And there could be a small town nearby, where most of the creatures/weapons are. Mostly in the hunting store and police station. (rifles and pistols, in that order.) That would be soo cool. Then the army comes in and nukes the town to "Contain" The invasion. The players could use an old cold war bomb shelter, then a lot of tanks show up from the radiation! :^_^:
EDIT: Re-reading that, it can start in one town, then move to another with a different archetectual style, if you pardon my terrible spelling.

If you have extra cash, get better speakers, graphics card, second monitor, more memory, RAM ect. (people still use Graphics cards, right? mine's a few years old, and my brother built it.)

Uh... Lemme see... 6. And untill now, I've never has this problem. I'm not even doing anything that takes a lot of RAM or CPU, just CSG and BSP, but it crashes as soon a CSG begins...

I get this weird bug, and I don't know what it is... When is press compile, hammer crashes whithout an error message. I'm using: ZHLT Final Build, Spirit of Half-life 1.5a, and Hammer 3.5. I haven't changed anything, and it just popped up for no reason. I even tried replacing ZHLT with copies from the ZIP, and Starting hammers Gameconfiq.wc from scratch. And ideas?

EDIT: Acually, just DL it here: http://www.goannasvencoop.com/sphinx/FTP/mods/spirit_of_half-life/ It has my guarentee for 1.5a to work! Oh, and it has some reskins for I think 2 of the weapon models, just delete all the V_ models unless they have new names.

That's Because soliders know what it's like to see someone die in front of them, and don't want innocent people to die (unlike terrorists, who would yell that)

Well, I haven't finished downloading my copy of HL2, let alone Source SDK, and I doubt I'll be able to untill I get a High-speed internet connection, as steam CRASHES every time i try to update it.
EDIT: I'm gonna try blender, I assume it works for HL.

It's only temporary, though. And not healthy in 500000+ mg doses.
L4D does seem REALLY good though. Makes me wish my steam accound didnt crash while updating.

Oh... That... May help with ALL the models I want to change teh meshes on (I wanted to make a few Barnies that looked like soliders, but got massive errors about bone names...) I am such a N00b about modeling... :death:
EDIT: Im putting this here for the sake of saving space; Today Milkshape stopped working. It says my trial period is up, but I only got it on the day of the first post in this thread. Any suggestions/ideas on how to fix this, or alternate model editors? (I have no credit card, by the way)
EDIT2: Unless anyone happens to have a HD scientist model without ID tags and HD Barney Hands I could reskin...

Your idea does resemble Left4Dead, exept L4D has no HL Universe ties. Really though, I bet at least 1 other person (exept the people who thought up L4D) Has had a similar idea. Just like when you make an essay that has no (intentional) plagirisim in it, then someone else handed in a similar essay a few yars ago, and you get slapped for cheating. I'm sure thats happened to someone before. It is a really good idea though, and even if ValvE did'nt steal it, I have to admire you for having such a great whopper of an idea. Maybe you could make a MOD for L4D, and add your ideas to it. ;)

yup. Sph!nx's site it a great place for Spirit Downloads. If you're looking for a newer version, you can get it there too. that includes the custom builds with silenced weapons and a beeping RPG.

You could have a smaller, nodraw func_physbox or more that one, all parented to each other, can't you? Maybye you could make the wall hollow? (2 units thick?) I don't know much about source mapping, but just a few thoughts.

EDIT: Tried the shotgun, did'nt work, Im going to search the QC further for any more lines about Hitboxes.
EDIT2: Nope. None. However, I forgot to mention it was the Unregistered version.
EDIT3: Okay. I renamed ALL the "arm" bones/joints in the shotgun model .SMD, and It compilled. The weapons are held a bit weirdly, relative to the arms, but it's close enough for my liking. Admins, you have my go-ahead to close this thread.

Hey. I just got Milkshape 3D, and am trying to make a Hgrunt Model using two custom weapon models. I have the new AR done, but I can't get the shotgun. I keep getting the error illegal parent bone replacement in model "SPAZ_ref"
"Bip01 R Hand" has "Bip01 R Arm2", previously was "Bip01 R Forearm"
Please tell me what is causing this and how to fix it. (beleive me, I tried)

I used to get that all the FREAKIN' time! In spirit you can prevent it, but... WHY would you WANT it? (I guess it looks cool, though) In spirit you could probably parent an env_sprite to a func_train if you want a "Guide" Effect like in OP4.

Click on 'em once, and you'll see three little box-things come up. at first, only the middle is avalible, normal attack. evetually you'll get force attacks and grenades. once you've gotten a full bar of moves at the bottom for every member of your party, unpause the game and do everything else in realtime if you wish. Healing is a force power and an item. they're selected at the bottom, near the portraits. once you get some items, you'll see which buttom down there uses what. Now, It'll be a few hours of gameplay at least before you get the force, but the blue bar across from your red (health) bar is force points. they always regenerate, and there are items you can use to speed it up.

OK. when you're fighting, click on an emimy to target them, and choose whitch attack you want to use. (you'll need to equip a blaster or vibroblade if you're at the begining, I suggest a blaster) when you level up,go to the character view menu and select level up. Automatically doing it is bad, as you have no say in what you use your points for. it's actually easy when you get used to it. oh, and press space to pause/unpause, and click a character portrait in-game to switch to them. Hope I helped. PS: try not to delete your files, as doing the same first planet 5 times gets EXTREMELY teidus.
EDIT: Use stims and shields for boss fights, and save OFTEN!!!

The console would be awsome. I'd always had Buddha on, and definetly use model "goodlookingperson" and howabout this for a custom console code: sv_rememberallcodes 1, to make sure I never forget a code I want to use.

For my, and future user's refrence, does anyone know of a good shareware/freeware program that can make logo files for MODs? I can remember using MS paint once, and saving it as a .LOG or whatever I had read the files were saved as, but it never worked...

I was GOING to suggest that, but it's generally frowned upon, especially if you release the map again. plus decompillers mess it up bigtime. some delete brushes, some fill the entire map with brushes, and all screw up texture alignment... Why do you even need 10? I'd have thought the ship would come with at least 15 for the bigger maps...

Okay. First, You need a Prop_door_rotating. add that in, then in the "Model"... Option...Thingy... search for "Door" when you have found a door model you want, exit the browser, and try the other options. they will set sound, if im not mistaken, and your choice of handles. place the door in Ur frame, and compile. I belive this is the right way to do it, but im no source mapper, can't handle the download on steam. anyway, hope I helped a bit. :combines:
EDIT: OH! and props_doors/door01_dynamic.mdl doesn't work as a door, only npc_furnitiure.

Hmmm. Im not sure that would work... I have also found 1.7's trigger_changelevel doesnt work with its "Use only" flag. and as I have no coding compilers or experience, I guess the server will have to just load the maps like in any other MP mod... so connecting them is out. Thanks anyways guys.

Everyone who uses spirit knows you can get monsters to show up in multiplayer, but does anyone know if you can set up a client-side map change, in MMO style? eg. you begin in a building, and load a new map when you leave, but other players stay in the building. I know transitions are possible, thanks to sven coop, but is there a non-coding way to do it client-side? thanks in advance.
