384MB RAM
This is most likely the indirect cause of your problem.

The direct cause might be a problem with your pagefile (or hard disk itself) which with only that much RAM, Vrad is going to be forced to use on a map of any size and/or detail, especially if you are using many different textures.

Or you might not really have a problem, and Vrad might just hate having to page at all.

I'd wager a RAM upgrade would get rid of this problem.

Yeah.

I'm pretty sure you can only get away with one monitor.

You can have numerous camera's but only one monitor (per map)

Which kinda screws with both teams having a monitor.

in Hammer CS:S water does not appear ingame Post #231327
The water not appearing might not be because of a leak though.

It's just quite likely that it is a leak.

As Kasperg said, there are a few other things that can cause it too.

Or you could just load the pointfile. Which will draw a line, pointing to the leak in Hammer.

How does it work?
Well on a technical level, I don't really know. But I've tested it out, and it seems to work. For me, vmex just crashes while trying to decompile a map with this set of brushes in it.

in Protecting bsp's Post #231200
Download this file. It's a tiny vmf with 3 brushes in it.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/3q70zc

Don't alter the brushes in any way at all. Copy and paste them exactly as they are into your map. Obviously, put them somewhere the player(s) can't see.

vmex will then be unable to decompile your map. Try it...

It is still possible to decompile maps protected in this manner, but it's much harder to accomplish. Unfortunately, this doesn't protect materials and models etc.

in Bridge Collapse in Minneapolis. Post #231186
My wife is from Minnesota. Almost her whole family live there still, and used the bridge regularly. I was on that bridge myself only 18 months ago.

Thankfully, we were relieved to hear that they are all fine. There was a moment of panic, though.

My sympathies go out to all those families who weren't so lucky.

Every face textured with hint counts as a hint. So if you texture a whole solid with hint, then vis treats that as 6 hints (assuming it's a cube).

So texture the whole thing with skip, except for the one side you actually want to be the hint.

Warning: === LEAK in hull 0 ===
Entity infodecal @ ( 31, 64,-1172)
Error:
A LEAK is a hole in the map, where the inside of it is exposed to the
(unwanted) outside region. The entity listed in the error is just a helpful
indication of where the beginning of the leak pointfile starts, so the
beginning of the line can be quickly found and traced to until reaching the
outside. Unless this entity is accidentally on the outside of the map, it
probably should not be deleted. Some complex rotating objects entities need
their origins outside the map. To deal with these, just enclose the origin
brush with a solid world brush

Leak pointfile generated
You've got a leak.

Load the pointfile (check Hammer's menus) and it'll draw a line in hammer showing you where it is.

But, can you understand why I am so angered and fed up these days?
Yup.

I agree that certain major governments are full of shit and are quite possibly trying to build a huge prison for us all.

I agree that there are a lot of very sick people in positions of power who completely have their own agenda and don't give a shit about anyone else.

I agree that the media is one big pile of steaming crap.

I agree that most people in heavily populated areas of the US and the UK (other countries too, but these mainly right now) are being subjected to conditioning, to accept what is happening. Actually, this area is of particular interest to me personally, and I have closely studied aspects of it. The advertising industry is an extremely interesting thing to study, and the methods they use are far, far more complex and more relevant than even you probably think. The supermarket that you (might) shop at uses many techniques to direct you in particular ways which the media also uses to induce acceptance in the population.

I think it's a very bad thing, and also very suspicious, that "conspiracy theories" are pushed aside by the majority as "insane", because in a society that claims to uphold scientific principles (with regard to what is true and what is not) that doesn't stand up.

Everything should be considered, no matter how ridiculous the face value maybe.

But that includes you considering things you might not like.

Simply in the name of fairness.

If you're not fair in your calculation, then you can't deliver a result which will convince many people.

So, I do agree with you.

I just urge you to re-consider how you present your views to others.

I hope you do, and that you win widespread support and become US president.

:)

...The truth hurts
Thing is, Jahzel, you don't know the truth. You're making assumptions based only on your own feelings, which are almost certainly biased and incorrect.

In principle, I actually agree with you on much of what you say about the state of the world.

But I think your attitude towards the whole thing is terrible and it seriously puts you across as a bit of an idiot.

You can't possibly be wrong about anything, and anyone who disagrees with you (or your attitude) gets insulted.

And that's why we've never had a serious debate. Because you're just not ready for real debate. You're ready to regurgitate what you read on the internet to others and shout at them that it can't possibly be wrong, just because it makes sense to you.

You're not part of the solution Jahzel. You're part of the problem. And if you can't see that, it just makes it worse in the long run.

You're not helping the truth movement. At all.

Have you even read the whole PP article?
Yes.

It proves nothing, and cites only other sources which also prove nothing.

"He said, she said" -- as Dave said
So inform yourself.
You appear simply to have leapt to a conclusion, and become so convinced by your "research" (which is more than likely limited to reading stuff on the internet) that you are now unwilling to accept other views on the subject.

You're the one who is un-informed.

The video on it's own is so out of context it's unreal.

It's like a chart full of statistics. You can dress it up to look like anything you want.

Truth is, you don't know what happened before the event. PP doesn't even link to the video itself, let alone any real explanation.

This article is a prime example of journalistic writing designed to provoke a response from the un-informed.

Just like many BBC articles.

we tried fog, but it didn't seem to make much difference to the fps.
How did you use the fog? The fog on it's own won't help performance, but what you do is effectively set a maximum draw distance for the map so that only things within a certain distance of the player are rendered. You then use the fog to hide this happening from the player.

If you knew this already, sorry. If you didn't and you would like more specific help, then PM me.

I think it looks pretty neat. The buildings look nice, although I'd put a little more detail into some of the roofs.

It seems a bit empty, but this isn't as much of a problem in multiplayer, as it will be filled up by other players. And of course, I realise you may already have plans to add more stuff.

I think you have too many individual lights in pictures 5 & 7. You could light the areas more realistically with only one or two lights.

Sorry.

Just Arnhem is one of my very favourite historical campaigns. So I can't help but think of it when I hear the phrase "A bridge too far" which is a common nickname for it.

I'm assuming you've func_detailed as much as you can already and put the obvious hint brushes in.

You could also use occluders and triggers to stop models being drawn when they don't need to be. I am not sure how this works in multiplayer, but you don't really have a lot of options with wide open spaces other than making your brushwork as efficient as possible, and not using very demanding entities.

Or you could use fog.
