So was there no sunken sub map? I'm glad I thought on something original per chance. Also it's possible in source, you just need to find some way to block the player from getting to the 'open ocean'. Cause then he'll discover he is in a small cube or something like that, not an endless ocean.

If you want to make something original first think of what you wont usally see in a source map. Most Hl2 maps I've seen are of ruined cities with combine bases in, so having that will certainly wont be original. Also making a desert wont be original. After I remove all these option I thunk of whats left and if it was frequently done in other games.

In CS:S there are plenty of offical maps and most unoffical maps are replicas of the offical ones, or just crappy. Making a map unlike and offical map will be original. Now was there any underwater map in any of those two games? I am thinking of a base under the water with glass for walls and ceiling so you can see in many places the thing that happen around. Maybe there will be a part that you can exit the underwater base. Maybe it can be a sunken sub or ship, with an area sealed so no water can come in, your choice. :) How I think of these ideas after I found out what not to map... I don't know.

I sometimes do think why the heck do I hang here around with a bunch of ultranerds, just to get insulted by them.

Anyway, I sometimes feel lucky I'm no american, but then I remember it's worse where I live. :P This hilary is nothing toward the fake southern accents I hear everyday.

If Hl2 has clip brushes you can place them inorder to make it solid, or maybe a nodraw brush... :

Oooo... just compiled it for the second time. I wouldn't use rimrooks ultimate r_speed cytalyst on maps with single rooms, it raised my r_speeds by 900 instead of decreasing them.

Overall I can say my map is way too dark but I can't really change that now, I already compile all the times I'm allowed by my brother. The map is quite dark, if I would have raised the brightness of all the torches to 100 instead of 75 it would have looked alot brighter and still nicer. Yet this darkness gives a cool gloomy and creepy feeling. Gets you in a mood and you feel like you really are in a time when the lighting wasn't efficent- before the electric light bulb. Also it high lights the areas that are brilliently lit, like the body of water in the middle and the statue. Oh well. :tired:

Hey my computer is so funny. It runs a 800 wpolies map on 20 fps, and it also runs a 5000 wpolies map on 20. Strange thing, but it's better then what I expected, I thought my map wont run. :glad:

My room has a normal of 2000 wpolies and when looking from one side to the other 5000. Now for the final compile! :) I'll need help with hosting, the bsp is much bigger then the map file... 3mb! And it's not all, I also have models, sprite and wav. : I assume that in the zip it'll be approximetly 4mb.

1MB silly, but you can always post the zip in the map vault.(the zip will hopefully wont be as big as the bsp) :P

So if you only submit that bsp I believe it will be possible to submit it strightly into the compo. ;)

Does that site include quake1 and 2, these are the only fps games I play now. They might look a bit uglier then Hl1 but they are faster paced, I love fast paced games, and Hl1 isn't that fast. :)

Do I have to create a minimod if I have costum textures, sounds and models? : I remember what happened last compo I entered, nobody managed to get the mod working so in the end their placed everything in the Hl1 directories. I fear it might happen again though I use steam now.

It only has a single room with 1782 brushes, that might give you an impression of what kind of room it is. :furious:

I have a tiny problem, I have a test on the 11, in mathmatics. Could you let me submit it a little later, I'd like to finish this map and I'm sure it'd would be a shame if I wouldn't finish it but I don't want it to intefere with my studies especially mathmatics. :cry:

Please give me another two days, in which I will fill the days I will study, please don't make this little map ruin my grades, I love this map very much, it is the very first one I'm proud of. Please I'm begging you seventh.

I know I'm talking of my reactor's core. ;) It'll be nice if you'll be able to see all the parts after you've placed them in the portal. Like a place for the battries...ect

I think I have an idea of what I should do. When you arive into the main room with the reactor core. First you'll need to shut down the securty system then the safty shield, which will be quite close, only needs alot of fighting to get to. Then you need to go to another level shutdown the coolent system and when you'll get there you'll see it exploding and the whole place destroyed. Lasers will be shot from the reactor and you'll need to get by them to the reactor, through all the debris and open it. If you open it before you'll be killed because of the heat, and you couldn't shut it down from reasons I didn't really think about, just want to see it destroyed. Then you take that piece of equipment and have 60 seconds to leave the compound.

Sorry his computer his buggy so he can't export to Halflife and he is also buzzy. Thats what he told me when I asked him for some models. I've tried to get some help but it seems most modeler are busy... I almost didn't manage to get the models in the end.

I'm going to try to make some models myself, since the regular grunt doesn't fit my theme too well.

if you want to make the button target another thing then just make those two things with the same name.

or

You can check TWHL's multimanager tutorial and see how to make it work. The multimanager has two adventages:
1. It can target objects with diffrent name.
2. You can set a delay before the manager will trigger the object.

The only bad thing about it is that it can only target 16 objects but you can always make it target another multimanagers. I once had to use 3 for one little lousy elevator... though it was cool! 12 parts, including glass and stuff. I also made it target sounds and other effects so I ended up with 40 times I needed to trigger stuff.

I think the name of that 'name' value in the stupidedit is 'targetname'. Hope it helps since in the smartedit there is no name value, even in spirit.

Make the button target the ambient(you know how to give something a name and target it) and make sure the start silent is activated unless you want the ambient to start playing from the begining. And the is not toggled flag means- is not looped.

Oh yeah, I always like over powered enemies. Come on I bet you don't hear anything before he shoots and his shots are probebly instantly hit the target, like all the other enemies in Hl1. If you can't change code that don't make such over powered enemies. You can't make them aim at the place you wew 0.1 second ago or something, nor you can make their shots slower or some warning sound a moment before they shoot, and that they shoot at the place when that sound were heard. This way you can't make them fight you in open space because they'll always hit. This means your map will have slow gameplay, which I despise.

You should also make use of the archer fish model(archer.mdl), it is very nice, always wanted one like it to shoot spikes like that pit drone in opfor, but that requires coding.

Maybe somebody from TWHL can do that, after all some of the AI can be found in Hl1- ichy and some can be found in opfor or sven co-op- pit drone. ;)

Maybe we can make a small func_tank that shoots them and follows the fish, but it wont look just as good.
