the screen the same way CRTs do. That's why LCDs don't hurt your eyes.

I'm pretty sure you already got that, but just clarifying. ;)

Used to have the same problem in 3.3, but no more is that annoyance. And you know, just because it was doing it in 3.3 doesn't mean it has nothing to do with your modified Hammer.

Kasperg, you're using an LCD monitor. Those things don't have refresh rates, and don't flicker, because there's no scan lines like CRT screens use. If nothing changes on the screen, the pixels don't change. CRTs constantly refresh the image in extremely fast sweeps, no matter if the image on them on them changes or not. This is why you see those weird scan lines when you're looking at CRTs through a video camera, and why you don't if it's an LCD. Yes, an LCD has a response time, but it's not the same thing as a refresh rate, where it's constantly updated.

And about the TV thing, no. I don't have a problem with a regular TV, but then again, I'm not sitting 1-2 feet away from it for hours on end.

You should get MSVC++ 6.0, which is what Valve used. It's expensive, but just find a torrent.
Haha, dude, they don't even sell that anymore. If there's any one thing you SHOULD torrent, it's this. Short of buying it second-hand on eBay or something, there's no way to purchase this legally.

Yeah, I mean, it was in Alpha stage. This was no complete product. The maps may have not even linked together yet, and it likely didn't have any kind of a cohesive story.

You're just dreaming, I can assure you. Valve doesn't do stuff like this, they have very high standards of quality. If this even had the slightest chance of happening, it would have been done long ago, not today, when interest in the first Half-Life games has decreased dramatically. It just wouldn't make sense, but you can keep wishing as long as you want. The fact is, it's never going to happen.

I doubt very highly that they kept it, and I'm convinced they would never release it if they did. Certainly not because of some stupid petition (those things never do anything.) Besides, they ditched that version for a reason: It sucked.

The hwgrunt model is actually included in the PAK or GCF file of Half-Life (I forget which one) and I was able to extract it. The model of the grunt is the same as the one used in Sven Co-op, but I'm not sure about the the minigun, because I haven't played Sven in a while. His model was also used in the mod Sweet Half-Life, although the weapon he was carrying had been replaced.
That's just the very early HL beta screenshots (when HL was just a Q2 mod).
Quake 1 mod, actually. ;)
