You can't have monsters targeting a multisource directly. Instead, have the headcrabs trigger a button or a trigger_relay which triggers the multisource. In other words, have something in between.

looks like you've put a lot of work into this as Urbanebula said and i agree. That said i think this mod deserves custom textures or even souped up original textures. Nothing is more of a letdown than seeing the same goddamn "fifties" "lab" and "generic" textures over and over and over again. (i know you said you want to keep it "simple" but come come what is simpler than wadincluding the textures?)

Still also, like urban said, really good work... the stuff just in that video would take me months to do! = )

in random leaf saws Post #258384
leaf saws are tricky and possibly one of the most annoying and hard to diagnose errors in goldsource editing(imo). the best way to combat them is to backup your work often so you can just go back if you can't find the problem. (I notice you said you went a few steps back, but maybe you didn't go back far enough before the leaf-saws were occuring)

Here are some other things you might try or keep in mind for leaf saws (if you still can't fix it upload the map and i'll look at it for you if you like):

--"Warning: Leaf portals saw into leaf
Problem at portal between leaves 477 and 502:
   (-150.000 -1890.400 320.000)
(-166.131 -1877.598 -64.070)
(-166.052 -1877.558 -64.070)
(-165.957 -1877.515 -64.000):" ERROR:
Caused by a bad brush, whether you or Hammer did it, lol! = )

A good portion of the time, this error comes up erroneously, sometimes on even the simplest architecture, inexplicably. These dreaded Leaf-saw errors are interrelated to many other errors in Hammer compile, which makes them especially infuriating and hard to diagnose and quantify.

Disappearing Brushes and HOM can be the cause of a single one of these "leaf-saw" errors. Multiple Coplanar errors (Coplanar Plane errors on every brush in your map) can be caused by one leaf-saw error. If you have a problem in your map, check the compile log... there is probably a "leaf-saw" error!

These Errors alone are the reason I constantly back up my levels. They can cause your whole map to be uncompilable and/or extremely difficult to find the problem.

FIXES:

-VIS -full. Many "leaf-saws" that come up in FAST and NORMAL VIS will disappear in FULL.

-copy/paste method. copy the whole map into a new .rmf file, recompile.

-Func_walling. Find the bad brush or brushes and make them func_walls (make them illusionaries if you have a tight clipnode budjet).

-revert to an earlier, error-free version

-eliminate any structures/brushes outside the compilable area of your map (even if they are nulled they can still possibly cause this and other problems).

-sometimes rotating multiple complex objects causes this error, especially using "ctrl-m" to move them. Try shift-rotating instead, or rotating less objects at a time.

-Some other errors may erroneously cause leaf-saw errors. Make sure there aren't any other "problems" with your map you might be overlooking!

-The simplest, most innocent looking structure can potentially be the culprit of your leaf-saw error, and can erroneously spawn additional leaf-saw errors. A lot of time working fast in hammer you can alter a brush VMing without even realizing you have with one slip of the mouse! Find the culprit brush and kill it!

-If none of this helps, divide your map into quadrants and temporarily delete sections, then compile and see if the error comes up (ctrl-z to undelete ok parts, or export to another map). once you've narrowed it down to one quarter of the map, it should be a lot easier to find the bad brush or brushes.

srry: Looks quite nice and again nice to see people still modding goldsource(that is, if you do and you're still working on it). I would bitch about the original textures but it looks good.

It's finally a reprieve from work, so i'm actually going to try to build a puzzle entry in the time left and in source, for which i've only made 3 maps in my entire life...

k so i guess the distribution should include something like:

goldsource
-Compile tools (so we all use the same version)
batch script from captain p (plus decide on compile switches for vis and rad)
A map and wads i guess if we need them?

source
i really don't know since i'm pretty new to source. afaik everyone
uses the standard tools and compiler, or can you use batch scripts for source too? Just pick a map or maps and we should be good? (somebody who maps for source a lot should pick...)

We choose 1 or more source maps, and 1 or more goldsource maps, and everyone "take them home" to compile and report your compile times/system specs, all with the same compile settings, compiler, etc of course.

Might be fun to see how your computer ranks... we could list member name and computer specs and compile time, etc...

We also might just use 1 big map from each engine, or 1 small, medium, and large one from each to get more interesting info... i dunno, what do you think?

in Hammer 3.x => Hammer 3.5 Post #254905
Found a fix in a fpsbanana tutorial for the camera reorienting into nothingness land when you open your map, mentioned earlier, by using a camera.

Hit the camera button and place/move a camera to the center of your map. then aim it straight down and above the center of your level, or where ever you want it to point.

From now on when you open the map it should remember the last spot your camera was looking at (as long as you saved) and not to the edge of the grid and emptly space land! This saves you a step by not having to drop the view menu and click "center on 3d selection" every time you open your map.

I think you can reorient back to that camera view at any time, but i don't know how to do that yet! (if somebody knows more about cameras, please post!)

Wow now that i've found all my goldsource editing tools work on my x64 vista machine--I totally thought they wouldn't--, i guess i'm not pigeon-holed into mapping for source, but i would really don't want to waste my time mapping for a dying engine. I hope i have the patience, and Hammer 4 does not push me over the bullshit threshold too soon. :/

edit:
(preface: i want to thank everyone for being helpful and putting up with my rants so far. I hope i get used to the new quirks sooner than later. thanks for allowing me to vent. = ) )

And the list continues...

-Fun with window states!

I remove the texture bar from the right toolbar from the "View" menu using the "Screen Elements" thingie, and every fucking time i open texture properties, fucking presto! Hammer restores the texture bar right back for no reason.

I mean why even have screen elemtents toggle if Hammer just magically restores them at will? What. The. Goddamn. Fuck?! (turning hammer off/on does the same thing as some kind of sweet bonus, which is pretty cool i'm not guna lie)
-They carried Carving over from 3.x to 4!!

Wow what a crucical function that i used all the time in 3.x... I mean, wtf would i do without the goddamn carving utility!!!

I mean, they remove crucial functions and optionality i took advantage of on a constant basis, but they keep the fucking carving. Carving: the worst, most stupidest, most useless piece of flaming dogshit to ever grace an editor on twenty habitated worlds. I mean, why woudln't they?
I have to ask now, is hammer 4 open source or is there any way i can edit the functions!? I'll totally learn to code just to add some functions like the show-all button, and some other things. Totally serious.

Is there a bitch list that valve pays attention too tha they might actually update it? I really fucking doubt they'll listen to anything i have to say, but whatevs i'll try.

I just started source mapping and right off the bat i'm becoming a bit agitated. (a bad day to run out of cigarettes) I searched the forum but didn't find these items addressed. (is it me or the god-awful search function?) List of questions so far:

-the back clipping plane distance is soooo short. Even turned all the way up, i can barely see an eighth of my map and {it is not a big map). Is there some way to make the clipping distance larger? Seemed like in hammer 3.x you could view the whole editing space if you wanted.

-No shift rotate for 15 degree rotations?

-you have to be logged on to steam to edit your maps... how fucking stupid, and my offline mode fails almost every fucking time i try it.

-Stupidly long Compile times for a stupidly small map. wtf? i could compile the most absurdly complicated map on my old machine in under 10 minutes and this is taking 5 minutes to compile an almost empty box of nothing? What the goddamn fuck? :rawr:

-Hide selected/hide unselected/show-all: there is no fucking show-all button!?

I don't want to go backward, and retreat to the comfort/familiarity of goldsource mapping, but PLEASE tell me there are some fixes for some of the above mentioned!?
