Exactly. Take your time on a map, make it look really nice, and youll gain more credibility that way. Just submitting maps really fast and filling the vault isn't a good way to get yourself good marks here.

I can play all my 3rd party mods: Asheep, Firearms, HL Elite, Hunger, Invasion, NS3, Poke646, POV, Redemption, Science and Industry, SoHL and The Specialists. OpFor CTF does not show up on my list, even with it installed. I just ran it with -game gearbox and it works fine.

NooooooO!

No more OpFor CTF :( . That was my favorite HL multiplayer mode. Hopefully, they bring that back in Source, they certainly didn't support it with Steam.

It still does. Comes with Plat'num pack, I think OpFor came with Generations. They sold it standalone in 2000 or whenever it came out, too. I remember seeing Calhoun on the shelf right there with Shepard and Gordon and the Counter-Strike dudes.

I like Uplink too...had some really nice details in it, and was part of the 'c3a1' level series originally, so its interesting to see how that fits into the bigger game.

You could add the sound file to the sentences.txt, but you have to include a copy with your map.

If you don't wanna do that, you could use an ambient_generic but then the sci's mouth doesnt move.

mapper_man, what Haz is saying is that people have worked hard to write guides and tutorials on the subject being asked, but instead of spending a few extra minutes on Google or the forum search, we see another topic of a question responded to and explained before. Needless to say, this is dissapointing, to say the least, to the article and tutorial creators who have covered this exact subject.

You can have NULL on a visible face, it just gives you the HOM effect. Good to know if you want to make motion blur in a map.

Yes, I have many map ideas. A little binder full of map plans, ideas and descriptions which I may or may not make into final maps.

However, part of level design is thinking up ideas for your maps. Go get a pencil and some paper and sit down and just sketch out some rough map layouts, doodle, look through your textures, and think for a while about map themes and objectives.

Myself, along with many others, visit Photography and Urban Exploration sites for inspiration. Some useful URLs are:

Those three should have you covered for the time being. You can always google more...

The only monsters that use Sentences are the Scientist, Barney, Hgrunts, and Vox. Monsters such as Zombies, Headcrabs and such automatically make noise.

In SP, monster_generics also happen to bleed when hit.

Use a cycler_sprite or monster_furniture, and surround them with clip brushes if necessary (monster_furniture is walk-throughable)

As for BS being the initials of Bshift, it says nothing! I really enjoyed Bshift, and you haven't completed the Black Mesa saga until you've played it. It had some nice levels and details, too, although was very short. Beat in 5 hours last weekend.

sentences.txt is the list of sentences that you can put in scripted sentences, just make sure to add a ! in front of the name in the scripted sentence properties; ie, ba_hello2 becomes !ba_hello2.

The sound files referenced to in sentences.txt are in the PAK file, under scientist, barney, etc.

Set Damage On Crush or something of that sort on the 'vehicle' then give the pins health less than the dmg on crush value. Make sure the pins are func breakables/pushables.

If you wish to have custom models in your map, I'd think about making them, teh HIT, and i'd assume the AOW ones as well, are intended as replacements for personal usage and not to distribute with maps...although if you talked with the creators and discussed their usage, that could change.

Nope. They add to your entity count and can create lag if enough are used (More detail for the engine to draw! Yay!). So they can be good in bland areas, but don't go overboard.

Search the forums and tuts for scripted_sentences. Hgrunts and VOX are the only two that have a library of words, scientists and barneys use the sentences in the PAK file that are already recorded.

What's an HW grunt? The Heavy Weapons one in the SDK with the chaingun who didn't make it into the game? Give the grunts HG (HandGrenades), as they are much less annoying than the GL (ARgrenades) option.
