It isn't for the compo so carry on what you guys are doing. I was just considering expanding the wad and resources for fun purposes.

As for the next compo idea, if there is one, I have no idea what kind of compo it will be.

About 10 days left guys.

I was thinking for fun and simply for the sake of further experimentation, I could add a bunch of lights to the colors.wad so people can play around with both color and light.

Better than how it looks when I run it. The whole thing chugs pretty bad, so Source2 is a no for me right now. That was to be expected anyway.

Don't blame Atom and I for giving you too much time. I know things get in the way and this is exactly why I gave a lot of time. Learn to manage your tasks and time better if you keep having problems, it's a good skill to have.

That would be cool chaos.

I'm actually trying to tie up my loose ends. Finishing the SMJ script is a big turning point in which I need to redirect my focus solely to that. Also, people are asking about the next Let's Build A Rocket in the messages of the SMJ facebook page, I consider that a loose end. I will make LBAR2 then focus my efforts on SMJ after all of the proofreading. I wish I wasn't the secretive type, I would describe some of the stuff I've made with full control over every aspect of a game rather than mapping and scripting for an already made game. I think good surprises are what makes a game memorable, why ruin that? I just need to focus on getting SMJ as well developed as possible. If I diversify too much, SMJ suffers. It's also difficult to show a lot of this stuff on a portfolio.

New gameplay from the modding community is ALWAYS out there. I mean, just look at some of the stuff I came up with. King of the Hill for HLDM, as well as Capture Points, Rat Hunt, even the Junk Machine for L4D2 that lets people build in a game that doesn't natively feature grabbing phys-objects, just to name a few.

DOTA came from a custom map IceFrog made for Warcraft III, which even then was based on Aeon of Strife from Starcraft. Now its a multi-million dollar sport.

I love that the new hammer is WYSIWYG. The build time doesn't seem too long considering what it would take to compile a massive and detailed map.

I said a while ago that around August 6th, I'd make a special announcement. It's the 8th and I have a bit of time over the weekend to do this so here goes.

Any of you who have seen Face Off or Jim Henson's Creature Shop knows how this works. Lyssa and I will give a little half-way help where you privately send me what you have so far and I will make some comments/suggestions about your work so you can improve it before finally entering. This will not be biased in any way and it's a great way to make sure your idea is fully realized or at least feeling like a completed idea.

Email your WIP's to windmasterben@gmail.com and say a few things about it so I know from you what's going on. You get one email in return from me with my response and feedback. This help, of course, is optional but it is recommended.

Hope to be talking to you guys soon!

I think people were losing interest before that. We included source to open up more potential and let more people join if they wanted to.

Also, the gap between the two engines, given the parameters of the compo, isn't very apparent unless you're using engine specific things.

That's the third version.

The second is the LB2 core with some stuff to play with, not a real map of sorts.

The first version is this here you may remember.

The current version has 341 entities involved and takes up 51% of the ent_data limit. From what I understand, source maps can go over 100% but it's an arbitrary limit that suggests a mapper shouldn't go over for the sake of performance standards. However most of the entities are point entities and aren't visual so the FPS stays nice, and the limit actually doesn't apply properly to what I've made. :/

Never mind the script thing, I figured it out.

Added a lot to the Junk Machine last night and today.
  • Scripts to handle picking up and placing props.
  • A more readable and organized equipment table.
  • Lots of price adjustments.
  • Gas cans give you 4 fuel instead of 3.
  • Added some modularity to the junk machine, meaning if it is separated from the fuel system, it is essentially in "Creative mode". Also it helps a bunch when creating new buildable objects.
  • Same old plug and play usability :)
TO DO:
Make the next installment of Let's Build a Rocket. I finally got an idea for it.

2 things:

1: I would love to see this reach an amazing number of games and engines.

2: Our prizes are not worth that much TBH. My Art prize has an ambiguous value and I don't know the worth of a Minecraft code.

For now, set it up as a non-official compo for Source/Goldsource.

Would this be considered a mini competition or a regular one over at GB?

Also, a lot of the stuff is verbatim, except some of the bullet point stuff and text colors. That's GB specific.

EDIT: TWHL'ers have had a head start. Maybe we should wait and have GB hold a seperate compo only to be fair. Also, our prizes aren't much and maybe when they host their own, they can have their own prize pool for their community. I wouldn't mind sharing the compo idea, put it out there.

It'd be fun to see what people all over the net would do for goldsource, or source now that we have the materials made for that.

Also I updated the materials so the renaming thing isn't necessary. Kind of a derpy thing to have to do that. OP needs updating too when someone can.

I opened my rats map in the sledge that I have, the previous to the current version, and it chugs a little in the 3D view like it incapable of keeping up. The framerate staggers from quick to slow in a weird way. I think I'll release the source file to the rats map today and that can be checked out. Hope it's just me. :/

Mini in the sense that not all aspects of mapping is judged and you can 1 month instead of 2. You also only have to worry about how your map looks, hell you don't even light it :>

Pro Tip

My eyes see brown as the most comfortable color to look at. I color my background a nice soft 60% brown then draw on top of that. Experiment to see what colors are pleasant to look at and use that. If you use white and draw with black, you can hurt your eyes.

Colors between 40% and 60% brightness range work best, but everyone is individual.

I draw upwards of 8-10 hours a every day and have been for many years. Trust me on this one.

That's a hard list to make with the bottom 5. There's things I hate ABOUT games but meh, here goes.

5: Kingdom Hearts 2
4: Kingdom Hearts 3
3: Final Fantasy X
2: Final Fantasy X2
1: Kingdom Hearts

Those are games, for me, where it is shorter to list some things I like about them than to list the things I hate.

Both FFX and KH had a few good game mechanics, but the story and gameplay overall were just grating on my nerves. Especially KH where the whole game made me feel like I was too old to play it, which is an awful feeling because I actually enjoy some stupid-assed games. FFX was just mind numbingly bad with its voice acting and the FFX felt pushy. I actually felt perturbed when a cutscene of story came in because all I wanted to do was everything else. X2 was... I don't even.

Solved the source fullbright problem.

The materials need to be converted to a UnlitGeneric shader type so they don't cast nor receive lighting.

This compo might be difficult break ice with. A good theme goes a LOOOONG way because it defines nearly everything. Whether it be sci-fi or modern, try mapping something you know. Re-imagine Zeeba_Pool, Gauss_God, or DE_Dust_Thunder in a color scheme that is outside your usual or the predictable.

Also if you want to create something non-themed and unique, you can try different Archetecture (they forgot to list Rococo) or my personal favorite, base the archetecture on the designs seen in furniture.
