Tetus0 i would totally go with a bigger hdd, who cares if you go a little over budget. I would even sacrifice the 7200 speed to get a 5400 twice the size. With the size of programs 160 is entirely insufficient imo. (my own computer only came with a 200GB@7200, i've been using it for only a month or so and i'm almost full.) I'm buying a 320GB drive for my rigs spare bay as soon as i get some extra cash and buy some other things i need first.
Satchmo: i would totally go ddr3 with that system, but that's just me. I mean everything else is top of the line, why stop at the memory?

Habbs: an astute observation that is unfortunately not correct. I actually have utorent installed now but didn't then... besides, why would i feel like i have to block it when btorrent is sticking out like a sore thumb in two different spots and also bshare? K. I've extracted all the bmps from the half-life folder for a project i'm undertaking, and trying to organize them by filename. I started, searching for everything with a fift in the filename and copy and pasted to a subfolder called fifties.
Only problem is it only recognizes those that begin with "fif..." and ignores anything with any sort of prefix such as: -0, -1, etc. Shouldn't the search yield anything with a fift in the filename, regardless of whether it's at the beginning or not?! I can't find any options in "Advanced" search either...

Oh yeah i forgot in my post to also recommend a xp/vista dual boot configuration. It's not crucial though i guess becuase you can upgrade to vista whenever you need or have to eventually.

I see you already started building, but earlier i would have said for the money, considering you're still WAY under your original budget, i'd recommend a raid configuration for the HDD. This way, you never ever have to worry about backing up your stuff. ever.)

For starters try shutting down hammer and any other programs before you run the half-life. (If you're using hammer to compile which i assume you are check the "don't run game" checkbox in the compile dialog window.

you mean in my gfx options? i've heard of doing that to take manual screen captures off video and dvds... would probably work but i just think it's gay i never had to do it before. Maybe i can set up a profile that HL will run with hardware acceleration off?

I just set up my vista rig to map and everything runs/compiles fine, but i find print screen doesn't work--it just yields a black square the size of my resolution.
Using f5 to snap bitmaps through Half-life still works but i'd rather not do it that way. (i usually use print screen, alt-tab out of the game, and paste in my editor to check it)

you're using -nowadtextures with a LOT of textures... doesn't that include the entire wad of any wad you've accessed, into your bsp? maybe try turning off that option to see if it gets rid of the error? = /

Small profile glitch that has probably already been mentioned:
When you backup from looking at a user's single map page, it sends you to the profile table of contents rather than the map table where you began... not a big deal but a distraction just the same, especially if you're thumbing through lots of maps...

Quite possibly too a Russo-Chinese alliance might be in the cards as is mentioned in many historical and science fiction books, and it makes sense if you think about it...

i agree with others use compilator or nem's or at least try them. use of the struct command described in Seventh-Monkey is also helpful in setting up your configurations.
after reading the compile log it looks like everything compiled correctly tho besides the weird "lights.rad" error maybe a quirk with the qtools or post a link to your radfile for fun...
